I only use the Torque assault rifles for the splody goodness, the others never seem to work as well as pistols or SMGs, especially AR elementals with the 6% chance (gah!)

oh, that's true. I am definitely carrying around one or two Torgue ARs wherever I go. those puppies take care of any shield-carrying asshole or robot that needs a quick death. I also find them useful in FFYL--if you are close enough to the nearest target. I was having a whale of a time against those corrosive crystal spider rock critters later in the game, until I put a Torgue AR on them. Suddenly, no criticals and mostly absorbed became all criticals!

I also only keep Torgue rocket launchers...but I rarely use launchers, anyway. I need one of the fun ones, like The Hive.

I find that Torgue pistols suck donkey nuts. too hard to hit your target with their wonkey bullets.

I'm at a (sad) 73 hours already and I've found 3, I think. Found the maggie at level 11 or 12? and one of the gunarang variants--corrosive--on my Siren--that later level map with the 3 bandit clans (where you do the Brick mission to raise the flags)

...I'm pretty sure I have some other orange pistol. maybe I am counting the gunarang twice :hmm:

That's one thing I don't like about BL2 when compared to BL1: the scarcity of oranges, especially low level. I used to find low level oranges in the vendor there in the first area of BL1 somewhat regularly. I'd always find a Volcano sniper rifle, or maybe one of those Crux or Crucifix shotguns (not that I liked that particularly). Oranges seem unnecessarily scarce in BL2 IMO.

then in 2nd tier was kinetic reflection.

You know, with a class mod, it is possible to get +10 Kinectic Reflection, which gives you 100% damage reduction and 200% damage done on reflected shots. Right now, I have 90% damage reduction and 180% damage done. I was so happy when I found this thing.

I actually think Assault Rifles suck in this game compared to BL1. In BL1 assault rifles often had really high accuracy, like 92+, where in this game they're mostly in the 80's, especially if they're full autos. Do you not remember the Ogre from BL1? Or especially the Atlas Ogre; that thing was nuts! (I never got one, but I saw it in action) It seems most pistols in BL2 are equal to or better than Assault Rifles, usually rivaling their accuracy, with comparable damage, faster reload speeds, and the only thing they sometimes come up short in is magazine size.

I don't think I ever had an Ogre, but I do know what you mean by less accurate. The removal of scopes as a randomized gun part has definitely hurt assault rifles the most as they usually served as dual-purpose sniper rifles... well, for anyone that lacked The Invader. I actually had an assault rifle in Borderlands that would fire every shot while zoomed in, and it had high accuracy. It pretty much annihilated everything.

Anyway! The thing is that I don't really use assault rifles as wannabe sniper rifles anymore. I mostly use them for explosive effects as SMGs don't seem to have that many good elemental variants as they used to. I like the Torgue lobbing assault rifles as they're great on shielded targets (like the Nomads mentioned earlier). I have a great fire-based Eridium assault rifle that just tears up humanoids. Normal assault rifles are usually okay, but their biggest downfall is usually their reload time. The assault rifle might be slightly more powerful than a SMG, but the reload time is much worse.

EDIT:

Here's one of those fire-based Eridium assault rifles: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/558719694728813707/D796E315EAD358C13FB0970867A1509E836C8FC3/

Link is broken. Are you linking some of the Bullet Witch mods? That's the one I primarily use and yes--it is because of Kinetic reflection and because i like the acidy green color and absolute shock and wailing that you get with corroded enemies

Ah, now I see it. I will pay more attention to the trickster books. I like them--just never use them.

Is the Ogre the one that drops from that boss just outside of the roadway from the main outpost in the Knoxx DLC? ...the boss under the roadway that comes out of the garage?

I farmed that a couple of times and got a few decent drops. IIRC, that AR had the single mag that only emptied when you ran out of bullets. Not sure if was Ogre, though.

Sorta. He dropped his unique variant of an Assault Rifle each time you killed him, but there was a small chance that his weapon would spawn with the Ogre accessory (or whatever part made an AR an Ogre) which was arguably the best AR in the game. The Ogre was a random drop though, always an Orange weapon, and usually had lower accuracy to make up for the extreme explosive damage it provided. When you killed that boss you were talking about, and were lucky enough to get the Ogre accessory, the combination eliminated all the downsides typically found on the Ogre, and you had very high accuracy (usually 93+), a good sized clip (sometimes up to 55 IIRC), very high damage, good to ridiculous fire rate (12.5+ sometimes I believe) and the ridonkulous explosive damage inherent to all ogres. It was just a truly godly combo, especially when used with a Brick/Berserker Master Blaster (or Blaster Master?) build.

Most DLC's are 66% off today on Steam. If you don't have it yet, you should pick up the Krieg/Psycho DLC, it's currently $3.39. Awesome class, very powerful, and lots of fun too, especially once you get to lvl 31 and can get Release the Beast.

Does anyone play Borderlands 2 with SLI? If I leave PhysX turned on, I get this terrible black banding popping up all over my screen, but if I turn PhysX off, the game runs fine. Albeit, I'm not sure if 40% utilization on both GPUs is really all that adequate.

EDIT:

Yeah, it only seems to be an issue with Borderlands 2 as I tried out Arkham Asylum and I had no problems with PhysX. Although, Arkham Asylum barely pushes my GPUs (~40-50%) where Borderlands tends to do a bit more when PhysX is enabled (~70-85%).

What cards are you using? Can you turn off SLI for BL2 and use the second gpu for physx only?

I play with SLI, but I use a dedicated GTX 460 PhysX card and I've never seen that problem at all.

PhysX on high in BL2 is buggy though I will say.

I'm using two EVGA GTX 680s.

It's possible to turn SLI off, but the only issue then is having to do it whenever I decide to play Borderlands 2 and then turn it back on afterward. Unfortunately, it isn't as painless as 3D Vision, which you can just create icons on the desktop to toggle (or use a keyboard shortcut: CTRL+T).

I've never had any issues with it when just running on a single GTX 680. ...and I did consider buying another card just to handle PhysX. If only my one HTPC had HDMI out built into the motherboard, then I could steal its 660Ti! The only bad part is that I have a water-cooled system, so it's not as easy or cheap to just toss another GPU into it. It would also cause my PCI-E config to drop to 8x-4x-4x!

My brother just went from 1 GTX580 to 2 with no problems...

I have never had any issues with physx except in opportunity where I crashed with it on high but didn't crash once if i set it on low, everywhere else it works fine.

I ran a quick check remotely, and everything appeared fine. Although, the big difference was that I have to run in windowed mode rather than full screen. I'll have to try it again tonight and see if windowed mode will fix the problem.

Running in windowed mode has it's own problem though, as it lowers your frame rate.

Well, to add a little more explanation, I was running in windowed mode, because I performed that test remotely using Splashtop to connect to my desktop. Unlike Remote Desktop Protocol, Splashtop can display DirectX frames, but it cannot display them in full screen. So, I figured it would be interesting to see if I had the issues still. I did try the game out last night, and it was actually fine in full-screen mode. That's probably a good thing, because if I remember correctly, SLI isn't supported in windowed mode anyway.

Although, I'm not too sure what fixed it. My PC did BSOD on me sometime yesterday after I went to bed and prior to me running that remote test. It's done it once before (about a month prior) with the same issue on hal.dll (hardware abstraction layer -- not good!). Anyway, what that means is maybe the restart is what fixed it? Not sure, but I was hopping around on my Siren trying to head shot everything! :awe: At one point I hip killed (sniper rifle) a bunch of rakks that were flying at me and all you heard was their corpse-hitting-the-ground SFX for the next 10 seconds.

Hey Guys....Quick question on UVHM and DLC's.

We've completed all missions/sidemissions in TVHM. On the DLC's we've Completed Carnage/Sir Hammerlock and Pirate Booty in that order except for the bosses....Pirate Booty was so easy, we're level 55 that we're thinking of palying Tiny tina's DLC in UVHM.

If we switch to UVHM it will re-set the DLC's as well....right? I ask because we have not been able to kill Pete or the hammerlock boss. So if it re-sets in UVHM, we'll have to run through the entire DLC in UVHM to get back to them which would knida suck but I'm hoping we'll get some more lvl 55 weapons to make it easier....

Am I right in my assumption?

I am just starting the dlcs and my understandind is that you can switch between difficulties just like in the regular game. But if you play at lower difficulty you of course will get weaker gear for the final boss fights.

I like the psycho character, but so far the rest of the dlcs have not really impressed me that much. Just seem like a bunch of random quests strung together without any real coherency or the humor of the main game. Tiny Tina's dlc seems more original, but I am finding it really difficult on UVHM.

FYI, more new stuff coming:
http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/community/articles/1067/pax-australia-news-recap
PAX Australia was a blast! Among the major announcements at our Inside Gearbox Software panel was the revelation of the upcoming Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge for Borderlands 2 (which will raise the level cap to 72) and new downloadable packs for Borderlands 2 that will each add a new quest leading to a uniquely-themed boss fight starting this fall, along with a discussion of our recent Homeworld acquisition and plans plus this year's Community Day.

Interesting....I didn't even know you could do that in the regular game.

How does that work cause if we start UVHM, it wont put us where we are at in TVHM will it? It will start a new game minus the tutorial stuff, right?

Thanks

New code for 3 keys: 5B5J3-XKF5F-C3Z3B-BBBT3-JRHWR

I'm guessing that this is a limited use key like the other ones that he has posted.

Each playthrough has its own progression. If you quit out of TVHM in Sanctuary, you will load up there regardless of where you quit out of normal or UVHM at.
