That's what the health pickups are for. There's also many skills that boost your health during your action skill and such, and some shields give you health regen.

i'll have to make sure to allocate some of those skills then. way too hectic to run around opening boxes hoping a health vial will appear.

I found out that the crimson HQ lockers has a very high chance of getting eridium. So if you keep farm it, you can get a ton of eridium off that place. usually you average to close to one per run.

What's an effective way to kill the Knight Spiderants? Spiderants in general don't seem to turn around when shot nearly as easily as in the first game, and Knight Spiderants just take so little damage when shot from the front. I had to kill three at once, and it would have been hell if the AI didn't bug out on me (thank goodness!).

EDIT:

Alright, got it... just run right up to 'em, jump over 'em and shoot. They don't really do that much damage anyway.

I think this is one of the changes they made to promote co-op play. The actual crit area seems to be smaller too, or harder to hit.

Well, I am playing the Siren, and I think people are completely missing what makes this Siren so much weaker. They keep saying "Ohhh Phasewalk... Phasewalk!" Pfft, Phasewalk was barely necessary, and there's one reason why...

Mind Games

This talent made Lilith ridiculously powerful as simply shooting guys would slow their movement and fire rate down. Have a mob that you need to get behind? No problem... they moved so slowly that you could just run around them!

I miss Mind Games. I actually used the melee version until I could get Mind Games... I'd run up to things and smack them just to slow them down.

EDIT:

Hmm I was able to find this NPC finally... can't beat free weapons

Oh, and there's also usually an Eridium bar in Scooter's place in the lockers upstairs if you want to cheese Eridium.

I miss playing as Lilith a lot. Maya is good and all, but Lilith was so damn explosive, deadly, and fast paced. I loved her. Maybe Maya will be more so when I hit level cap, only lvl 20 right now.

If Gearbox made DLC to play the original Borderlands 1 characters, I'd buy it in an instant just for her.

IMHO:
Honestly Mind Games was nice and all, but really not all that vital.
It's far enough down in the skill tree that by the time you could use it there were usually a lot better (or more vital) skills to be putting points into.
Also, once you had decent gear, enemies died fast enough dazing them wasn't necessary.
I wouldn't say it's a bad skill or anything, but in all my sirens builds i never found it good enough to worry about until completely maxed at 69, and even then i still didn't really feel it was much help.
Obviously this is just my take on it, and different playstyles affect this, etc.

I'd give it time; you can't really judge the characters so early on.

But i know what you mean. Lilith was my favorite character by a huge margin. Even if purely for the ability to get around in a hurry (especially in those annoying spots you're forced to walk so far). She was perfect for my charge in headfirst and wreck massive havoc right in enemy's faces, elements pouring!
I already know i won't ever love the new four as much as i did Lilith, but that's not to say i won't still enjoy the new chars a ton.

When you first saw Lilith in BL2 fighting, I instantly felt bad I couldn't play as her again, just seeing her phasewalk all over blowing the crap out of everything, sigh. She was the only character I liked in Borderlands, didn't care for any of the others and I tried them all a fair amount. But she was just spectacular, really one of my fav classes of a character in general in games.

Yeah, I found Lilith earlier tonight and it was such a nice reunion! :'(

I also equipped this incendiary pistol to do the totem challenge in there, and it turns out that it's a pretty damn nice gun! It's nothing special (I'll grab a screenshot later), but it could surely make quick work of elites. Setting them on fire certainly helped with that part.

For me, Mind Games was an ability that allowed Lilith to make a strong enemy significantly weaker. If you were over-leveling content or fighting a huge boss, it might not seem as useful. Consider it in things like the arena fights... especially when the enemies would level with you. As I mentioned, it also helped you move around some enemies tactically.

Also, the left-most tree is one of the trees with some of the powerful talents in it. It didn't matter much at 69 though since you could almost get every good talent.

I have been playing as the Salvador, decided to give Zero a try. Holy crap I must be playing him totally wrong cause he is stinking. Is melee not the way to go for him?

So, a friend told me to buy, and play this at work tonight. He knows I am moving next week, and have a baby coming next month. I told him I was not sure of my finances with moving and the upcoming baby. Or if I will even get time to play or not in the near future.

I had to stay late at work tonight (I am the head chef/kitchen manager, needed to wait on a crew to clean the exhaust system) so I got home 4 hours later than my friend. Like always I jump on to the computer and check e-mails and such.

I have a new e-mail
You've received a gift copy of the game Borderlands 2 on Steam

What a nice guy! He bought me the game before I got home. I hope I can find time to play soon!

Geez...I just realized I used my key to open the chest the first time I arrived in Sanctuary, and didnt even grab a gun. I just opened it, looked inside, and then kept on going.

I'm getting pretty awful "lag spikes" or stutters today. The day after release everything was fine, but today the game updated and it's darn near unplayable. Normally I would think it was the new samsung ssd, but the game was totally fine before it auto patched today.

Anyone else getting performance issues?

edit: the game just crashed to desktop. Hmm...

Same.

Personally... when he first killed me I just stayed on that upper level you respawn at and shot at him. He came close and I could just spam him without issue. It was cheap but it worked.

Yea, that is what I did too. Also, dont bother wasting ammo when he is doing his fire thing. Seems he is almost invulnerable then. But I just stayed out of range until he was not doing the fire thing, moved in and shot a few times, then moved back. Just keep doing this over and over. Agreed, kind of cheap, but it worked.

Melee at the end of deception for the 600% bonus would be the only really viable option (atleast early on). Pretty certain that he is not ment to be a Brick.

That said, my first character was Zero got him ~lvl 12 and just wasnt loving deception. I kinda liked tossing it out so I could get a second to line up a critical shot on a tough enemy with my sniper rifle but more often then not my damn decoy would be dancing in my line of sight. I also found later that using deception then face shooting an boss with a powerful shotgun (especially the ones that can only fire 1-2 times before reloading) worked wonderfully.

Started a salvador lastnight and only just unlocked gunzerking and after only using it half a dozen times it already seemed a bit more enjoyable than deception.

Still miss Lilith...

I read your whole post and I have a few recommendations:

1. Make sure you are going for level appropriate quests. It will tell you the quest level in the quest info before you accept it. An enemy that is even 1 level above you will be very difficult to kill, 2 levels or more is really frustrating. It sounds like you are a pretty good FPS player so you may have progressed faster than was intended.

2. Check the deal of the day in the gun vending machines every time you pass one. That is where I have gotten most of my good weapons.

Well, I have played a lot of FPS, but I would not say I am really that good. I am older now and the vision and reflexes are not what they used to be. My 15 year old grandson of course routinely can destroy me head to head!!

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I played a lot of the first game, so I am aware of the level thing. I have scoped weapons for every class now, so I am getting along a bit better. I guess I a comparing to the first game, which I farmed incessantly and had excellent weapons. I still havent gotten any really good loot though, except what I had to buy. In the first game, I farmed New Haven before they nerfed it with the patch, and the secret area in the spider ant place and got some really great stuff.

am I missing something, or is there no way to heal while in combat?

It is frustrating to me that you cannot pick up the health "potion" things when you are at full health and find them.

I played a siren before, and in the old build you could heal while being invisible in phase walk. Awesome. The new siren has some nice powers but nothing close to this.

I also would kill for an ammo regeneration mod. I am assuming later in the game some guns will have this. There still does not seem to be enough ammo drops, or they are for the wrong type of gun and cant be used. I dont remember this being such a problem in the first game.

Yeah ammo is a real issue, though to be fair, it was also an issue with fast firing guns in the original too.

I've had way less time to play than i'd like, so i only have a level 12 Maya and level 8 Salvadore.

I wasn't paying close attention and opening the golden key chest the instant i got to Sanctuary, and i've been using one of the SMGs i got from it a lot, but it goes thru ammo so fast i am constantly running out.

Salvadore's gunzerking is presently good for running out of ammo, that's about all :<
Hoping i'll start to like him more a bit later on.

I wont say that ammo is an issue for me. Yeah you have to be mindfull (dont go spray and pray crazy) and its likely you can empty out of your favorite weapons ammo type semi/frequently but if you are carrying around 1 of each weapon class you shouldn't ever be completely out of ammo if you are atleast casually opening bins\chests\etc.

So far I kinda like the bit of a crunch becasue it adds a bit of strategy to the game, if I had 3000 sniper rounds with Id likely never use anything other than my rifle. Now I have to look at an encounter and decide if I should switch to my explosive shotgun or my SMG to save a dozen sniper rounds that I may need later.

I will however completely agree on storage space, I hate throwing away loot becasue Im full and I equally hate having to stop my progression to double back to sell. You should get more bang for the eridium than you get on backback upgrades.

It took me 3 times, as I like to bum rush people and it wouldnt work with my config....always a hit or two away from getting him. Then I went old school and ran circles around the center, so that he was always opposite. Then just pot shotted him to death. He did seem kinda tough for a first boss, but I dont pay attention to my loadout vs what the enemy is. Good to know I wasnt the only one having a wtf moment.

Maybe use a sniper rifle and just keep your distance?

Yeah, I did that once, got him pretty low. I will try again, and not sure why I didn't think to use a shield that is resistant to fire.. thanks to the above poster.

Also, do you have to wait to do her trick.. ? I hit W, my assigned key and nothing happens.

Ammo has certainly been a constraining factor for me since I don't have any ammo regeneration (through class mods or talents), but I've never gone Out of Ammo on any weapons so far. For the most part, the game is pretty good about giving you ammo, and if I end up spending a lot of ammo in an area that's close to a shop, I just go back and refill. I had this Hyperion sniper rifle that was definitely better than my older Jakobs, but the problem is that it had this terrible sway when you first looked down the scope. I ended up wasting quite a bit of ammo because of that sway. :|

I have noticed that unlike the first game, I tend to buy more items from the shop. I bought a shield from there that has high capacity, fast recharge, and reduces my health by a small amount. I think it's interesting to see trade-offs like that since the first game provided high capacity shields, but they always had terrible recharging. I also bought a Jakobs sniper rifle to replace that Hyperion one from a vendor.

EDIT:

I didn't think that Flynt was that hard. What was annoying is that I couldn't seem to locate his crit spot, but I did hit it a few times with him in Phaselock. All you do is run when he jumps at you and keep him at range. Also, make sure to kill the burning psychos before they get close to you.

Oh, and if you aren't used to WoW raiding, then this advice helps... don't stand in the fire!

Yeah phasewalk was amazing for the run speed alone in BL1. I dont think any of the new classes have a run speed boost, do they? You end up having to run around a whole lot, it sure would be nice to have that boost.

Also, anyone found a shield that regens health? Those were the bomb in BL1

Ok, just continued the game. Last night I quit and saved from Flynt after dying. Now I am 15 minutes prior to that way at the beginning and have to fight my way back. I know it saved several times on the way, I saw the little icon. How annoying to have to waste all this time to get back to him.
