They've made it official that it's Boarderlands 3. The game will be released on Sept 13th.

Not much info, but here's the teaser. Seems more info will come out tomorrow

Also per Reddit there's a hidden SHiFT code

Mask Teaser Hidden SHiFT Code!

March 27, 2019

Thank you for being excited enough to dissect the new bandit mask with the grace of Dr. Zed! As a reward, you have been granted Salvador's Community Day skin and 5 Golden Keys! There are more skins to be granted, so good luck out there, Vault Hunter!

a shift code....that for BL2?

anyway....thinking about it having a dedicated title like that, with all of those figures shown--I recognize the original vault dwellers, but it also looks like a lot of new ones? I'm wondering if this is really going to be the MMO that people had been hinting at for so long.....I'm not totally against that if it is done well, but it wouldn't have the same flavor as the others, that's for sure (a hub system with generated map instances for solo play or teams only, would be fine, I think).

just crossing my fingers that it isn't Fallout76 in a Borderlands skin. Of course, if it is just like the previous 3 Borderlands games, would anyone really complain? I wouldn't.

I'm excited anyway. This and Cyberpunk are the only upcoming titles that I care about.

Borderlands 4? Please let it be so!

technically, it would be BL3 because TPS = BL 1.5

..I also just realized that "Mask of Mayhem" is just what they are calling this teaser, and not the title of the game. I am such a dummy.

From what I have read there seems to be strong possibility it will be a Epic Store exclusive. Maybe we will find out tomorrow.

I would not mind Borderlands MMO, but as a spin-off game. Wouldn't like the story continuation from previous games on an MMO.

I wish I could like these games, the world and characters seem so interesting, but I can't get past the gameplay.

I've a few friends that feel the same way and don't like the games. I think the overall package is quite charming and the first game was one of the very first shooter looters that became a cult classic of sorts. I remember arguing with a buddy of mine who claimed to love shooters but I couldn't accept that he didn't care for teaming up with 3 others and shooting the crap out of everything and scoffing up hundreds of guns lol. It's a bit immature and cartoonish, sure, but I think that's half the fun.

According to the FB posting, this one will take everyone across 'the worlds' of Borderlands so it's not just going to be on Pandora.

kinda what was expected with the way BL2 ended and all the vaults popping up on all the planets....does kinda lend itself to a hub-based MMO if they do it right.

A hub-based MMO across multiple planets scenario is my worst possible nightmare for BL3. I don't want to end up with a Borderlands with the game structure of something like The Old Republic. I especially don't want to see 50 Mayas and 35 Liliths running around doing the exact same quests while I have to wait until interactible quest objects spawn back to progress the story because it'd be an online MMO. If that's what it is and cannot be played Solo I'll be out in a flash.

The trailer, however, doesn't seem to point at that sort of game. It seems more 'directed', story-based and even though environments look rather expensive in some of the scenes there's a sense of linearity to it that I kinda recognize from BL2. It's perhaps too early though, but purely based on the trailer I think that they've largely kept the formula pretty much the same but just expended on it (BL2, but on steroids). I wouldn't mind exploring more than one planet. I just don't want to do it in an always-online MMO setting with dozens of people running around killing MY stuff.

when I say Hub, I mean personal map instances (for individuals or team) for explorable maps, with common capital cities or whatever; so, like a hub system. Nothing like The Old Republic and exactly like GW1. ...Not what I want it to be. But if IT IS an MMO, that's the only way that I would like it, preventing exactly what you and I would dread to see.

My main hope is that they fix the guns and make the gear grind better. Stock BL2 guns got pretty boring after awhile. Once you moved on to the higher difficulties, if it wasn't a legendary, Moxxi weapon, or a quest reward gun/item, for the most part it wasn't worth using.

Is this the end of the world as we know it?I really thought so when i just stumbled into the trailer then i realized something. Half life 3 would be when its basically the end of the world but a BL3 oh yeah its not that far behind.First dang game i have seen this entire year i have been hyped for.

dang, just realized that it's/will have been...7? years since TPS when this releases. crazy.

Agree with fixing the loot system and easing the grind. My main gripe with BL2 is that gearing was completely legendary dependent--there were maybe a handful of named, non-legendary guns that were any good, but no real random drop types.

I hope they go back to the BL1 gun part-generating system, which actually allowed for vastly more guns than BL2 or TPS did, and also allowed for really good purple and even blue drops. Doubt that will happen, though.

.

It's been 10 years since BL1. seven years since BL2, and five years since TPS. If you include the final episode of the tales games/Claptrap dlc for TPS, then its been 4 years since we had any new borderlands related video game content. Tales is canon as far as characters and the continuing story goes, so that's why I included it.

BL1 released in October 2009

BL2 released September 18th 2012

TPS released October 14th 2014. Claptrap dlc released in March 2015

Tales from the Borderlands also released in late 2014, and finished up in October 2015

Borderlands 2 VR released last Christmas I believe, but there is nothing new in it, just a different way to experience old content.

Well after 2,000+ hours into BL2 and 1,500+ in BL1, (not even going to recognize TPS...), I've waited long enough for the next installment, but if they go down the MMO path, it looks like I'll be stuck replaying BL1 and 2 forever.

so far, that trailer doesn't really show any tell-tale MMO signs. ...it really just looks like BL1/2 with new classes and maps and stuff....I mean, sounds perfect. We shall see.

What's the deal with TPS? ....I get some of the complaints, but it is still pretty damn fun. I honestly think it has a larger number of fun, balanced classes compared to the first two (though none of them are my favorite of the series. Nisha is awesome, though).

That's something that has been bothering me. The trailer is lacking in specific's which I think is a bit odd. Unlike other borderlands game trailers, this is mostly action shots with some location scene's thrown in. No new character names are shown, nor are their abilities showcased (you can kinda figure them out but still..), no skill tree's are shown, no features are announced, you don't see any inventory or user interface shot's, etc

I don't know if this was done intentionally? The trailer certainly looks cool, but Borderlands 3 is a big game for gearbox, so I was expecting something more...official? Some of that stuff has already been leaked, so maybe that's why?

All I can tell from this is that it looks like other borderlands games, just with higher resolution textures/details, there are quite a few new vehicles, we are going to be visiting multiple worlds, and there are a lot of bad ass looking guns.

This was just the reveal trailer. I'm sure we'll learn more on April 3rd.

This was also announced, but I'm not sure who hasn't played the others to death. I'm getting really jaded towards people milking remakes like they are. Do we really need yet another version of it?

The very first boss was a blatant rip-off from BL2. After it was discussed (in my thread on the Gearbox forums), a few community managers for 2K said it was a homage to Borderlands 2 and they wanted to give the fans something to relate to. I could accept that if I hadn't progressed with the game and saw that most of the rest was just a lazy copy/paste from the first two games. They added the moon physics and ice elemental which were fun for a few minutes, but after a while they just felt gimmicky. I think my biggest complaint (other than the lazy Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V) was the classes to choose from felt too rounded. One of the community managers did touch on that and say they didn't want to restrict anyone to any class just because of their playstyle. They wanted all classes to be more or less viable for sniping, melee, tank, etc. which I think felt lazier than anything else. I put a solid 400 hours in the game and played through with most classes, but it just didn't feel like Borderlands to me.

it's just a teaser so probably shouldn't expect gameplay and details until a few months to release, or later. I seem to recall for previous BL games, skill trees were only revealed somewhat close to release...I think.

but we do know some things: 4 new vault hunters/classes, with previous vault hunters acting as NPCs, as they do--you even see the Baroness, I believe....one can assume that, outside of Athena, at least, the surviving TPS vaulthunters are villain NPCs? (Wilhelm, Nisha, and Jack's clone were killed in BL2).

THere is a Siren, and lots of guns. That's all I care about, tbh. ...as long as the guns are more like BL1 and less like BL2/TPS. not sure about that Siren ability though...looks like it might be mele focused somehow? I don't like mele in these games.
