Is there a separation between the single and multiplayer games? Can you level your character solo and then jump into a multiplayer game (or invite people into yours)? Also, is there local split-screen multiplayer? I'll probably wind up picking this up at some point, but if it supports gameplay for my XBox-less neighbor/drinking buddy, it'll be sooner rather than later.

I read that it is seamless multiplay, you can join in at any point with other plays I think

haven't played yet though, sure one of the other guys will set the record straight

i also read about the seamless multiplayer but last night i couldnt figure out how to make that seamless work..... if anyone can go more into that i would like to know.

also for sharing in coop everyone needs to be in the same zone.

If you hit 'start' while playing single player, I believe you can invite friends into the game. That's as seamless as you'll get. But I could be wrong, and you might still have to start in multiplayer to PLAY multiplayer... you just get to use the same character if you choose to.

Yes there's splitscreen and yes you get to use the same character for single AND multiplayer.

And to answer the question on shared ammo and stuff... When you pick up ammo or money or kill something, everybody in your party gets the same full amount. If you picked up $50, everybody gets $50.

I don't remember the ammo being shared, but the money was shared.

Huh, I thought it was. Guess I wasn't paying that much attention

yeah we had a party going last night. someone of the enemies are beast. we ran into this one lvl 10 (we were around 6 or 7) the one guy just dominated all 4 of us. we all died like 4 times.. it was funny.

I went back and played single player for a bit last night, got to level 11. That guy we killed is actually for a later mission and he wasted me several times. Ended up sniping him to death.

I agree it was a slow start, but I got the first vehicle and opened up the world a little bit, the game just got really damn cool.

add my gamertag to the list "blortov".

Made it to lvl 11 (soldier) in singleplayer, it started out a little slow but then got progressively more awesome by the mission. I'm working down the "support" tree for skills so hopefully I'll pair up well with anyone. Might be able to play for a bit tonight, feel free to hit me up.

Well, reading this thread made me go out today to try and rent it from Blockbuster. Especially since the camping trip for this weekend looks to be off because my kids are sick. BB didn't have any copies in though. And when I say they didn't have any copies, I mean they didn't even have an empty box. They haven't gotten it in yet. I'll try again tomorrow.

Gearbox dev Randy Pitchford tweeted that Borderlands is selling out. Good news for them if true. Don't know if it is an indication of huge demand or just a small first print, but good news none the less.

17 hours doesn't seem right. Guy says it takes him 15 minutes a quest... but I thought there was 160 quests in the game. That would mean 40 hours.

Okay now that some people are picking this up, how does it truly fair to Fallout 3? How are the graphics? Are the quests ultra boring or not too bad?

This game shouldn't be compared with Fallout 3. Someone else said that Fallout 3 is an RPG with some shooter mechanics. Borderlands is a Shooter with diablo-style rpg elements.

Apples and oranges. Quests are mostly like the WoW fetch ones. This game is about gunplay and finding bigger, better guns. RPG/Questing is not really a focus at all so if that's your gig, you'll probably be disappointed.

Matchmaking issues being reported in the PS3 version.

Gearbox responds

Update on the North American PS3 Friends Interface issue:

We've identified the problem and are working on a fix.
Believe it or not, the friends feature was heavily tested by Gearbox and 2K. However, this particular issue we found could have never manifested itself in our or 2K's test environments.

We?ll find out very soon if the issue exists for the PS3 International versions of the Borderlands. If it does, we?ll hopefully have a fix implemented before it affects those customers.

We are doing everything we can to get this problem addressed as quickly as possible. Thanks to everybody who provided us with tons of information.

my problem is that i don't understand what the purpose of finding loot is. with no story to progress and no interesting questing, what does it matter if you find a better gun?

would serious sam with random loot drops be funner? it doesn't strike me as something that would be.

not flaming the game, like i said earlier, i just don't get it.

I think they purposefully didn't ship a lot of copies to build some buzz about it selling out. This seems to be a fairly under the radar game for a lot of people, and with the video posted for this in the PC forum where they make fun of the mainstream/casual gamer, I think its a marketing ploy. I'm not saying its bad, as they're going up against some heavyweights (Halo, Call of Duty) so they're going to need all they can get. Then again, maybe this really is a game meant for the "real" gamers and sales aren't the focus.

I've got quite a bit of playtime in the game already. (I've had some unplanned time off) Started with the berserker Tuesday night with some friends and got to lv13. But unfortunately when we hit around lv7 everything stopped attacking us. So I started over yesterday as the Siren and I'm enjoying it more than the berserker. It's a bit more unique and your main focus is elemental weapons which are really fun to use. Nothing like setting baddies on fire!
Co-op is excellent. Love playing with my friends but when I started my new character in single player I felt like a missed a lot. The game seems much easier when you play by yourself and adding just one more player to the mix really changes the dynamic. Enemies are more difficult and the loot is better which can be a bit of a drawback. I found a few nice weapons while playing by myself but when my friend joined in drops were significantly better. Kinda sucks you cant get the good stuff playing solo as well.
Reached lv20 last nite and decided to shut it off. Level grinding is non-existent so far. The levels seem to breeze by while your playing.
There is a huge variety in the weapons. Is there a bazillion? No. But so far I dont feel like I'm not seeing anything new. Found a shotgun last night and part of the description was "Holy crap, it shoots rockets".
As for comparing it to Fallout 3 I'd say they are nothing alike. You could argue the setting is similar but it feels completely different.

I think you just have to be a loot whore (which I am). Think about the most famous example with the Diablo games. Sure, they have a OK story with some cool cut scenes, but do most people really care? Certainly not after the first time. No one's thinking about the story while they put on all their magic find gear and do 50 consecutive Meph and Baal runs. There's just a certain addictiveness to grinding for better gear and it has little or nothing to do with the story. Some people don't get it, and that's fine, but others love it.

This game is not related in anyway to Fallout 3. Different genre, different game concepts, different atmosphere, different story... not even close. So don't buy this game thinking it is remotely similar.

I played today and got up to lvl 23 with my berserker. The game is pretty solid although the screnery can get boring.

In an interview with Joystiq, Gearbox explains that the supply problems are regional. PS3 supply problems on the West Coast and 360 shortages on the east coast. They're working on reallocating units and "working with production and distribution at ramping up to catch up with demand," adding that fresh copies should hit "as early as Thursday or Friday."
