Heard on radio that my local Borders is one of those closing. Wondering if that means that they'll discount their stock of if it'll just be shipped to another store.

I go to borders a lot, I have 3 of them all about the same distance from where I live. I only go there when I get coupons in my email from them. With the coupons they are as cheaper or cheaper then amazon for most books I think I've looked at (mainly Warhammer 40K).

Two of the ones close to me, anytime I go to them they are packed, but the 1 other I'm pretty sure is considered an under performer.

Edit: SOB, just saw the closing list, the one store I thought they would close is, but one of the others is too damnit, the one I go to the most. The last one while just as close as the other 2 were was always a pain in the ass to go too cause it is an outdoor mall type of area so traffic is always heavy.

Nice, looks like both of mine dodged the bullet. Actually, I'd be ok if the one closest to me closed down. It's in a mall and *tiny* compared to the other one in town.

Store liquidation is being handled by Hilco Group, a third party liquidation service. Which means it'll likely be the standard overpriced liquidation sale, for the most part.

They couldn't change with the times. A good business can do that. They obviously weren't as good as their competition.

None of the ones I go to are closing so I'm happy for now. I like looking through their bargain book area. Just about all liquidation sales aren't very good. The idiots buying stuff at above MSRP - 10% clear all the good stuff out long before it gets discounted enough to be a good deal.

Too many people go into Borders, hang around, drink coffee, listen to their iPod and don't buy anything. No wonder they are going under.

I love doing that! Thank god mine isn't closing. Where else can you go and read books for free in a nice quiet environment? I dare you to name a place like that.

I didn't like Borders that much. The ones I've been to carried way too much other crap in addition to books. I'd rather have a wider selection of books and less movies, music, etc.

I love the one near me. It has great selection of books. That one isn't closing, thank goodness. The crappy one in an outdoor mall is.
Get this, went to look at the fiction novels at the crappy store. There were none!!! Just one or two cases with the latest best sellers. I was hoping to get a couple Clive Cussler books before a business trip, and I circled around forever to make sure I didn't miss it.

borders has higher quality books than barnes and noble, more academic titles, so i like browsing there more. but they are so expensive it rarely makes sense to buy there.

almost all the borders in the sf bay area are going to be closed. i usually go to the san ramon one near my house or the union square one near my condo and they are definitely both closing. bummer

The one we have here had the worst store hours. B&N is open till 10 every day. I think I went to the Borders once at 8:30 on a week night and it was closed. Wtf?

Wow, I'm pretty surprised the one at Friendship Heights in DC is closing. When I worked up there, that location was always pretty busy.

And the Tysons Corner location. WTF. If you can't be successful there, you should just go out of business.
