Is it a "real" 40% off, or just 40% off of MSRP?
I remember Circuit City pulling that stunt by jacking prices up to MSRP before "discounting" them. The prices at their going out of business sales for the first two weeks were higher then before the sale began.
Borders put's local bookstores out of business
Amazon's Kindle puts Borders out of business
Seems fair.
Who's going to put Amazon out of business?
I've decided that most people don't know the prices of things they buy. When Borders closed a bunch of stores earlier in the year people were POURING in there to get 20% off. You could do better than that (at Borders) ANY day of the week with Borders Rewards.
It was just stupid.
Circuit City liquidation was handled by a company that does liquidations and your right if you didnt know your prices the 40%off wasn't a deal at all. I guess it all depends on whos handling the 40% off. If its Borders then the 40% off could be good but if its some brokerage then its like those furniture places that have people holding 40% off signs on the street to trick you to thinking your getting a deal.
Either way bring your smartphone and price compare with Amazon or some other place to be sure its a good deal.
Wait so does this mean every single Borders is now closing up shop? I know they closed a bunch of their locations earlier, but there's one still up near my parents' house...
Liquidations are usually only good for the liquidators, hard to imagine this one will be any different. All prices go to MSRP or more, then "up to" discounts.
The "HOT" deal for books is called a public library. Ours has new releases for a buck, and the rest free.
Yes every single borders is closing shop. The judge approved the liquidation of the Borders chain yesterday, and the paperwork asking the judge for a liquidation was last week. Borders has moved pass restructuring and is now closing shop.
You have to pay to get books from your library...?
My mother went there yesterday or day before. Said checkout line was an hour long, books were only 10% off, magazines were 40%
Most of our local libraries have a set of shelves up front with new releases which they charge a buck for a week. There are also small charges like 25 cents to reserve a book from another branch etc. The amount is trivial and it goes back into buying more books.
This type of small charge is used to moderate use.
