Deus Ex is played SOLELY from the first person perspective. There are no 3rd person elements. Neither game is from a "JRPG" maker, I'm not sure where you're coming from there.
Deus Ex is essentially a first person shooter with depth, story, branching dialogue and story arc on par with most modern RPGs, but it plays nothing like KotOR at all. They share RPG elements, and heavily story-driven gameplay, but thats about it.
Screen caps won't tell you much of anything. Watch some videos:

As far as the golden age of games, I agree. I think one of the reasons Deus Ex is held aloft as one of the pinnacles of PC game design by so many gamers is that it pretty much exemplifies what made games great. It gave you real freedom, real choice, nothing was dumbed down or shoved down your throat or oversimplified. Game designers actually seemed to RESPECT the gamers, and not water everything down. They knew they were primarily designing a game for an adult, mature audience, and didn't have to take into consideration whether they were going to alienate the 13 year old "Call of Duty" audience by making a "big person" game.
The simplification and dumbing-down of games today is easily the single biggest reason I'm losing interest in the hobby altogether.
