Just finished Crysis 2. Horrible.

DA2 is shit.

The only game I'm having fun playing is Deus Ex.

I don't care what you recommend as long as it's not crap.

Edit: Whatever game you're recommending rate it 1-10.

Mafia II is a good quick romp. Shouldn't take you that long to finish.

Batman is on sale right now. Combat gets repetitive but yet again it's a good fun short game.

Like strategy?

Shogun 2 Total War is easily one of the best of the series, and one of the best strategy experiences out there right now.

You owe it to yourself to get Batman Arkham Asylum. On sale for $7.50, great game for that price. The only reason not to get it is if you really, really hate third person action games.

I give Batman AA a 9 myself and I would recommend it. The combat only gets repetitive if you don't try and be inventive. It's really not hard to chain together some wicked combos with a bit of effort. Plus I love scheming ways to take out patrolling henchmen

I'm actually replaying through KotOR, after the agonizing trial of getting this super buggy software to work on a new setup...but man; such a great game.

Looks totally dated, and yes--very unfinished (character pathing is HORRIBLE, combat is clunky and obnoxious, bugs bugs bugs bugs) but man....still such a great game. hehe.

I was thinking this b/c OP mentioned Deus Ex, which I know nothing about, but seems a bit like KotOR to me. I never played KotOR II, so I imagine that I'll finally be picking that up on steam after I run through this.

You know nothing about Deus Ex? Wow.

...and it's really nothing like KotOR...at all...other than you could say they both are heavily story driven, that's about it.

yeah, I bypassed it, somehow.

form the caps I've seen, it looks to be very similar in style (quality of graphics, anyway), and being an 3rdP/FPS?/RPG from the biggest JRPG developer out there, I assume that it resides somewhere in that golden time when action met real RPG elements--now forever forgotten.

that's what I like about KotOR, but again..the combat can be so damn frustrating; withstanding the fact that your teammates can be utter idiots all the time--agroing everything on scree, blaster man running up in to the face of something to pew pew away, subsequently die from blade to the body cavity. man....we complain today about games getting released too soon.

hehe.

Deus Ex is played SOLELY from the first person perspective. There are no 3rd person elements. Neither game is from a "JRPG" maker, I'm not sure where you're coming from there.

Deus Ex is essentially a first person shooter with depth, story, branching dialogue and story arc on par with most modern RPGs, but it plays nothing like KotOR at all. They share RPG elements, and heavily story-driven gameplay, but thats about it.

Screen caps won't tell you much of anything. Watch some videos:

As far as the golden age of games, I agree. I think one of the reasons Deus Ex is held aloft as one of the pinnacles of PC game design by so many gamers is that it pretty much exemplifies what made games great. It gave you real freedom, real choice, nothing was dumbed down or shoved down your throat or oversimplified. Game designers actually seemed to RESPECT the gamers, and not water everything down. They knew they were primarily designing a game for an adult, mature audience, and didn't have to take into consideration whether they were going to alienate the 13 year old "Call of Duty" audience by making a "big person" game.
The simplification and dumbing-down of games today is easily the single biggest reason I'm losing interest in the hobby altogether.

There is a bit too much nostalgia going on here. Remember that when Deus Ex first came out the performance of the game for non 3dfx cards was appalling. The frequent need for patches after release doesn't sound like the developers have ever respected their customers at all.

It usually goes on sale as part of the Square/Enix sales at steam--and it is part of the Square/Enix complete package.

...that's where I'm going with on that.

Don't know what that has to do with initial development, but all that I know is that they are clearly involved now, somehow. :\

But I'll certainly give it a shot if it shows up for maybe 5 bucks.

steam has made me one cheap bastard.
