Hey so if anyone has any interest or time or is just plain bored come download and test our little game project. This was made in the last 3 months by myself and 4 other kids in my class. This isn't for a homework assignment or anything, I just figured I would see if I could get some input feedback from anyone wanting to test it out.

It is just a simple Directx racing game where you race against the clock not other opponents, not very long or in depth but we have had fun with it. Need windows XP, and directx 9.0c or later to run it but other than that it should work just fine.

If you are interested just hit the link to get the installer (less than 60MB) and test it out. Directions are in the read me.

This is not the final version so there may be bugs etc and if so feel free to post them here or email, so we can fix them.

The installer can be found.
here

And feel free to email, suggestions, comments, rants, bugs, hate, criticism etc to RIDERQA@gmail.com

thanks to anyone who tries it out.

meh well you can trust it if you want but considering I've been a member here for a long time It's not likely that I would post a malicious exe on the only forum I ever post on.

I had forgotten how paranoid people were.

It was kind of annoying to have the game slowed down everytime I went over a jump. Other than that it was pretty good.

Don't press the space bar lol...

For some reason even though it says I'm getting 500fps, I'm getting abot 20. Running Vista 64.
I don't know what it was doing when I first opened it, was it loading or something? It sat at the controls screen for a while. Was about to ctrl+alt+delete it and then the menu popped up.

Controls really need refining, camera cold use work too. It's not intuitively obvious what the goal of the game is, I guess to get a high score?

Can't imagine how much work it was to get this to work, run, etc. Keep it up!

Ack, I can't get used to WSAD for directional control.
Is there any way to reassign those keys?

And remove the delay when moving between the different menu options.

- Game doesn't seem to tolerate using the Windows key.
- Determining the exact direction the character will be facing after releasing A or D is difficult.

...and apparently I have some trouble simply obeying the arrow icons that appear on the screen, especially when the character view is flipped over, such that their left is facing the right of the screen. I see the "Left" arrow and then press right, because that's the direction their left is facing.
I doubt that this would be a common problem though.

No significant bugs in the time I played it, but it is tough getting acclimated to having my left hand do the steering; I've never used those keys for directional control in a game.

yea we don't have any actual support for Vista so im surprised it even ran. And yea the loading issue is something we have since fixed, it was an issue loading sound effects or some such. Also the goal is to get a high score while beating the timer before the city is destroyed, guess we need to make that clearer. and the high score table is not implemented yet so i can see how this would be confusing.

Thanx, the delay between menus can be skipped by hitting the spacebar, we are still putting graphical display for that option into the menus, and the controls have been constantly revised so any feedback there is helpful. And right now there is no way to reassign the keys, we can look into it though.

thanks to all of you who have given it a shot and given us some feedback. all the feedback is useful.

Need to be able to select different display resolutions.
Need to somehow add a better sense of speed. Maybe actually increase the track length and increase the speed the character moves at so that it has roughly the same time to completion?
Whenever the slowdowns happen for the quicktime events doesn't that negate any speed boost advantage? I ask because I ran out of time in one playthrough while I was creeping through a series of button presses that felt like they were actually holding me up rather than boosting me toward the finish.

Pretty awesome to have done that yourself as well. Works perfectly on my Vista 32bit system.

yea the display resolution is something that we are kinda limited on due to the quality/resolution of our art assets and we are using our own rendering engine/system and it is not all that optimized (due to realizing Maya is a horrible level editor and our graphics guru being stuck adjusting models).

and the sense of speed, oh how i wish we could make it feel faster/make the level bigger, but we are again limited by our artist. He only had a limited time to create the assets etc so we had to work with what we got. Ideally for the speed we originally intended the level would have to be at least 2x as big.

Also the slowdowns in quicktimes have been adjusted alot recently, and as it is now the more correct buttons you hit correctly the faster you move along the path, so that if u miss one it hurts you but if u get them correct you should go faster. The buttons main purpose is to give you more boost to use during the dodging sections.

Thanx for the feedback its very appreciated.
