AH! Suddenly the religious freaks get defensive! "It doesn't count towards THAT!" they say!

Ah, but it DOES! In the eyes of THE LORD, this is your REBIRTH, no? A new beginning, so to speak.

Nevermind the fact that your body is already dead from the years of alcohol, drug and sexual abuse you heaped upon it...no...you're born again now.

NEW soul. NEW body. NEW life, right?

You don't get the new body until Heaven, smart guy.

I do not need a "savior". A savior from what, exactly? My "sins"?

Christianity is a steaming pile of utterly useless sh!t, in my opinion.

what good is that? if you "Accepted jesus" and immediately got the new body it would be much easier to convince people its the truth, nevermind it would be totally impressive.

True, but if you had a new body how would you convince people who you are? (or were)
You wouldn't look like you. It would just be way too confusing.

What good is the new body if I'm stuck with the same old face? THAT would be cruel and God's supposed to love me.

but if a christian said something similar to this about islam or bhuddism or even homesexuality they'd be labeled "intolerant" "ignorant" "fundie whacko" whatever you wanna call it....

as for the original question, yes, i'm born-again...

most of the posters here seem to be looking for information from someone in the know.
if you happen to be that person, feel free.

I think 'born again' is more of a political designation than a religious one. I am a believer but I abhor the 'born again' label.

My SO's parents are born-agains fundies. It's tough, from my POV, to approach them, as I'm a liberal independent agnostic.

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. My entire family is getting increasingly religious/conservative.

There was a time I considered myself conservative, but the Republican party left the ideals I agreed with (fiscal responsibility, small government). I'm now a liberal leaning independent by today's standards. Conservative doesn't even mean conservative by definition anymore.

Join us in the libertarian party.

How'd we get from religion to politics?

And to think the non-religious folks complain that it's the Christians who bring their religion into politics.

WHY YOU SHOULD CONVERT TO FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTERISM

* Flimsy moral standards.
* Every friday is a relgious holiday. If your work/school objects to that, demand your religious beliefs are respected and threaten to call the ACLU.
* Our heaven is WAY better. We've got a Stripper Factory AND a Beer Volcano.

Yes. I don't think you can be a Christian and not be "born again." The phrase comes from John 3. I think most nonchristians equate "born-again" Christianity with Christian fundamentalists, some of whom are rather extreme and are capable of doing very "unchristianlike" actions in support of their ideals.

I agree 100% You can't be a follower of Christ (a Christian) if you don't believe in the Word of GOd, which states that the only way to heaven is through Jesus.

And then the interpretation debate ensues. If the only way to heaven is through Jesus, are there several ways to Jesus? Also, since Jesus created all things (John 1), wouldn't it be impossible anyway in a sense to do *anything* completely uninfluenced by Jesus? Finally, is it possible to be "saved" without knowing it? (i.e., Jesus is your means of salvation although you're unaware, as in the case of infants or those who have never heard.)

"There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, ?Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.?
Jesus answered and said to him, ?Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.?

Nicodemus said to Him, ?How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother?s womb and be born??

Jesus answered, ?Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ?You must be born again.? The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.?

Nicodemus answered and said to Him, ?How can these things be??
Jesus answered and said to him, ?Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

?He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.? -Matthew 2:1-20
