Spend your $$$ elsehwere. I don't mean to threadcrap, but BOSE is overpriced junk.
Very little of what u pay goes into the design or components of the speaker 85% of the cost goes to their marketing dept. BOSE has Great Marketing, not great speakers!

Gotta agree with mboy here. You can get speakers that sound considerably better than bose for 1/4 the price. Notice how most Bose dealers have the Bose speakers in their own separate sound rooms? Bose requires that. Notice Bose doesn't publish Frequency Response stats, wattages, or other relevant statistics? Go to a real HiFi dealer and listen to what $150 will get you and its considerably better than those Bose.

No highs, no lows; must be Bose!

So you guys actually OWN these speakers? Because I _DO_ own them, and they sound fantastic. I also have the 770 system mentioned in the post, and it too is a great unit. Very compact, excellent sound, incredible value.

It's foolish to buy (or not buy) a product only on the brand name. Also, you shouldn't take advice from me -- or anyone else here. They're your ears. Go to a store and listen for yourself.

I will agree with most of you guys that bose is overpriced, but can somebody take the challenge and show me better speakers available for under $200 or a better combination of bose speakers and a 500watts AV amplifier for under $330 the same or better crisp sound and uncluttered bass.

I still have 30days to return and you still have 30 days to prove it.

As someone who works for Bose, I can say that the majority of our profits DO indeed go back into research. We have projects that have been in development for years, and we continue to invest our time and money into perfecting them. I would like to know where your "85% to marketing" figure comes from.

Our products ARE more expensive than anything you'll find at BB or CC, but you get what you pay for. The speakers we design are set up in special listening rooms in order to allow listeners to hear their clarity. If you're looking for loud ok sounding speakers then I admit, Bose is not for you, but if you appreciate good sound you won't be unhappy with them.

Ok smart guy....you go find me a set of 5 speakers and a sub that sounds better than these BOSE speakers for $47 (1/4 of $188). You know what....if you do...I'll buy them off of you for $47 and give you another $47 for free.

I got a set of Harmon kardon 5.1 (with a true powered 8" subwoofer), for $114 brand new from UBID that BLOW away my Budies BOSE 5.1 setup. Granted, I am not saying my HK's are top of the line by any means, but you can do better then BOSE

$188 is a decent price, but if you look around,u can get a better deal on better sounding speakers.

I'm with mboy on this but then there's no accounting for taste.

If you're gonna buy Bose speakers you might as well buy a Chrysler too.

For the price listed they are good, for the MSRP they are way overpriced, these are $700 MSRP for the series 3 (series 2 no longer listed). Also if your biggest concern is aesthetics then bose is hard to beat since they are so tuny, but you cannot get very good sound range out of a single driver. Energy, Paradigm, Polk, Infinity, Klipsch, JBL, Boston Acoustics all have better mini speaker systems, some for less some for more than Bose.

I dont care about this deal one way or another, but you guys keep saying "if you look around"

I think it's kind of rude/silly to totally crap on a deal, and just say "If you look around you can find better"

I think if you really want to prove your point you should provide some decent examples, and more than just "The KLH BLOW away the bose" I don't even know what that means... do you mean they are louder? or do they produce sound more accuratley? are they clearer? Better highs? better lows? or what?

However, I do have to add that most of the Bose products I have used I have not been impressed with. My father in-law paid 1500$ for a bose surround sound system a couple years ago, and my best way to describe it is that it seems underpowered. Of course maybe he isn't providing it with enough power

All I know is that I barely here the surrounds, and the self powered sub, really doesnt hit very hard.

However, thats a criticism of a 1500$ system... for 188$ who knows?

I do know that I like the way my 199$ Aiwa system sounds, better than his 1500$ Bose system, and I'm not really all that exciteda about my cheap Aiwa stuff to begin with. I bought it when I was a total audio noob. It's not terrible. but nothing great.

Oh please...show me one respectable hi fi store that actually sells your crappy products. Yes for $188 it is a good price but for $300 you're nuts if you think you can't do better. Before the Bose people kill me yes I have heard Bose speakers before.

Bose is one of those audio companies that are all marketing and no quality like Monster Cable. Even Magnolia Hi Fi who pushes Monster cable like crazy doesn't use it in their high end setups. I was about to ask if they used it with their Krell power amp and $30,000 Martin Logan speakers but they had Audioquest cables back there.

Altho they carry some nice products and most are not in my budget, I would not call them a high end store by ANY means.

You're right, Tweeter isn't TOP of line, but neither is Bose. Any place they sells "top of the line" equipment will also carry products that MUCH more expensive than Bose. I'm not trying to convince anyone that Bose is the best... we're not, but we are better than most of the cheaper stuff available at BB and CC and places like that.

I agree, Bose may have been a quality name at one time. They are now just mass market crap. Good sound is subjective and relevant. Get them if it floats your boat, but don't listen to anything else. My friends would laugh at me if they saw these at my house, not because of pretention, but because of lousy sound.

Enjoy!

I'm sorry but all I see are budget brands from that store and it is hardly high end. Where is the Axiom, Energy, Thiel, Infinity, NHL, B&W, McIntosh, PSB, Krell, Paradigm etc?
