Boss needs to run 3 1080p monitors extended/mirrored, no gaming

Hi all,

My boss has three 1080p monitors. Their only inputs are HDMI and DVI. He wants to run two extended, and the third as a mirror of one of the others.

We had all three up and running with his HD6850 card, using 2x DVI and 1x active DisplayPort to DVI adapter. Recently, whether through a driver update or some other circumstance, the third monitor is no longer detected. All three monitors work, but they only get a signal if running directly from the card's DVI ports.

We've tried more than one active DisplayPort adapter, and aside from one of them working for around a month or two, nothing seems to be working. We also tried updating the AMD drivers, to no avail.

He's frustrated, I'm frustrated, and we're out of ideas. He's willing to buy a new graphics card if it will alleviate the problem, but he's not willing to spend weeks ordering different items and trying new adapters to see if one just might work.

What do you guys suggest?

No igp/onboard on the motherboard you could connect it to?

Could buy a a cheap extra graphics card if there's room.

I think that you can only mirror displays when they are hooked up to the same display controller / card, so keep that in mind if you purchase an additional card.

Seems obvious but I'll state it anyway, did you try rolling back to an older driver?

If he wants to simply mirror one, cant you just get a DVI splitter to use on one of the ports? Turn one DVI into two? It'd serve the purpose of mirroring, without the software needing to know about it.
