There has to be more to this story. I cant figure out why she isnt signed up under Obamacare? Certainly that is cheaper than selling a business. And before clicking this thread I thought "I bet it is an older guy with a hot woman". And sure enough it was. I know it is completely cliche and cynical. But I have to think he is banging her as well.

The deadline for signing up for Obamacare for the 2014 year has already passed.

You had to sign up in late 2013, if she signs up now, it will be for the 2015 calender year I believe.

This is done to prevent people from not signing up at all and then simply signing up whenever they get sick or need medical attention and then dropping the plan afterwards.

No, I believe the original deadline was Dec 15, which got pushed back to Dec 23 because of the healthcare.gov website problems. How can the deadline for coverage in the 2014 year be 3 months into 2014? She would have to pay for January's coverage by next week.

I believe the open enrollment runs until Mar 31st. The deadline you are talking about is if you want to be covered Jan 1st.

I'm not gonna go through all your points, but I think it's worth pointing out that you don't know the difference between selling a business and dismantling/liquidating it.

it could very well happen, though. It all depends on the buyer and how they decide to manage things.

Of course, one would assume that the seller includes job security for employees in the contract of sale--I'm pretty sure this is common, right?

At least, there is a certain amount of time of employment that can be guaranteed in contracts, if I'm not mistaken.
