Bought a Keurig, makes terrible coffee. Suggest replacement

Had a 4-cup Mr. Coffee that died after 2-years, it was great, but most of the coffee went down the drain. Read all these amazing reviews about single serve coffee machines and decided to try one.

Picked up a Keurig B130 two weeks ago, hoping it would be good. After trying the different sample k-cups that it came with, i'm not impressed.

The coffee tasted weak and has a bad plastic taste. After the 5th time of using the machine, it malfunctioned. Had to run it though twice to get one full cup of coffee. Other times, it would spit the coffee all over the place.

Can anyone recommend a good single serve coffee machine that uses a refillable cup, not looking to buy those stupid cups, maybe i'll just get another Mr. Coffee.

Got my sister a Keurig K65 for her birthday a couple months ago. It has the water filter kit. Also got her the basket for using your own coffee or tea. She loves it.

I use Illy Espresso with a reusable K-cup filter with my Keurig brewer. That tastes good. The other pre-made ones, not so much usually.

It's not the brewer, its the coffee! Just get a Bonavita drip machine and some real coffee.

It's the brewer. My wife wanted the "platinum" brewer for ease and convenience of coffee making when rushed in the mornings.

Worst damned coffee maker ever.

Ours tasted like burnt rubber and plastic. We tried the "vinegar" flush several times. Called Keurig up and got another one. Same shitty taste. Tried the vinegar flush again. Nope. Still tastes like ass.
Got a 3RD one and it's just as shitty as the first two. Look online and you will see multiple complaints about the plastic/rubber taste that never goes away.

We tried using reusable filter and they didn't help anything at all. Complete f*ing waste of money. It literally taste like rubber. It's boxed up and she doesn't use it at all anymore.
Her office has the next model lower and it taste fine...well as fine as you can get with those K-cups. No bad plastic or rubber taste at all.

I use the Hamilton Beach "scoop" single serve maker..

OOO - I want.

Seriously, I've never seen such a beast. Beautifully simple and perfect. Sure, pods are great in that you can have a hundred flavors on hand - but fresh ground coffee? Or, some halfway decent pre-packaged ground coffee (think: bags of "better" coffees) - and very economical all around.
My grinder is not in use. Coffee house style (big) burr grinder - it's huge, no room here.
It really does need a thorough cleaning though. Burrs should be fine. I bought it used forever ago, and I've barely used it. It worked great when I had it, super fine and consistent - perfect for espresso in the perfect brew time on the basic machine I had... er, have. lol (adjustable burrs, btw) Used a little in high school after buying it, but it didn't travel to school and now I've got no counter space in a shared apartment. lol

I do prefer to avoid drip coffee, but it is usually more convenient, especially if you aren't grinding per brew.

The multiple device, made-by-hand approach definitely requires patience though. With repetition you get quick, but it's still hands-on for multiple steps. If you roast yourself, even better.

But using either fresh or at least remotely fresh from good roast sources, grinding per brew IS rewarding for good beans in the right brewing equipment.

I use a porcelain cone on top of my mug, a Melita #4 paper cone filter, and a Krups electric kettle.

Boil water. Place #4 filter in cone. Spoon in ground coffee to taste. Put cone on mug. Slowly pour water into cone.

Cleanup is just to toss the filter and to rinse the cone. The porcelain cone has lasted around 20 years so far.

Example cone: Amazon ASIN: B001W6Q53C

This but I'd go with a smaller cone http://www.sweetmarias.com/sweetmar...onmac-2-single-hole-porcelain-filtercone.html

#4 is too large

Ideally a pouring kettle is good as well so you can saturate the coffee perfect such as this

Dave Simmons, I see you are in the same town as Baratza... nice. Fine company. Grinders use alot of plastic but they are still great.

I wonder if the Keurigs have variable QC, or if they're different by model. I'm not a coffee snob, but I know a good cup of coffee, and the bottom end machine I got my mother makes a good cup of coffee. Not the best, but above average for average household coffee. They seem to be very polarizing, with people either loving or hating them. I think it's wasteful, but it's a neat machine, and my mother loves hers.

My Keurig is fine. I wouldn't call it fantastic coffee but it's perfectly satisfactory for making coffee at home. I like the Tully's k-cups.

If you don't like it though, go with a French press.

i got my brother one for christmas and he loves it. i never want just one cup so i use a auto drip or a french press

ive never had a k cup that impressed me, or would even make decent enough coffee for me to consider buying it. way too expensive.

Seems like a lot of work to mount a grinder to the wall every morning to make coffee.

my Mr Coffee burr grinder works awesome. Its loud as shit but it serves as a secondary alarm clock.

Aeropress is not for everyone. I have one and hate it. It doesn't make a full cup and doesn't give any better results than my french press.

My wife bought a Keurig last year - still works ok and the coffee is pretty good (she buys the more expensive kcups I guess).

My history with coffee makers in the past 20 years is not good - most break in under a year...

Get a french press! Unless you shatter it, you can't break it.

For the record I shattered my first one gloriously. It ended up with ground coffee in all sorts of cracks and crevices and me going to the med center.

Just get a french press and a burr grinder and call it done unless you're having to move so early in the morning you simply don't have time.

I'm liking that single serving one for in the mornings. That could solve a lot of my morning wake up problems (like putting the coffee pot in the cupboard half a dozen times)
