What's wrong with your normal $20 coffee maker?

I can't believe they managed to get people to pay 100+ and spend tons of money on BS cups. More power to them though!!!

They burn the coffee, which some people like the taste of. Others find it too bitter that way. If you are one of those that loads it with creams and sweeteners it probably does not matter how you make it. For those of us that drink it without those, the quality of the brew is more important.

My friend has a Keurig, and it does not matter what brand K-cup he uses, I find the coffee meh at best, and blech on others. The method Dave suggested we call hobo coffee and I prefer it to french press. Passing the coffee through a natural paper filter removes diterpenes unlike the press method.

However it also removes some of the oils, oils that I find enhance the flavor.

Coffee is a very personal thing. I have yet to meet two people that agree 100% on the best way to make coffee, best coffee to use and best way to prepare it. But that is part of the attraction. There are so many ways to make high quality coffee and the best ones require the least expensive equipment.

Burn the coffee? Not sure what you are talking about.

They are bitter because people don't clean the glass/plastic properly. Use very hot water/rinse rinse rinse and you won't have that problem.

No clue cause I cannot drink the coffee black, that's just disgusting.

I have a $30 black and decker coffee maker. Use the vinegar rinse every month and I drink my coffee with just cream, no sugar. Tastes pretty good. My friend has a kuereg machine, not sure which one but it's simple. Tried some Starbucks cups, dunkin cups, tasted fine to me.

I thought the same thing about Keurig. If you've tried the refillable k-cups and they don't do it for you, abandon the Keurig and see if you can sell it to someone.

For single serving coffee makers, I've have only had one make exceptional coffee...and it's too expensive for me. Nespresso makes a coffee maker that uses these coffee disks.

http://www.nespresso.com/pro/uk/en/professional-coffee-range
It's a front-loading system. Here's the Gemini CS100 that was $1300ish...like I said, too expensive:
http://www.nespresso.com/ecom/medias/sys_master/public/8887615488030/UK_CS100-EUR_mediaMainHD.png

They have a cheaper model that uses something that looks more like K-cups....but I don't know how good it is. The commercial version is exceptional. I wish I could try the lower end models to see how they compare.

For the best coffee on a budget, get an 8-10 cup coffee pot and make slightly larger batches of coffee invest in a thermos to save what you don't drink right away... I've found that 4 cup coffee pots don't brew coffee that good. My old Black & Decker coffee pot would do a minimum of 6 cups before it would come out right. I currently use a Bunn coffee pot at home and do 8-10 cup batches to get the best results. My wife and I waste a few cups per day, but the added cost is worth the quality of coffee we drink and we still save money over going to Starbucks or even a gas station....

Somewhat off topic maybe, but I find the amount of waste produced from these Keurig machines to be somewhat disturbing. Every cup of coffee results in another plastic cup going into the landfill somewhere.

Yeah....but it's thin plastic. It's probably less material than when someone goes to McDonalds and gets one of their paper-covered styrofoam cups every morning....

I'm not keen on how much disposable plastic we use since it doesn't break down for thousands of years. Once it's buried, UV can't assist in the break down....and even when it does, it breaks into small pieces or plastic beads.

Someone gave me a Keurig. I gave it away.

AeroPress from Aerobie is what I use.

For me, it works better than a French Press.

YMMV,

It's not the brewer, its the coffee! Just get a Bonavita drip machine and some real coffee.

Sounds like the brewer to me.

"After the 5th time of using the machine, it malfunctioned. Had to run it though twice to get one full cup of coffee. Other times, it would spit the coffee all over the place."

I agree it is personal. I prefer not to ingest the part that potentially increases the chance for heart disease.

I agree with everything you said here. Black coffee is like drinking gasoline. I use the green mountain coffee or gloria jeans pods. I've been drinking caramel vanilla cream flavored coffee lately with copious amounts of flavored creamer.

Don't live your life like that! Enjoy all the bad stuff! (Bacon, Ice Cream, AND Coffee Oils)

People always make it sound like dying under the age of 70 is a bad thing. I want to go out early so I don't end up wrinkling up too much.

Pick your battles is my motto. I spent 15yrs riding sport bikes for primary transportation including a t-bone wreck at 40-45mph. I have had a laundry list of injuries from combat sports overs the decades. I have surfed in TS and hurricane swells. My death if premature will hopefully be quick. Surviving a stroke or MI is not something I want to deal with. Even gorking from an infarct is a nightmare I have no wish to endure. I therefore take reasonable precautions to help minimize that potential. Besides eating clean most of the time and hobo coffee are taste preferences for me. And I do eat bacon, because the mis/disinformation about saturated animal fat and other natural fats and how unhealthy it is can suck it. :awe:

"Donut Shop" K-Cup FTW

Try it first before you get rid of your machine.

I like that one too. There's a few that are pretty good, but I don't remember what they're called. my mother gets them.

I boil water in this and then pour over coffee grounds filtered through this. It couldn't be more simple. If you can boil water, you can make great coffee.
