That thing looks awesome.
it truly is the best of both worlds.
single serve coffee maker, combined with a drip maker.
i use my own grinder to grind the beans fresh for each cup

marked, the wife is talking about getting a Keurig, I may use this thread to direct her elsewhere
I bought one of these:
It's 0.5 L. I just fill it up half, and then I have an excellent cup of coffee in the morning.
Or one of these:
if you want to go.

I use a porcelain cone on top of my mug, a Melita #4 paper cone filter, and a Krups electric kettle.
Boil water. Place #4 filter in cone. Spoon in ground coffee to taste. Put cone on mug. Slowly pour water into cone.
Cleanup is just to toss the filter and to rinse the cone. The porcelain cone has lasted around 20 years so far.
Example cone: Amazon ASIN: B001W6Q53C
Buying K-Cups is quite possibly the stupidest financial decision someone can ever make.
Seriously.
Aeropress is not for everyone. I have one and hate it. It doesn't make a full cup and doesn't give any better results than my french press.
I don't say this to be harsh, but could it be that you're using it wrong?
It's not intended to make a full cup of coffee. It makes a concentrated coffee, that you're supposed to add more hot water to if you're looking for an American-style coffee. (Or you can make a latte with milk.) It's not quite espresso, but the stuff that comes out of it is closer to espresso than to drip.
If you use two scoops of coffee and fill the thing to the top with water, you're going to overextract it and miss out on the smooth coffee concentrate it's designed to produce. I have one and love its taste. It's the only brew method I can enjoy black!
Oh no offense ntaken. NS1 loves his and inspired me to buy one. I tried a bunch of different coffee to water ratios, coffee blends, everything I could think of because I wanted awesomeness. But its just not for me.

Like... holy fuck. It's a piece of thin plastic with some coffee ground inside.
Try the stainless filter for the Aeropress. I haven't used paper filters for a couple of years. If you want quantity the Aeropress is probably not for you. For small cup quality though it can't be beat for the price. Plus it doesn't produce the nasty ass dregs that a French Press does.Oh no offense ntaken. NS1 loves his and inspired me to buy one. I went from that to a French press where I could adjust the level and get more than a small cup. Lots of people love them, its just not for me.
Plus the filters suck!

I'm a coffee snob. I grind my own beans and then brew in a french press, aeropress, or chemex depending on my mood and the kind of bean.
I appreciate the Keurig, because it allows me to have a cup of coffee in my hand 30 seconds after entering the kitchen in the morning.
Of course, you should buy the My K-Cup, and use your own coffee or tea.
Also for most of us our morning beverages are not financial decisions we worry about.

I have the Cuisinart version of the Keurig. I absolutely love it. They don't make the absolute best cup of coffee, but they make a decent cup. I don't have any plastic taste nor is the coffee weak. I use a brita filter pitcher next to the machine to supply the water and there is a brita filter in the machine as well, so the water quality is pretty good.
I have several k-cups that I like end enjoy. I find it to be as good or slightly better than most chain coffee shops. It's not the cheapest cup of coffee. A friend was using the self filled filter with his, and he calculated his cost using ground coffee at about 25 Cents a cup. I pay about 45 to 50 Cents a k-cup. It's really about the convenience, plus none of the coffee goes to waste. It's also an extremely consistent cup of coffee. Caffeine doesn't affect my sleep, so I will drink coffee all day long and a single cup brewer is perfect for that evening cup after dinner.
Lately I have been drinking "New England Coffee" brand k-cups. It is the same brand coffee that one of our local donut shops use and I like it a lot. The k-cups are also less wasteful. The normal k-cups are a plastic cup containing coffee in a paper filter. This stuff is a plastic ring holding a filter filled with coffee and no actual plastic cup.
I am also a coffee snob. I love a great cup of coffee. I can taste the subtle differences between various blends. I also drink my coffee black. When friends offer flavored coffee (I can't stand flavored coffee), or sweetened creamers, etc I always say No thanks, I prefer my coffee to be coffee flavored.
I have one friend that always buys a fairly expensive blend, and it's not bad, because he says it taste better, yet he always loads it with sugar and hazelnut creamer, leaves it on the burner half the day, and then microwaves what's been sitting in the pot for 12 hours.
