Hey guys,

So I set up my new 34" Samsung (it looks awesome btw!) and rigged up DP using the included cable. Windows 10 stuck at 800X600 with no way to change it. Fiddled for like an hour with no luck. Then I tried the HDMI cable instead and the resolution now works fine. Did I get a bad cable or does this monitor only support that resolution with HDMI? It seems rather dumb to have DP if DP only works at 800X600.

Was there a driver disk included with the monitor, and did you install the driver? Are you using a DP cable that supports 3440x1440 @ 60Hz?

Your display adaptor driver controls the resolution to your monitor. Look at the ati control panel for your card and adjust it accordingly or if you're using crimson the crimson control panel.

I can't find the resolution settings in Crimson control center (Radeon 290) so I just set it with Windows Display Settings.

Also, there is a setting in my monitor (Dell U2414H) to set DP to v1.2, so see if that is available in the Samsung.

There was a driver but didn't do anything. HDMI works fine for the resolution, DP does not. Monitor seems to say DP is DP 1.2. Both cables were what came with the monitor.

I should add, the menu onscreen in the monitor said DP was 1.2.

Do you have the latest graphics driver installed, and is the graphics card recognized and working properly in device manager?

Possibly a silly question, but have you tried removing and re-inserting the DP connection while the computer is powered on and in Windows?

TBH, I would probably just stick with the HDMI. DP is nice when it works, but it often too finicky, and I have yet to see a huge advantage of using DP when both connections are available.

The biggest advantage for DP is daisychaining multiple monitors. Pretty awesome when you need it, which I did with one DP out from my GPU and 3 monitors.

Yeah, he just mentioned the one, so I assumed (but I would like to see a setup like your, hehe).

I haven't actually. I did order a 1.2 compliant DP cable (convinced the ones that came with the monitor are pretty crappy) so we'll see how that goes.

It was the cable. I bought an Accell cable on Amazon and now DP works fine at the correct res. Thanks, everyone!

Thanks for the update. Who would have thought a bad cable straight out of the box.
