Bought a SSD...Now what?!?!

Hi All,

So I jumped on a drive over black friday:

Intel 120 SSD

I have an older MB Asus P5B-E

I plan on using it as the boot drive...and I am looking for recommendations on how to configure the drive in the BIOS and if there are any general recommendations.

I had also got the 80 GB version for my wife's ASUS 1201N to hopefully breath some new life into that as well.

Can the drive be mounted in the space where the floppy drive would normally go or do I have to get a reducer cage for it (3.5 to 2.5)?


Any friendly advice is appreciated

A floppy drive is 3.5", just like a normal sized HDD. If you bought the exact SKU that you linked, then there should have been a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter in the box.

Once you've got it mounted, turn on AHCI in the BIOS and do a clean Windows install to it. There are a lot of tweaks that you can do, but AHCI is really the only one that I consider to be necessary.

You are correct...I just got both drives tonight...I pulled my wife's netbook apart (what a PITA that was) and replaced the 5400 rpm drive...and added the RAM.

Now I need to reinstall the OS on that...

Tomorrow I will work on my desktop, the box had a cable, power adapter and drive cage so I am GTG!
