I tried it out earlier today and I got 885Kb/sec download, and about 72Kb/sec upload. IT is rev A, so the upload is sort of on the slow side.

I would love one, but not sure if I could get it to work with my current carrier (Alltel).

Good question! But, how does one determine the latency of a hotspot?

Anyway, I am very interested in the Verizon MF-2200 (MiFi. I looked at Sprint's, and their plans told me "uh-uh!" Verizon has much better plans.

I would use the Mi-Fi device only as an alternate means of connection, i.e., supplemental.

What's wrong with Sprint's plans?

I think the latency of the speakeasy speedtest I did was around 130ms.

They only offer one plan with that device - the $60 a month one. Verizon offers three that I know of. 1. The 5GB plan; 2. The 250MB plan, and 3. Pay as you go for actual usage.

If any one ever comes up with a semi-annual or annual plan (pay up front) then I would pounce on it.

I guess if your company was paying for it, and those day passes...seems perfect for your situation. For personal/home office use I would just get a free USB modem and then a USB capable router.

Are there any routers that will take in a signal off the USB port and then route it? For the cost of a router that has a USB port, you might as well get the MiFi which is a small router, or can be used over USB.

They're easily accessible, I think netgear is the most popular. MiFi is $200 though

I will say this, I went in to Verizon today to trade in my phone and I checked out the Mifi and is very small which I didn't realize. It is no doubt a great device, but a usb modem + router would be a cheaper option.

Work provided me with a Mifi a little bit ago, it's pretty neat and I really can't complain about speeds.
