Long time lurker, just strating to be a poster

attn: if your just gunna write back "ur screwed" or "thats what you get for buying on ebay" or similar, then please don't post.

I bought an (advertised as working) ipod without a charger on ebay from some ebay company, and the company says that hteres a 7 day RMA period that they grant. I was unable to afford or come across a charger in that period, actually it took me 20 days to get my hands on a charger. Lo and behold, its broken...

I wrote them when I received the ipod that it would take more than 7 days to come across a charger... when i emailed them on 10/17 saying it was broken they wrote back saying they wouldn't grant me a refund. i paid via paypal... whats the best way to get my money back?

I typed up a chargeback repsonse to paypal (Didnt send it yet), but idk if it will fly

I purchased this item on September 22 and received it on Sept 29. However since it did not come with a charger I gave Dealtree fair notice that I would be unable to test the unit until I would be able to afford a charger. I clearly stated it in an email on September 29 quoted here...

I need to obtain a charger for this unit before I can test it out. I would appreciate it if you could extend the Any discrepancies or defects must be reported to us within 7 days of receipt of the item. policy.

Thanks

I finally got to test out the item on October 17, when I finally could afford a charger and it did not work, I received an error, i emailed dealtree

I'm sorry that this did not come sooner but I have been unable to come across a charger for this ipod. When I boot this unit I get an Apple Logo, then a File Icon with a Triangle and a ! in it. Like /!\ I do not know what this error is, but I wish to either get this fixed or a full refund. I am not happy at all, that this unit is not working, and it took me a month to come up with the money to buy a charger and now this ipod is broken. Please respond ASAP. Thanks.

>>

I sent emails and phoned them, and they responded back telling me that they could not grant me an RMA due to their rules, but I had given them fair warning. I just wish to right this wrong and cannot afford to be out the money I paid for this broken IPOD. Thanks.

You're screwed. (I didn't say "ur screwed")

Your best bet is to contact paypal.

by buying the iPod, you've agreed to the seller's terms. 7 days to RMA is pretty fair.

not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

(but it's not "ur screwed" or "that's what you get for buying on ebay" )

Stories like this illustrate why I would NEVER buy anything substantial off of eBay.

lesson for the future: do not buy a partial unit. buy a NIB unit or at least something that is tested and guaranteed not DOA. if you know it's not coming with a charger, while you're bidding on the auction, search for a charger and make sure you buy both at the same time so as not to run into issues such as these.

What is wrong with the iPod? Does it power up? Have you tried to do a hard reset?

You're the type of person that I LOATHE to deal with when selling on Ebay.

The auction's terms were clearly laid out, 7 days to RMA. Just because you were broke and couldn't afford a charger doesn't mean the seller needs to extend the RMA period. You shouldn't have won the auction.

So, you won the auction, knowing full-well that you wouldn't be able to adhere to the 7 day RMA period, and now you're filling a complain with paypal because the unit doesn't work?

btw, emaling them AFTER you received the iPod, saying that it would take you longer than the agreed upon RMA period is unfair to the seller.

take this as a lesson learned and Google a way to try and fix the iPod.

and this company should not have advertised testing this ipod as being 100% working if it was not truthful...

Before bidding on it, you should've asked whether or not the ipod was garaunteed to turn on and function upon arrival.

Does Windows / iTunes recognize the iPod? Maybe you can try updating / reinstalling the software on the iPod.

You have to disclose in the auction if there are any known defects with the product.

Sounds like a harddrive problem. Try getting an estimate online on how much it will cost to fix it. I've seen places that offer free estimates.

Your other option is to sell it as "non-working" on ebay. I've seen broken ipods go for as much as $200 depending on the kind of ipod.

I understand that, but, it doesn't matter. You agreed to their terms when you won the auction. Who's to say that you didn't break it yourself??? You've had it for nearly three weeks....that's the classic arguement that they'll use; and it will work.

Paypal won't help you. If they have a tracking number and provide a link to their auction stating "7 day RMA" then Paypal will rule in their favor.

I know you don't want to hear it, but you are "screwed"...take it as a lesson.
