I recently purchased an I5 2500K from the MC SB launch deal. It didn't ship until today and I'm trying to figure out what other parts to go with it.

Questions:

1) I wanted to go with 12 gigs for this new build so what would you recommend?

2) Is it still important to keep 1:1 ratio when oc'ing these SB chips for maximum performance?

3) Is it reasonable to expect to get a 4ghz OC on the 2500k w/stock voltage and cooler?

This is the motherboard I have in mind:

I picked that mb because I never use SLI/CF. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

1) For exactly 12GB you will need a 4GB and 8GB dual channel kits. Maybe you haven't heard yet, but it is dual channel not triple channel.

2) Keep what at 1:1 ratio? RAM to BCLK? BCLK overclocking is essentially dead. You will be multiplier overclocking with the 2500K. RAM can be clocked completely separate.

3) 4GHz with stock cooler? Yes. Stock voltage? Maybe.

I have only used the Asus P8P67, and it works well. I have no opinion on the ASRock board

4 ghz is fine on stock voltage, as long as you have a pretty good chip. If not all you have to do is up the voltage just a little more and you'll hit 4 easy.

Thanks for the responses. It's been quite awhile since I've built a new rig. I don't even do anything that would require a new system but I just want a new toy to play with The system is only being used for gaming to replace the one in my sig. Perhaps I'll just go with 8 gig since no boards exist that support triple channel for the i5 2500k.
