I bought a mobo/cpu from a reliable seller here along with 8 gigs new Ram. I am using an existing Sata HD that worked from a previous build and a XFX vid card. The only other installed device is a DVD burner. I installed a Win 7 CD to do a clean install, it installs the files and when it comes to the area where to install the OS it says it cant find the HD. Ive checked out the bios settings, boot sequence, etc and can not find out why this is happening. I also have an Antec 550W PS installed. Normally these are quite simple as I have build many pc's but nothing like this. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Having a thumb drive plugged in while trying to install 7 will sometimes do that. Make sure you unplug all unnecessary devices.

On some mobos you have two types or colors of plugs, and the hard drive has to be in a specific one. Try swapping the DVD burner and the hard drive. Its possible that you have a bad cable as well.(Though that is much more common in the old style ribbon cables.)

Could it be that a mobo bios upgrade is required required? Could try saving the bios to a USB key and give that a try.

Ok,
Does the Hard Drive have power?
Do you feel the drive is spinning up?
Did you try connect to other SATA ports?

Reset the bios, and ensure all the SATA controllers are enable.
beyond that, I think the motherboard is bad.

HD has power and spinning..tried other sata ports and still no go, Ill double check the bios again. The Sata controllers are enabled since my DVD burner is working.

I'm the seller of the board - want to chime in to try and help too.

The BIOS may not be the latest version, I don't recall having a reason to update it at all. Previously, I had an SSD, HDD, optical, and hot-swap bay connected to the motherboard. All worked fine and in AHCI mode.

Interested to see if the system can boot off of an optical or USB drive. Resetting the BIOS would be a good next step too.

I would check that Hard Drive on another system also.

I'd definitely slap that hdd into another system. It sounds like it may have taken the long road home.

If that's not possible, a boot disc may be your best option. I keep a couple different Linux boot cds just for problems like that.

Okay...just found out that my new HD is flakey. That has been replaced and now there is an isue with the ethernet port. I installed the newest drivers ( off the web) and it says that "the realtek network controiller was not found, if deep sleep mode is enabled, please plug the cable" what the heck is deep sleep mode. I cant install the drivers for the lan, what next? Thanks
Ive checked the bios and the lan is enabled to.

Running Win7 x64? Don't remember which drivers I used, but the port worked for me the little I used it.

Ive tried it multiple time, used your CD that you left in the box, downloaded the drivers from the website a few times, extracted them and I get the message as mentioned in #17 post.

Have you tried letting windows get the drivers? I know it's usually a joke, but I have experienced the service actually being successful.

Quote "now there is an issue with the ethernet port."
If you have a USB wireless adapter, you can go to windows update and see if it will find the driver.
Try going into device manager and uninstalling the realtek network controller.
Windows will find the new hardware and try to reinstall it.
