Okay deal for an 8x multiplier C2D CPU. The HP DDR2 667 RAMs and Abit IP35-E combo should be able to take a good chip up to 3.2GHz with 2.0Vdimm (400MHz FSB). Higher FSB speed will require quality RAMs like Kingston "N5" 1.8V DDR2 800 ValueRAM.

The Abit board should run well with default settings if paired with quality RAMs. My sample hits 3.32GHz with 1.46Vcore.

don't forget they charge sale tax in some states they got a showroom at. like NY, MA etc. so need to add another 5 bucks or so to this price if you in one of those states.

With tax still comes out to $68.98 shipped in VA , which is still the lowest price i could find anywhere by $2.50 for a retail box E2140.

Only in CA, CO, GA, IL, KS, MA, MD, MI, MN, NJ, NY, OH, TX, and VA...about 30% of the states. If you're close to a B&M store, then it's $60 + tax. I paid $64.64 OTD.

I don't see any $60 AMD CPU capable of keeping up with this chip @ 3.0-3.2GHz.

Yes totally agree if don't need to pay tax, then it's a decent deal, cheaper than anywhere else, but if pay tax the total can be up to 71 bucks which is same as ZZF's 72. I totally agree than if you OC this one no AMD chip can touch it at 3+ Ghz.

I got the same deal a few weeks ago and got 2. With a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L at default voltage one of them runs at 3.2G with 4G of the HP cheap ram. I have not tried the other one yet. Great chip, 100% overclock. Why buy anything more?

No. You need better RAM and a good MB that can overclock 800MHz chip to at least 420MHz FSB. These chips tend to top out around 425MHz FSB. Therefore, the E2140 may be capped at 3.4GHz.

How well do these OC if you have a good overclocking MB and Crucial Ballistix, but do not have the MO stepping?

Core 2 Duo is the name of the brand. Dual core is actual architecture.

Basically, all Core 2 Duos are dual-core.

core 2 duo and pentium dual core e2000 are the same chips more or less.

the e2000 series, is basically the core 2 duo d4000 chips, but with half the cache turned off.

so e2140 has no equivalent, but e2160 is basically e4300 with 1mb cache gone, anad e2180 is the e4400 with 1mb cache turned off.

It should work with older boards. Note that some junk boards may have problem detecting single-sided DIMM.

Will this processor provide any significant performance over a P4 3.2? I guess for $60 I can't expect much.

I have this cpu coupled with the abit IP35-E, overclocked to 2.8Ghz stable at stock settings. This is also my first overclock endeavor.

Should work well with Abit IP35-E. Avoid OCZ RAMs. 1.8V DDR2 800 RAMs from Crucial or Kingston would be my 1st choice. You can also go with Kingston N5 DDR2 667 RAMs. These module will hit 400MHz with 2.0 to 2.1Vdimm.
