Why is it ok for a mother to keep her daughter away from boys who may make a move on her, but when a parent wishes to keep their son away from gay boys, the parent is a bigot?

Parents put their children in same sex organizations for a reason. One of those reasons is to stay away from sexual pressure and temptation.
All girl and all boy activities have many aspects to them, only one of which is a (presumed) lack of sexual attraction. Excluding gay children here has only one aspect.

As far as your news that you're reporting? It was already pointed out that the rank and file (read fundamentalist BSA sponsors and participants) need to get over themselves. Boy Scouts is a great avenue for teaching boys life skills and responsibility; no matter the sexual orientation of the boys.

Um I never asked for permission to be sexually attracted. You may not realize this but for most humans it is a purely instinctual response. For asexual people such as yourself, perhaps the idea of being "allowed" to be sexually attracted makes sense.

Kids should be able to be in an organization without sexual pressure. Taking a child out of an organization that allows gays is no different than a parent taking their daughter out of an organization that allows boys.
