I didn't like it much at first, but as I read into the game more and learned the strategy, it's quickly growing on me. Furthermore, SC2 vids are more fun to watch (probably because HD and Husky are great commentators).

So the beta ends today - does that mean at midnight tonight? Or sometime today, or midnight PST, or...

HD and Husky are great commentators; however, Day[9] is a great commentator too, and he actually knows the deeper parts of strategy involved in high level play so I'd recommend him (or all of them really).

I was playing Composition Wars at lunch so it's not down yet.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The game definitely takes some getting used to for noobs like myself, but once you learn some not so basic tactics and strategies, it can have it's fun moments.

Does anyone know how to play the replays that are stored from the matches? I can't log into Battle.net through the game anymore to watch them. I do know where the files are stored, but Windows Media Player and VLC Media Player can't play them.

only way I can think of is to get one of the pirated SC2 versions, but I really have no idea how they work with regard to patches. Also it appears there was a minor patch between sunday night and monday night, so replay files might not work at all. I would just watch youtube vids.

Replays are not a video file. It's kinda like a saved game. You have to use SC2 to view it. Since everything requires you to log onto Bnet right now, I don't think you will be able to view them.

You can drag the replay files to the SC2 desktop icon and it will launch the replay outside of Battlenet. Unfortunately, trying this with replays from Patch 15 or 16 causes it to crash (at least for some people), although earlier replays still work.

Replays 15-16 = BROKEN (i think it was the ninja 16th* patch that broke it)

The HDH invitationals are now on Husky's channel. 3rd place is on HD starcraft's channel. They were exciting to watch.

yeah, I spent most of a day watching WhiteRa, Nazgul, TheLittleOne, and IdrA. The finals match of WhiteRa vs IdrA was especially awesome, great great starcraft.

imo, really no point to watching sc2 replays in hd.
i watch for the strats and as long as i can make out the units, i'm good.

HD and Husky are great commentators;

those two are annoying as f*ck.
especially during a big battle, they sound like they're engaged in cyber sex and shooting their load on the monitor.

I'd say their coverage is more for the casual/beginner SC2 player, to get more people into the game. They don't focus very much on the specific strategies, just general stuff and game observations, but at least they make the replay fun to watch.

imo, really no point to watching sc2 replays in hd.
i watch for the strats and as long as i can make out the units, i'm good.

Its pretty and looks closer to the game instead of the blurred sd of the past, whats not to like. Its nice to see the graphics have evolved to look more like the original but 3d and more detailed whereas early sc2 builds looked like warcraft 3 cartoonish.

i wonder if these vids are extra compressible. theres plenty of static areas on th escreen in games.

I beg to differ, I think BC's are very powerful if you have a support class following the BC's.

I've been playing vs AI pc's since the end of beta.

Getting my timings down and trying out new build orders.

They're too slow, too easily countered, and their DPS is too steady (allowing people to easily avoid engaging them in a way that they'd die) against a real person BCs are just a huge liability.

BCs are demolished by all three races - vikings, void rays, and corrupters. they do great DPS but not against armor, and are so expensive and so easily shot down that they're not really worth it. You can build a couple just to get your opponent to counter, though, then go mass marines or something.

Bring 5-10 scvs and have them auto repair. It's amazing how powerful and cheap it is.

I'm going to guess at what the video contains, because I don't have Flash installed at work - is it TLO, playing as Random->Terran, against Sen, as P? does TLO use a few battlecruisers late-game to wreck someone's base, then as Sen gets void rays to counter TLO uses marines? if so, he also used this strat against Nazgul in one of HD's commentaries (it was an earlier game, some invitational - I don't remember). TLO's a great player with great mixups, though, and his Terran is something else.

Nah, Sen was Zerg. He lost a lot of Overlords early-mid-game to TLO's mass Vikings. Quick expansions on both sides, but Sen's expansions were pummeled by Vikings and Sen didn't have any response to it. TLO basically went mass siege+BC at end game, Sen gg'ed early.

if you do a weapons/armor upgrade, does that automatically upgrade all units on the map, or only new units from that point on?

same question with zergling speed upgrades.
