The problem is even though mech isn't as mobile as bionic it doesn't matter, because they're so powerful they're guaranteed to win in a base race. You can't just run around a mech ball and win, as a Z player losing an expansion also means losing production, it hurts twice as much compared to the other races.

And roaches aren't really much faster than thors/tanks, not until creep is spread all over the map, which takes me a lot longer than the amount of time it takes T to mass up a mech ball and push. They move even slower when burrowed.

I've yet to try brood lords simply cause their tech pattern is so damn long, and most of my games are over before that would even be possible. It'd be nice if there was a use for corruptors against T so I could at least do something with them while transitioning to brood lords. They do seem like the best counter to a ground based mech build, but lasting long enough to actually reach hive tech is easier said than done. What league are you guys in anyways, do you have any ZvT replays?

if i have a worker who has a mineral in hand, and i send him to get gas (or with zerg, morph to extractor), do I lose the 8 mineral in hand?

Yes, or in the case of SC2, 5 minerals (7 for high yield). It's not really a big deal though, SC pros do it often, they'd rather have their tech up a second earlier than have a few extra minerals.

just a random thought, i really enjoy playing 2v2's, but i hate it when said ally is terribad and you are facing very well coordinated opponents. I like solo, but it's so much more intense and draining

Nothing is more frustrated than getting dropped from a game where you are winning by a landslide.

Yea, I'm the exact same way. 1vs1 is too stressful even if I'm winning. I think it's mostly because I'm terrible at controlling the game and know it.

1v1 is the best way to get better at the game, though. Any mistakes you make will be vary apparent where as in team games your weaknesses will often be masked by the exponential increase in complexity of the games.

The biggest thing I need to do right now is practice using hotkeys for building/controlling units. I can practice that fine in 2s. I used to be in the top 100 1vs1 on azeroth for warcraft III a few months after it was released and now I can't even build units properly : ( It's almost embrassing.

2v2 is basically an entirely different game. I generally play 2v2 with a close friend, and we're both about the same skill level (although by now he's probably significantly better). He plays Z, I play P. We play together well because we communicate and play to our strengths and weaknesses, I'm a better techer and base builder and cheeser while he's better at army and macro management. At one point we pubstomped like 10 games in a row until we finally caught a pair who was better than we were.

I'll be going on holidays for 3 weeks so I'd love to bring the game with me on my laptop. Spec-wise, it has a C2D T5850 (2.17 GHz), 4 GB RAM, 8400M GS (128 MB dedicated) and a native resolution of 1280x800. Anyone run SC2 on a similar or comparable machine? Even if it runs on low settings, I'll be happy with that as I realize the GPU isn't much better than integrated crap.

does anyone like Warcraft 3 TFT better? I personally like the attention that heroes and their spells get.

SC2 is gonna be a great game, don't get me wrong. TFT has a different dynamic to it, and i am sort of missing it right now.

Heroes created more problems than they were worth in WC3. I loved the game, played thousands of games, the balance just wasn't there in the end though.

SC2 doesn't seem to be shaping up much better in the balance department though, at least not in 2v2.

My strategy in every single game with a protoss in it is rush them protoss. I have lost 1 game doing that so far, and it was during the 10 game streak where I told our opponents that is what we were going to do.

What league are you in?

A good protoss player can get stuff up surprisingly quickly.

My AT partner hasn't been able to play much since phase 2 started, when we were doing this we were in platinum.

Also I should mention I was playing Protoss at the time, I have switched to Zerg since then and laugh at how weak P is in general.

I really hate this. I didn't get into the beta so when I get the game, I'm going to get raped by everyone that's already been playing this for months.

I didn't really "get in" to the beta in that sense either. I pre-ordered the game through one of the retailers that provided free beta keys.

Same here. I jumped on the Gamestop $48 deal but that was before they were giving out beta keys. The next week I got a key and was pleasantly surprised.

explain how you think P is weaker in general? So far Blizzard's done a good job balancing the three races, and IIRC Protoss was winning more than it should've.

I still think P has a crappy early game, but against Z a wall and a fast phoenix opening has been working well, against T early game is not nearly as important.

it doesn't take more than a week to learn all the new units and abilities, really. if you don't want to dive right into the multiplayer you can play against AI and read up on strategies in the meantime, it helps you learn how to play strategically.

watching replays also helps a lot, if you have spare time you may as well do it now. to work on your APM and multitasking, you can just play the original starcraft :awe:

If balance is all you want then play online chess.

Got a beta invite this morning, anyone know how I can create a game where its just me vs the AI? Want to practice and toy around with different units. End up getting smacked in mp games because I'm trying to figure out which units work.

Just create a game as normal and dont open it to the public. The click "add AI" and set it up on easy mode or something.

Beware of "insane AI" I started a game where on my team we had 3 people and 1 insane AI vs 4 other people on the opposing side, without us helping it or anything the AI stomped over all 4 of the other players by itsself It was pretty funny :awe:
