just started playing tonight. seems pretty fun but I got a lot to learn.
hey why is it when I play zerg I click the button to select all larva and then I press a button to morph into drone and it only morphs 1 larva, not all selected? thats annoying
Now I've lost 5 in a row, no matter how hard I try. Im completely outmatched. I wonder how many I've got to lose before they put me in the silver league where I belong?
I don't think you need to stop learning just because you face many worse players in a row. It seems like it'd be a good chance to practice increasing your consistency and macro with a particular build, being diligent at scouting, and being aggressive.I did that before this latest patch that reset the ladders 5 times in the last week. Won 4-1 in my placement matches and then proceeded to get my ass kicked in gold league. I was under 700 score before it finally put me into the silver league, where I finally started to win most of the time. Then it took two weeks just to get above 1000 again. Just as I was getting into the 1100's and approaching the top 10...the patch came out and everything reset.
Just keep playing, if nothing else you should be getting some nice replays to watch and learn. I was actually kinda sad when I got put into silver because I started to play against people worse than me so I stopped learning.
By the point in the game where you have four hatcheries all hotkeyed on the same number, and two queens vomiting on the hatcheries nonstop, select all larva might give you 20 larvae and you probably don't want to make drones out of all of them. It'd be nice if you could shift-key for five units at a time though.just started playing tonight. seems pretty fun but I got a lot to learn.

What if you want to build one drone, a zergling and an overlord? Not so annoying now, eh?

I hope they make the placement matches 10 instead of 5. I know I'm not terribly good at the game, but I know whats going on from playing the first one decades ago. I was really concerned that a decade later the competition would be so fierce it wouldnt even be fun online.
So I got in from gamestop literally as soon as the promo was posted, and I was shocked at how poor everyone was playing. Some even seemed to be deliberately throwing the matches. I steamrolled just about everyone and got placed into the gold league.

Well, I dont want to learn so much as to have a good time. Feeling like I actually have a chance is part of that.
I get the grand strategy part of the game, but what kills me is the micro. People are able to do things with probes that blow my mind, they dodge my bullets etc. As soon as I start to try to do that stuff, it completely takes over and next thing I know I've got 2000 unspent minerals.
I wish they had updated the interface a bit more where it would be easier to manage your building without having to click on the structures and stuff. I know you can use hotkeys and assign them to numbers, but it feels like such an unelegant solution. Its as if they were scared to change too much fundamentally that it would piss off the pro players, but it still feels so clunky and outdated in a lot of ways.
'D' and 'A' are far closer to where your hand would be anyways. There are multiple hotkey setups you can choose from though, if you don't like the default. You bring up something about hotkeys - why are the hotkeys so counter intuitive?
i know they can be changed easily to your preference, but the defaults make no sense anymore.
Like building a marine you click 'A' instead of the more obvious 'M'.
You load units on a ship and then to give that ship an unload order you hit 'D' instead of 'U'.
its just strange...
Good players use the keys reflexively. It doesn't matter if it takes an extra game or a couple to initially learn them. A and D are directly under your hand while M and U are on the other end of the keyboard so M and U are a pain in the ass in the long run.You bring up something about hotkeys - why are the hotkeys so counter intuitive?
