Whoo-hoo! (Sorry, just had to express my enthusiasm here.)
I went to my local OfficeMax today, in search of a posted hot deal (50 generic DVD-R for ~$13). Their computer showed one unit in stock, but the CSR couldn't find it, and they recently (a few months ago) totally remodeled the store layout, and the media is now spread out over quite a few areas, instead of concentrated in one area. I suspect that someone working there might have put it in back, but given the off-brand nature of the media, and the therefore questionable quality, that seems less likely. But enough about that.
I was hanging around the front of the store, waiting for the CSR to check the inventory for the SKUs that I had brought with me, and lo and behold, what did I spy, but a lingering Ghost of a Hot Deal, staring me in my face...
They had a Cendyne 4x DVD +/- R/RW drive sitting there, no shrink-wrap, with $49.99 written in pen directly on the outer cardboard box. I was thinking to myself.. "hmm, that's odd. I thought that OM got rid of those on clearance months ago. The box looks opened, must have been a customer return." So, to make a longer story shorter, I talked to the manager, and asked him to give me an open-box discount on what was obviously a customer return of previous clearance merchandise. He did... only $30! I was expecting maybe 10%, or $10 off, considering that BestBuy normally marks down open-box items by 10% (to start). I also only had $35 on me at the time, so if it were $40, I would have had to try to put down a deposit and return later with the rest of the money. But no! The Lord Above must have been shining down on me, because the mgr marked it down a full 40% off ($30), just enough for me to buy it. (I've been recently wanting a DVD burner really badly lately, now that media prices have come down.) Anyways.. actually... now that I think about it, I *did* happen to run into a church-oriented youth group at the gas station a mere five minutes before I went to the OfficeMax.. so maybe... Hmm. I'm thankful for the little miracles in life too.
Anyways, I'm very happy now, so much so that I actually posted this in the correct thread. (I hope.)
So, can I call this one, "Hot Deals Deja-Vu"? Or "The Miracle at OfficeMax"? Or ... nah, skip that, now it's TIME TO BURN LIKE A MADMAN!!!
(yeah, forgive me, I'm still excited, it feels like Christmas in the summertime)
