Whoo-hoo! (Sorry, just had to express my enthusiasm here.)

I went to my local OfficeMax today, in search of a posted hot deal (50 generic DVD-R for ~$13). Their computer showed one unit in stock, but the CSR couldn't find it, and they recently (a few months ago) totally remodeled the store layout, and the media is now spread out over quite a few areas, instead of concentrated in one area. I suspect that someone working there might have put it in back, but given the off-brand nature of the media, and the therefore questionable quality, that seems less likely. But enough about that.

I was hanging around the front of the store, waiting for the CSR to check the inventory for the SKUs that I had brought with me, and lo and behold, what did I spy, but a lingering Ghost of a Hot Deal, staring me in my face...

They had a Cendyne 4x DVD +/- R/RW drive sitting there, no shrink-wrap, with $49.99 written in pen directly on the outer cardboard box. I was thinking to myself.. "hmm, that's odd. I thought that OM got rid of those on clearance months ago. The box looks opened, must have been a customer return." So, to make a longer story shorter, I talked to the manager, and asked him to give me an open-box discount on what was obviously a customer return of previous clearance merchandise. He did... only $30! I was expecting maybe 10%, or $10 off, considering that BestBuy normally marks down open-box items by 10% (to start). I also only had $35 on me at the time, so if it were $40, I would have had to try to put down a deposit and return later with the rest of the money. But no! The Lord Above must have been shining down on me, because the mgr marked it down a full 40% off ($30), just enough for me to buy it. (I've been recently wanting a DVD burner really badly lately, now that media prices have come down.) Anyways.. actually... now that I think about it, I *did* happen to run into a church-oriented youth group at the gas station a mere five minutes before I went to the OfficeMax.. so maybe... Hmm. I'm thankful for the little miracles in life too.

Anyways, I'm very happy now, so much so that I actually posted this in the correct thread. (I hope.)

So, can I call this one, "Hot Deals Deja-Vu"? Or "The Miracle at OfficeMax"? Or ... nah, skip that, now it's TIME TO BURN LIKE A MADMAN!!!

(yeah, forgive me, I'm still excited, it feels like Christmas in the summertime)

Long story short...I got in on the 9700 Pro deal for $129 at Compgeeks. They evidently mislabeled the package and sent it to New York via Fed Ex and dropped it on some guys back porch. I am "currently" out $135 and no ATI card. Of course they are out of stock with no comparable card to replace it with.

Now I get to try and get a refund which is not going as well as could be. I think I will just let the bank handle it... My last time shopping at Compgeeks...

Hah, Fedex did that to me too...

What'd they do exactly, this time I should add? I'll add to the OfficeMax MOAN. I ordered memory from their deal a few days ago with the $20 rebate. (try to trick people into accepting cheap speakers or a CD instead) Today I look outside and the UPS driver just left it on the front porch, no knock or anything. I was home all morning, I guess that's UPS's fault. I open up the approx: 12x6x4 box and the only thing inside is the stick of ram, in its original package, and two slips of paper.(one an invoice, one an ad) Nothing else, as in no foam, peanuts, bubblewrap, nada. I can't imagine how much physical abuse the RAM took flying around in a box 50 times too big. Luckily it was tested and worked. Since OM was horrible on a previous Kingston deal and packs like idiots I'm afraid to buy from them again. They could have dropped it into a padded envelope and sent it first class for much cheaper and more securely. Grumble.....

At a sale of state office equipment this morning I bought 2 HP Color Laserjet 5m printers for $20 ea. One worked but had bad drum, one didn't work but drum was fine. Switched out the drums and got one printer with 2 sets of toner that works great for $40. I'm a happy camper.

BRAG:
Last October I was shopping for a portable DVD player. I searched several places on the web and most were in the $500-700 range. Even the cheapy one at Wal-Mart was over $300. So I decided that this was a purchase that could wait. A couple days later I happened to be browsing the Best Buy site, and lo-and-behold, there was a Panasonic portable dvd player with 7" LCD monitor, model #DVD-LV70, for $150! I couldn't believe my eyes because, at that time, this model was selling for over $650 everywhere else! I couldn't hit the buy button quick enough. I figured they would say it was a misprint, or they were out of stock, etc. But no, I entered my shipping information, CC#, etc. and the deal went through. I still expected to get an email from them saying it wasn't available, or a mistake, or something else. This was such an excellent deal that the next day, I decided I would order another one as a gift for someone else, but they weren't available on their website anymore! I was just sure that they wouldn't honor the deal, but I watched my credit card and it was charged the $150 in a couple of days and then I got a tracking number from Best Buy. In a few days I had the player in my hot little hands! I still can't believe it! Even now this are selling on the web for over $400. It is a great player and gets used several times a week in an 18-wheeler and never skips no matter how rough the road. I have to say this is about the best deal I've ever gotten!

They said it was postmarked Outside the date range, Tried SEVERAL times to call them, even let the speaker phone do the work, 2 1/2/ hours of listing to they are busy, and someone will be with me shortly
I gave up.

I'll get my Revenge, by pulling off a Super deal, with some rebates, coupons, and something on sale, that I know they will loose money on. Heck even if it's something, I don't need, I'll sell it on fleabay

Brag: Several months ago OfficeMax had several weeks of rebate sales on RITA or RIDEX or some other brand of CDR (the name escapes me at the moment, many apologies).

Anywhoo, it was $20, and then it gave a $20 rebate. However, the packaging had 2 upcs on it. Interesting. Multiple rebates allowed? Yes. Sent them in and got a spindle of cds and $20 profit.

Gotta love officemax when they don's screw your rebates.

1. Advertise 6800GT on your online store at $375 or less.
2. ???
3. Profit!

I've figured out #2: Be out of stock and then jack up the price to MSRP

Brag: Officemax clearance sale, unadvertised. They had a bunch of folders and office supplies for craptacular prices. But tucked in the corner was an heavy duty (aka NOT walmart china made) quality magnetic whiteboard, 3 foot by 4 foot.

Normal price: $140 (and that's about right from what I've seen in other places)
Sale price: $20 plus tax

Moan --

I preordered Doom 3 from bestbuy B&M, and when I go there to pick up they ask me to get on the line where ppl return stuff. That's like the slowest line in the whole freaking store. And there's no way they can ring me up front. If I havent paid 10 bucks for preordering ill just go to the regular register and buy it and get out 20 minutes sooner, in order to get my 10 bucks back for preorder i have to get on the slowest line in the whole store. this sux

crap! i gotta moan on this.

i jumped on the same deal, except that my local OM didn't get the Ritek CDR, so they replaced it with a spindle of Memorex brand.

silly me, knowing that this is a replacement item i didn't ask or anything, and stupidly just send the rebate with the replacement's UPC code, which obviously is not the same as the one written in the offer. and, of course, my rebate got rejected.

i do believe i can just come in and push the manager into giving me a $20 store credit or something, but week after week i'm just too lazy to even do that. well, maybe next week.

Brag: I bought some shoes and socks this last weekend with the while tax free holiday in Texas. Anyway the shoes just didn't fit right and I returned it. Anyway when I walked out the door I realized she refunded the tax (that I never paid) on the shoes which made my socks cost like $2. Heh FYI purposely trying to repliacate this would really be fraud.

BRAG:
This week, CC has WD120gig HD for $39.95 after $80 rebate. I went to a Delaware CC to save money on taxes, and they had none. I ordered one, and the very next day, I received a call from a rep saying that it has arrived. I drove back to the store (from Philadelphia - 30 minutes drive) and the customer serv. rep said there was an error. The truck came, but no shipments of WD120gig HD. They replace it with WD160gig HD on the spot with "instant" $80 rebate, because the the codes on the box will not match the one required for the mail in rebates. So, I got a WD160gig HD for $39.95 out the door!

How funny. I ordered Some Maxtor Hard drives from Office Max like a year ago, and to get the deal I had to order paperclips as well... well I ended up getting 4 seperate deliveries. Two large boxes with expanding air sacks to secure my extremely volitile paperclips, and two regular boxes containing the harddrives.
