With this and still no word on my OfficeMax/Maddog 8x DVD burner rebate, I'm through with fooling with them. :[

My Seagate 160 GB rebate is still cooking. I sent in the required form, UPC, etc. 149 days ago, late August. I got the checks for my 120 and 200 GB drives a couple days ago, sent in at the same time. Presumably, the 160 GB rebate has been approved finally after the ubiquitous gratuitous invalid UPC snafu (twice!).

I called Parago and, after asking what 'Invalidated by Seagate' means, and explaining that I fufilled all the requirements of the rebate (how can you mess up putting three things in an envelope?), the rep said something along the lines of 'Because you're a valued Seagate customer I can do you the one time courtesy of validating the rebate'. The wording is crappy but I'm going to take it as if they are giving me the benefit of the doubt. Still, I'm through with rebates for a while. . .

Got my 3rd and final Seagate HD rebate check yesterday. THAT saga is over. I have to wonder about the quality of the HD's after experiencing first hand just how screwed up the rebate processing is - really awful. I sent them EVERYTHING on August 27th. Got the final check 150 days later.

Warning:
rebateshq.com is now automatically invalidating all rebates, until you call. I received an email yesterday saying that my rebate was accepted. I had to visit the URL, which states:

Status: Invalid
Detail: your UPC is invalid, please send a new copy, blah, blah

So I called 1-888-221-4692, press 0 to get to an operator.

The person told me Since you are a valued customer, we will update this info and send you a check in 6-8 weeks."

I asked him 2X to explain to me what this means, and he had no answer except for restating the same info. Now I looked at the web page it now says

Status: Processing Rebate
Detail: Your rebate is valid ...

Note, this is for $25 MIR with Purchase of 80GB 2MB P-ATA at Fry's Electronics or Outpost.com

MOAN:
I had a cendyne(pioneer) A05 dvd burner. After 6 mos it periodically gave errors in
the middle of a burn, then windows XP would not boot. Disconected dvd drive then
system booted. Two days later I reinstalled the dvd drive again it booted up; but in 20 min,
computer automatically shutdown and kept shutting down Even after I disconected the
dvd drive. Well I ended up replacing motherboard(NF7S ver2) and harddrive which went bad.
Replaced dvd with a NEC 3520A. My videocard: A leadtec ti 4600 is now running extremely hot,
had to jimmy rig a 92mm fan on the heatsink untill I can afford a new card. Cpu temp went from
40*c to 54*c because of the hot air blown directly on it from the vidcard fan. I recently reconnected
that burner to the new setup (yep I'm a glutton for punishment) and of course system woundn't boot.
no damage done. Tested power supply; A OK

I posted this brag here in November of 2003:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've never really liked the customer service at my local CompUSA, so I started shopping at a different store. I bought a clearance Sony 17" CRT monitor for $99 last Monday. I got it home and discovered a screen burn-in image. (The AOL logo!).

I returned it, and the manager approved the substitution of a Viewsonic A70f+, (new in the box), as a replacement, since the Sony's are no longer in stock. I was very pleased, and also surprised to find that I am eligible for a $30 rebate.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, here it is, February of 2005 and the monitor has gone blurry. The warranty on ViewSonic A70f+ is only one year. For some silly reason, it's warranteed for three years OUTSIDE of the United States. (WTF is that all about?). So, not such a hot deal after all.

What puzzles me is the model A70f is warranteed for three years. It seems to be the same monitor except that is is beige, while the A70f+ is silver and black. I contacted ViewSonic, and they said they can do nothing. I will not be buying ViewSonic again.

Update- I pulled the case off and adjusted the focus and screen. It's better, but still not 100%. I'll use it until it completely goes out, then trash it.

new 32" Syntax speakers don't come off..one big molded chunck of plastic..it is a good looking package. But without removable speakers it's application is limited to freestanding and wall mount. Yet the 30" has removable speakers??

Ah... man.... bought a refurbished Dell 500M with a 1.3ghz Pentium-M processor and the motherboard dies after less than 2 weeks of use.

So send it off for repairs and Dell can't even return the laptop with a processor of the same speed. I have to be satisfied with a 1.7ghz Pentiun-M processor.

Poor me!

Huge Brag.

And I am an evil person.

One night a while back, I decided on a whim to visit one of those "hit the zombie, win a free Ipod/computer monitor/747/etc." sites and read the fine print for sh!ts and giggles. So I went to this one site, where I could have my pick of a 17" samsung 710N LCD (my choice... retails for 400ish) or a variety of other LCD/TV products from Sony, Toshiba, etc. I wasn't really interested in trying to get the LCD monitor for free, I just wanted to see what the "catch" was... turns out, as we all know, you have to get a bunch of other people to sign up. I posted something on Craigslist about "a loophole in an online offer" before they started banning the online offer posts. I checked back a month later having forgotten about the whole thing... turns out 8 people had signed up, and my monitor was in the mail.

I was in utter disbelief. $400 Samsung LCD monitor... for nothing. And even the shipping was free.

Now if I can find a SLI-DR motherboard, I could actually use the thing.

Brag from:

this thread

I went in (alone) and grabbed 3 off the shelf
went to the customer service area to pay
asked politely for a price match
clerk said "hang on a sec..." as she went into the office
she came back and said, "we don't price match with Sam's club..."
I said, "well, actually you do..."
handed her the e-mail and explained it
she gave it to the GM who read it, and said, "this person gave you wrong information, we don't PM Sams because you have to be a member there..

..but, we'll do it for you this time!

"thank you very much", I said (OMFGSCORE!! I thought)

She rang them all up at the Sams club price ($79.84)
She asked me if there were any rebates, and I said I wasn't sure, and played it off like was suggested

Total Price for a cumulative 480GB on recipt: $253.89 (after tax)

Rebates $180 ($60x3) I just have to make 3 different copies of recipt and send them in 3 different names/addresses

GRAND TOTAL (assuming rebates work on all of them...)

$73.89 for nearly HALF A TERABYTE!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks OP, and Good luck to everyone

BRAG:

Few months back I recieved a notice of a settlement from a class action lawsuit against Best Buy. This was for current and former employees that worked there during a certain time period, and had to do with a giant list of consisting with Best Buy violating just about every labor law possible. I sent in my form, extremely pleased that I may get up to about $100 or something like that.

Yesterday (having forgotten all about it) I recieved a check for $650.57! Prettty damn awesome.

And for the record, Best Buy did screw me personally, and even though I was only there 4 months, I still don't think it was worth it (not even considering this money now, or the $55 I got last year because they were audited for illeagal break practices).

Well, just a little brag here. Back on Christmas Eve, I won a Dell 8400 w/ a 1905FP display playing the Dellf game. I recieved the machine last month and noticed there was a $250 rebate on the invoice. I filled out the rebate, mailed it in and today I recieved a check from Dell for $250. I love the Dellf!!!

I think I got a pretty good deal. After I bought my dell 1905FP, they sent me a coupon for 20% off any Axim. Just last week they had the Axim x50v for 30% off. Both coupons said they could be combined but when I tried to apply the 20% on top of the 30% the 30% disappeared. So I called CS and they went ahead and took care of it for me. So I got the x50v with:

[*]AXIM X50,624MHZ,3.7VGA,64/128M,COMBO,ENG
[*]USB CABLE/CRADLE,AXIM X50
[*]ADV EXCHANGE,PDA,2YREXT
[*]TECH SPRT,ELECTRN,INIT YR
[*]TECH SPRT,ELECTRN,LIFE
[*]ADV EXCHANGE,PDA,INIT
[*]CC ACC DAM SVC,PDA,3YR
[*]3D GAME CD KIT-BNDL,X50V,TIED
[*]DELL AXIM X50 MINI PRTFLIO
[*]2200MAH SECONDARY BATTERY,AXIM X50
[*]1GB MEM SD CRD,AXIM
[*]GPS NAV SYST W/BT WRLS TECH,AXIM,CUST

Raw price was $1112
-30% -20% should have been $622.72 + tax. (in MI)

Final price after tax = $597

Should have it by next week! Can't wait.
