Looking at LCD televisions I have to ask, anyone know anything about the quality of the Winbook line of LCD tvs?

They seem to have all the features of big name LCD TVs at a much lower price point.

Trying to find who makes their panels.

Fine bunch of people with a killer system.

.....How the Grinch stole Christmas....

Funny, I just placed an order with Buy.com and they shipped part of my order and then said the other part was OOS, even though the page still says that they are in-stock. How dumb

Try reordering. I had an order in for some dvd's... order sits around and then said sent to warehouse for days.

So I cancel... reorder and it ships out next day. Go figure

Brag:

Caught a Dell 600m cheap on Ebay because it had a master password lock (Dell security chip) and shop selling it didn't know how to get around that.

Bought it for about half its regular value ($275), got the Service Tag number and checked with Dell and found it still had a week of warranty on it. Changed ownership via Dell's website and CSR. Called Support. Got master password to unlock it. Used SIW software on one of the accounts on the lappy, and got the serial numbers for installed software (MS Office, etc.). Did a Dell Restore on the thing and got a totally factory fresh XP install. Used serial to activate Office. Voila...

This is weird: I just received in the mail a free Gillette Fusion razor. It was addressed to "The XXX Family" and sent by a regional grocery chain (Bi-Lo).

Did anyone else receive one?

JustDeals.com: Just say no.
I'm just warning AnandTech members away from JustDeals.com. I bought - or thought I bought - an external drive case from JustDeals. The package was missing the USB2 cable and, worse, the half of the power cable that fits into the wall. In short, the unit arrived absolutely unusable. JustDeals.com provided no contact telephone number on their website. I have emailed them six times so far with no firm reply on any ETA of the parts. They provide no last names in their correspondence--always a bad sign. When I have asked for names of supervisors I have been ignored. Their six-month rating at Reseller Ratings is 3.44/10. After examining their website for information, I should have known better. Please don't let my mistake be yours.

SwiftInk ink for my Lexmark color printer did not work! The ink smeared and the text was unreadable. Replaced with OEM from OD and is working fine.

Stay away from SwiftInk if you have a Lexmark.

Hmm, that's unfortunate. I've bought several items from JustDeals over the last couple of years, and all has been well. I guess they've really gone downhill...

A little of both actually, Newegg shafted me on my 7900GTO even though i ordered it when it was still in stock, they refused to give me a replcement based on the performance value of the card Even after promising me the day before they voided my order that i would still be getting a GTO and i ended up with a GB 7900GT. 0 - 1 Newegg

At my surprise after upgrading the cooling on the GB card it runs at near stock GTX speeds Even if it only has 256MB of mem. 1 - 1. Then newegg foolishly sent me a refund check for $260.12 for the GTO 2 days after i got the GT which i didn't hesitate to cash. Take that *****es. 2 - 1F. I win.

I still want a GTO but i might just RMA the 7900GT and get a GTX if i can't get one within the week. I wont be shopping at newegg for a while but at least i'm no where near as pissed as i was the day they shafted me on that card.

Moan:

Lies and more lies from overstock

I placed an order with Overstock on the following item (which was posted over at FW), which has a list price of $1175, and overstock is (or was) selling it at $79 (http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?page=product&prod_id=656984 ). So I placed an order on Nov 3 and it went through without a problem. I figured this item would go out of stock quite fast, so I checked back an hour later, and it was still in stock, surprisingly. They went ahead and charged my credit card, and processed the order.

On Nov 6, I received an e-mail stating: "We have cancelled order #32385*** per your request. You have been credited $*****." The main problem with this e-mail: I never requested my order be cancelled. Lie #1 for Overstock. So, I go to their LiveChat to figure out what happened.

I get on with a representative (who is probably located on the other side of the planet) and first tells me: "...the order was cancelled because when the order was in process the item was out of stock". Lie #2 for Overstock. So I keep going back and forth with the representative, possibly getting him to substitute the item for something that's equivalent (well, only in List Price, not the price Overstock is selling it for), but nothing. After a while, the rep tells me: "We do have the item in stock, however whatever we have is either defective or damage, so we will not be able to ship this to you". Lie #3 for Overstock.

So I had enough with the rep and then a few minutes after I was done chatting with the rep, Overstock leaves me a message on my phone saying, "your order has been cancelled because of 'inventory issues'". What exactly is an "inventory issue"? Lie #4?

I wasn't expecting to get anything out of this, but to lie to me about why my order was cancelled, well, just tells me that Overstock is not the kind of business people should be dealing with. Sure, go ahead and charge my CC for an item that was "out of stock", and then lie to me about why it was cancelled. Had they just said, "sorry, we can't honor this order because we mispriced it" would've been fine. But no, they decided to lie again and again. Sorry Overstock, but you're not getting any business from me ever again.

I posted the entire Live Chat conversation verbatim over at FW (it's kind of long, so I didn't want to repost it here).

BRAG:

I got (or will in a couple of days) this $99.99 CPU for $9.99.

Details in this thread, but the short of it is that I ordered a combo deal from Newegg with a coupon code. The motherboard was OOS (though they still list it in stock  ) so they sent an email saying they're gonna remove the board from my order and deduct the full price. I still get the $55 combo savings and $35 coupon.

I would have liked playing around with that mATX SLI board though.

I'm not sure if this is a brag or moan:

Ordered two Samsung DVDRW drives from Newegg. At the time I ordered the pictures showed a Nero disc and the description under "package contents" stated that Nero was included. I've also ordered this part number before and received Nero on CD. Well, this time I didn't receive Nero. I checked back with them and the last picture showing Nero had been removed. I emailed customer service and got the reply of "What Nero? That product doesn't come with Nero." Guess what? Now the product page "package contents" has been edited and Nero is no longer mentioned. So this part is a moan.

With my complaining though, Newegg is offering me a $10 credit so that "you can go to your local store and purchase software." Well, nice of them to make me such an offer and nice of them to not admit that they changed the product description. Not that I can buy retail packaged CD/DVD burning software for $10, let alone two copies. Still, $5 off per drive is not bad... I guess.

Brag:

Of all things got a stellar deal off of Ebay. Scored on a Koolance exos External water cooling kit. Listed in the wrong section i got it for 105$ the unit was listed as used and likely missing parts. Well, lo and behold it arrives today and not only is this item new and unused, it came complete and packaged with two brand new water blocks Its the older model yes, but has a 250$ compusa pricetag still on it. I got it for about market value, but the two brand new waterblocks really make this deal sweet for me. This unit did not come with a waterblock much less two and I was just about to pick one up for 40$ off the koolance website.

Anyhow, its been awhile since I got more than I was promised off of ebay so Jax is a happy man. Now to see what this opty 165 can really do

MOAN: Come home to find my Xbox 360 hd-dvd had arrived. I plug it in, 360 gets instant red ring of death. MS tech support takes 30 minutes to connect ... to India. CSR barely speaks English, takes another hour to get through script.

BRAG: MS will repair for free because my 360 was made 12/12/05. CSR, while unable to understand most of what I was saying, was rather pleasant.

Moan: Ordered 2 Yate Loon fans (w/the B2G1F offer) from nexfan.com on 11/10/06 and they STILL haven't shipped yet. No one has contacted me about my order, either. Funny then, that on their 'about us' page it says: "We ship packages within 24 hrs. of receiving your order (Monday~Friday)"

The Samsung drive I recieved last month came with a Samsung CD that did include Nero. It's the same version that was on a separate disk for my Lite-On drive.

MOAN: BF moanage here - Just got back from Staples looking for the Netgear Rangemax router for $20 AR and got to the store at 6:30. The aisle was full by then, so I had to 'scuse me at every step. I saw a guy holding one and he told me where they were on the shelf, with the caveat that only one was left a while ago. I found the empty shelf and a lady said "oh, some guy just got the last one". I gave up and grabbed a regular 54G unit for $40 and got in line. The guy behind me asked a store clerk to look for him and damned if he didn't find it ! The last one was shoved to the back of the shelf and my lazy @ss didn't stoop over to check on it. ARGHH !!!!

Thinking of taking the 54G back since it wasn't a good deal by AT:HD standards.

Brag,
Got a 7600GT at CC, went into my local store ten minutes before closing time because it showed in-stock online. None to be found though on the floor. Went to the kiosk and checked stock online again and it still said in-stock. Bought it over the kiosk and went outside for a bit to give them time to find them as they usually have the secret stash in the back
Walked in, handed them the 40$ off coupon and viola. Cheap decent card (AR of course)
Worked out to be 159 W/40 off coupon, 110$ in rebates = 49.99

BRAG (!)

First:

Is there a thread for Black Friday brag/moan especially?

That asked:

Location : Millbury, MA Circuit City
Product : HP Compaq C303NR Notebook
Price : $99.99 after $100 Compaq MIR and 12-month subscription to Vonage VOIP Phone Service @ minimum $14.99/mo, several Vonage MIRs required.
Availability : Flyer read '18 minimum per store'

Story: Got to CC at approximately 10:30 PM EST Thanksgiving Night, about 18 people in front of me. Only 3 or 4 people after me were able to get one.
Irk: Not for me, but for the 200 people behind those folks: Message received from CC staff at 4AM or so was that there were 'significantly more' notebooks than posted in the ad; We dutifully passed that information down the line to the folks behind us. It was only after vouchers for the notebooks were passed out by CC staff that we learned that there actually were only 20 to go around. The cynical part of me says that CC did this deliberately to 'calm the crowd'.

Just my $0.02 US,

SB

P.S. This was my first Black Friday 'camping' experience. I'd do it again. Things were remarkably calm (at least at the front of the line).
