Minor Moan:

No Fry's LA newspaper ads on the web on weekends.

Fry's Ads are nowhere to be found on the weekends. OC Register got lazy last November. The last couple of weeks, nothing at all from the LA Times. OC Register does put the Saturday, Sunday and Monday ads up when they get around to it on Monday. Drive into town and buy the rag? no thanks

Moan: spent the last hour trying to find a vendor that has at least 2 of the 4 parts I need to finish the new build: Intel 4300, Gigabyte DS3 v.3.3, evga 7900GS and either the Sony/NEC Optiarc 7170S or Pioneer DVR-212. Mwave has the best price for the CPU, ClubIT for the mobo, newegg/chiefvalue for the video card and ewiz on the burner (most places are sold out).

That's going to be $25 extra on shipping, having to piece everything together from different stores. bah.

Moan: What's with Newegg's shipping? I ordered stuff from them Friday night with 3 business day shipping. Let's see that's Monday the 23rd, Tuesday the 24th and Wednesday the 25th. But my tracking number says it's not supposed to arrive until Thursday the 26th. Not a huge deal, but 3 days is 3 days.

It would be three business days starting the day they ship it. Since you didn't order early enough on Friday, then Monday is the starting point so three days later would be Thursday.

Any clue what time they consider early enough? I ordered at about 8 PM central, just after the Intel cuts. My guess is by 5 PM pacific?

Moan: I don't think I will ever buy an Asus motherboard again. I had a K8V Deluxe that suddenly died on me in Dec 2004 right when the first SLI boards were arriving (the K8V was less than a year old), and I opted to give Asus another try (they DO get awesome reviews consistently, after all) and picked up an A8N-SLI Deluxe, think it was the only SLI board you could buy at the time. Anyhow, the chipset fan failed (just like every other A8N's chipset fan did that was that old) a few months after I bought it... so rather than send it out to Asus for an RMA, I replaced the chipset fan with the zalman passive cooler. It was also much quieter than that extremely loud chipset fan.

After one of my BFG video cards died (I'll save that story for another post) I shipped the board to Asus to have one of the newer, better chipset fans installed on the unit (and to have them test it to make sure it wasn't the cause of my video card failure). That happened around Nov 06. All was well until a couple weeks ago. In the middle of queueing a winamp playlist, I lost video. After testing every component, I decided to RMA my motherboard to Asus. They ended up replacing the board with a new one (evidenced by the new serial number in my RMA info) and notified me that they shipped it back. They did NOT provide any carrier information or tracking number... and my e-mails to their RMA department went unanswered (I'd call but my phone reception sucks, I'm surprised it didn't cut out while I called for the RMA).

On top of all that, I'm totally fed up with their website, how impossible it is to navigate, and how slow the download speeds are (and half the time they freeze while you're in the middle of a download).

No more Asus for me, positive reviews be damned. My next motherboard will be eVGA, as I've heard lots of good things about their customer service, and their new 680i boards seem to be very decent.

MOAN!

Boycotting NewEgg!

My wife and I purchased XP Pro w/Express Upgrade to Vista Business last December 4 and submitted all the required stuff in early January. When things bogged down and staid stuck in the process, I contacted all the involved parties, M$, Moduslink and the company who received our money, NewEgg. I've gone up the chain repeatedly and still...no Vista Business.
NewEgg in particular has been frustrating as hell. They continue to fail to address the issue or do what they say they promise they'll do. In simple words...the Egg's customer service department has fallen limp on the job and refuse to get it up...do your own viagra joke here. These guys are piss poor CS IMHO...and that's coming from soneone who used to rave about their CS...but then they became the internet BIG BOX site and forgot what got them there...customer service!!!!

So until we receive our copy of Vista Business, the Egg gets absolutely no further orders from us.

I've ordered and received all the components for my new system and absolutely none of them came from NewEgg.
Here's the pleasant surprise I got from the suppliers I did order my parts from
1) Delivery was nice and quick from all as well as free or less expensive than NewEgg
2) CS at the two it was needed was better and quicker than NewEgg
3) Bottom line price blew NewEgg out...in a significant way
4) selection and availability...beat the Egg on both

So who got my business that NewEgg gave away?
Mwave, Frys, Jab-Tech...and even Buy.com(actually got free overnight delivery on the Buy.com vid card)

Brag - I think I did pretty well getting an 8800 GTS 320 for $140 through stepping up.

Moan - I got royally screwed on 2 gigs of DDR2 1000 paid 230 for it, but now I see them for like 160 or less.

I ordered an sd card reader from these guys that didn't work. They don't answer the phone and responded to emails requesting an rma number with crap about faxing a bunch of stuff to them. Now of course, it has been past 90 days, so no RMA.
Other companies I have dealt with have easy RMA procedures and have had no problems.
This company has the worst customer service, stay far away.

Don't Shop @ EWIZ.com!!!

ordered an Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W power supply from them that was D.O.A.
That might happen to anybody I know, tho i've never got a dead one b4.
Sent it back the next day Priority mail U.S. Postal Service. (paid extra for that)
Waited another week and no word. e-mailed and got some generic reply.
finally got through on the phone line, (it's there, you just have to find it), and some
women at (don't need any) customer service says yes they got it and they sent it back
to the factory. OK, what about me and my system that I was trying to build back in April?
"You'll have to wait until it gets back."
Is it me or does this just sound stupid to any other rational person?
I asked if that was the only one in stock or what? "No, but it's the one you bought."
We'll I really need to get this system built, how about you refunding my money?
They said they will do that, but... they would not credit any of the $12.72 that I spent for
shipping originally or the money it cost to ship it back to them.

If you buy from them, good luck and I hope you never have any problems.

Is onrebate the absolute worst rebate house in existence or am I just unlucky?
A $20 rebate for a Nec 3550A I purchased last summer from TD was accepted into their system on August 31st 2006. Nine months later and I'm still waiting. I send them an email every few weeks and am told I will be receiving my rebate payment in 7-10 business days.
That time comes and goes without receiving a thing. I'm getting tired of their incompetence.

Brag: I have spent about $2000 at staples. After coupons, pricematches, and rebates, they have paid me back more.

Moan: FVKING SHOP4TECH!!! NEVER EVER SHOP THERE!!! They are a scam and a huge ripoff. Customer service is incredibly rude and unhelpful. I tried their so-called referral program but they have tried 5 different ways to weasel out of paying me back. Plus their shipping takes forever (2-3 weeks).

I've never had any problems with onrebate. However, with all the rebate companies you may have to wait a little while... which can be frustrating if you have a lot tied up in rebates

You should never wait that long for a rebate. Either someone hasn't been paying the bills or your rebate is stuck in processing hell. If you wait any longer, you might miss out all together.

The FTC just fined Soyo for taking too long to pay on rebates. Open a complaint with the FTC and when you get the email confirmation with a case number, fax a letter to the manufacturer, the rebate processor, and TD.

My experience with OnRebate has been very positive. Something is wrong with that program and you need to jump on it now! And never, ever let another rebate go so long without making a formal complaint.

I am so low on money, I could never imagine buying a 2nd DVDR w/HDD... but leave it to Walmart!

I go into buy a $10 tracfone card and I end up leaving with a $298 Philips DVDR3455 DVDR w/160GB HDD for....

FIFTY DOLLARS!

They were selling off all their display models.

I think this was mind boggling deal!

I hate Buy.com. Ordered 19" lcd monitor they have on sale, with free shipping. Was listed as IN STOCK when I ordered it. Order seemed to be processing ok, then yesterday I get email saying the item is on backorder, and they don't know when it is due in. I called an asked why it was still listed as IN STOCK, and they said they only update online inventory status once every 24 hours. It has been 3 days now, and the item is still being listed as IN STOCK on their website. Looking at them on resellerratings.com, they have obviously done this to several other customers recently, with their 6 month rating dropping low into the 2s. Wish I would have checked before I tried to buy something from them. I always thought buy.com was a respectable company.

Ordered an antec nine hundred ONLINE a few weeks ago for $89.

Today I get an email advertising it ONLINE for $69.

I call up for price match and they say they don't price match themselves.

But 30 day satisfaction guarantee? SO I said, "I can box this case up and ship it back to you, then buy the same thing for $20 less, and that's ok? You can't just save us both the hassle and refund the difference?"

"Yes, would you like an RMA number?"
