Moan:
Lies and more lies from overstock
I placed an order with Overstock on the following item (which was posted over at FW), which has a list price of $1175, and overstock is (or was) selling it at $79 (
http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?page=product&prod_id=656984 ). So I placed an order on Nov 3 and it went through without a problem. I figured this item would go out of stock quite fast, so I checked back an hour later, and it was still in stock, surprisingly. They went ahead and charged my credit card, and processed the order.
On Nov 6, I received an e-mail stating: "We have cancelled order #32385*** per your request. You have been credited $*****." The main problem with this e-mail: I never requested my order be cancelled. Lie #1 for Overstock. So, I go to their LiveChat to figure out what happened.
I get on with a representative (who is probably located on the other side of the planet) and first tells me: "...the order was cancelled because when the order was in process the item was out of stock". Lie #2 for Overstock. So I keep going back and forth with the representative, possibly getting him to substitute the item for something that's equivalent (well, only in List Price, not the price Overstock is selling it for), but nothing. After a while, the rep tells me: "We do have the item in stock, however whatever we have is either defective or damage, so we will not be able to ship this to you". Lie #3 for Overstock.
So I had enough with the rep and then a few minutes after I was done chatting with the rep, Overstock leaves me a message on my phone saying, "your order has been cancelled because of 'inventory issues'". What exactly is an "inventory issue"? Lie #4?
I wasn't expecting to get anything out of this, but to lie to me about why my order was cancelled, well, just tells me that Overstock is not the kind of business people should be dealing with. Sure, go ahead and charge my CC for an item that was "out of stock", and then lie to me about why it was cancelled. Had they just said, "sorry, we can't honor this order because we mispriced it" would've been fine. But no, they decided to lie again and again. Sorry Overstock, but you're not getting any business from me ever again.
I posted the entire Live Chat conversation verbatim over at FW (it's kind of long, so I didn't want to repost it here).
