WT, don't feel bad about that router. If that unit is a Linksys 54G, you might still be able to flash it with a cool Linux firmware. Here is the link: http://www.dd-wrt.com

I personally like Buffalo routers - they work and get flashed great.

I got to a local Target yesterday at 4am and got in the line just before 5. The manager came out at 6 and handed out a ticket to the first 39 people in line that was good for one Wii when the store opened at 8am. On a whim, I then drove to the next closest Target to see how the line was and there were only three people in line! I got in line and at 7am the manager gave out a ticket for the 18 Wiis that they had. I ended up with TWO Wiis!!! I rock!!!

More moaning about my xbox360:

Idiot CSR told me a "box" was coming for me to send it back in. No such box arrived. I call back up and spend another hour while they figure out what's going on. Finally cancel the order and tell me to call back and reorder my "box".

Call back, another 1 hour wait, and FINALLY .... FINALLY they get it right. 4 days later, I get my box, 3 days later they have got my broken Xbox.

Wow, Microsoft, that only took a month.

Now I wonder how long until I actually get a repaired one back.

B**ch and Moan:

11 days ago ordered a Viewsonic LCD Monitor from Dell...I check last night on Dell.com and it sez my order is CANCELED. I received NO notification from Dell via phone or email (which are both correct). I will not order from those wankers again, as this is the second order I have place with them in 2 years, and both were disasters. Dell sux.

Buy.com and Google Checkout. I will be sad to see this promo end.

For $210.65 after MIRs ($260.65 before MIRs) , I have purchased the following from Buy.com?I estimated that if I paid retail prices locally for all these items, I came out with roughly 50% off everything listed and probably closer to 60% off when you consider taxes.

1) Batman Begins (Widescreen)
2) Superman Returns (Widescreen)
Sad thing is I returned the FS version of Superman (Christmas present?thanks Dad!) to Wal-Mart for $21.50 cash and both of these movies ran just a little over $22 with GCO.
3) Kingston 1GB Data Traveler USB 2.0 Flash Drive
4) Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
5) Final Fantasy XII
6) Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Card (SD)
7) Kingston 2GB Secure Digital Card (SD)
8) Cool Stuff and How It Works ? Book
9) Final Fantasy XII Signature Series Guide
10) Diablotek Deluxe LED 3.5 USB 2.0 Black Aluminum Enclosure
Got this to enclose the 200GB Maxtor drive I got on Black Friday for $20 after MIR.
11) XFX USB PC Playstation 2 Game Controller Dual Reflex GamePad
12) Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King Official Strategy Guide
13) Xenosaga Episode II Jenseits Von Gut Und Bose Official Strategy Guide

Once the Google Checkout promo is done, I'm sure I'll be done with Buy.com once again. Out of 9 orders they've managed to mess up 2. 78% satisfaction doesn't get my business back. However, the prices with GC are just too good to pass up. I've had a lot of deals where I would buy one item that is dirt cheap after MIR (around $30 before MIR), and then add fillers of books and movies I've been wanting to get the $20 off of $50 promo. I do have to admit that the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer for $50 after GC with no rebates was a Godsend, as my X-fi ExtremeMusic bit the dust 1month outside of the 1year warranty recently and I missed it dearly.

My gripes so far...

1) Ordered Final Fantasy XII using GC and they overcharged me in the amount of $1.98. Item hadn't shipped for 2weeks (how many copies of this game have been stamped? I'm sorry, but it's ridiculous to run out of copyable media) while I tried to get them to credit me by email requests. When I was finally fed up and said cancel the order; it magically shipped late the next day and I got an email saying they couldn't fulfill the cancellation shortly after the "your item has shipped" email.

2) Ordered a 2GB Kingston SD card and received a 1GB Kingston USB thumb drive. Took about 2-3weeks to get the label, shipped back, and return shipment.

people should stop posting buy.com deals that are mediocre, this forum is being littered by those posts and they are really mediocre! i mean if you know to check here, you would know how to get buy.com deals readily and easily.

Agreed. It's nice to know when something is free or almost free after rebate and GCO, but sometimes Buy.com is about $20 more than anybody else, so the deal isn't that hot. A lot of those get posted.

I haven't kept up too much with this years deals but I did score last night with a bunch of people over at chubby's. Sandisk Sansa E270 6GB player for $99 at Amazon. Not exactly sure why they had the 6GB version that low because most retailers are selling them for $175+. Some people were worried it was a price mistake but mine shows that it has shipped and will arrive here tomorrow. Some people have still scored throughout the day as Amazon keeps changing their prices. One minute it's $99 and the next it's $179. I think it's now currently $156 last time I checked.

Another Amazon price change got me a Sound Blaster X-FI Platinum for $139.98 (-50.00 MIR) for a total of $89.98 after rebate. Currently, it's $169.99. Only saw it for a short while and thought I should jump on it. Amazon confirmed shipment yesterday.

Ordered a 2gb CF card from Newegg on Dec. 17th and used PayPal for the free shipping offer. On the evening of Dec 21st I received an email from Newegg notifying me thay they had voided my order placed 4 days earlier because:

"We were unable to secure the required funds from your PayPal account. This order has been void as a result. If you would still like to purchase this merchandise, please re-submit the order after rectifying any issues with your PayPal account."

There is nothing wrong with my PayPal account and PayPal shows no record of having refused any payment requests. Also, I have made other purchases since Dec. 17 with my PayPal account without incident.

My guess is that for some reason Newegg delayed processing my order for 4 days which was exactly 2 days past the Dec. 19th deadline for the free shipping offer from PayPal. When they finally attempted to collect the payment for the delayed shipment it was rejected by PayPal because the deadline had passed for the shipping promo.

I've been a Newegg customer for nearly 5 years and I've never placed an order that wasn't shipped within 24 hours. Newegg apparently screwed-up this particular order and should have acknowledged as much instead shifting the blame to me. I found this treatment annoying and I wonder if anyone else had a similar experience.

Moan:

Buy.com + GCO = nightmare if you ever need to return the item!

First, your GCO order won't show up on buy.com order status -> unable to use buy.com easy return process
2nd, GCO forwards the email to buy.com - but in my case, buy.com seemed to "filter" Google's email?

I'm moving into a new place and I wanted to order Verizon FIOS internet. I checked last week and the prices were $35-$45 for 6M-15M, with an intro rate of $10 off the first 3 months of the $45 service. Then I went back to order today, and the prices went up $5 and no special intro offer. Still not a bad deal, but no way to get the old price. :-(

2 weeks ago I ordered item with 2 rebates on the first day of the offer at buy.com but the order still hasn't shipped. Buy.com tells me the item is temporarily out of stock. So, meantime the clock is ticking on my rebate eligibility!

Details:

Buy.com sends me emails regularly plugging offers and I got one on 12/21/2006 that attracted my attention and I started a thread in this forum:

2 GB USB 2.0 Flash drive $7 after Google CO

After several people posted I decided to go for the deal, which involved two rebates. So, I ordered on the first day the deal was offered, 12/21/2006. The PDF rebate forms state that you have to mail in your applications for the rebates within 30 days of your order, so for me the deadline is January 20, 2006.

Today makes 2 weeks since the order date and it's not shipped. I contacted Buy.com and they said "We apologize that the delivery of your order is taking longer than expected. Due to a setback from the manufacturer, item #202426782 on your order is temporarily sold out."

I have the option to cancel, but I like the deal so long as I get my rebates. Can Buy.com and/or the manufacturer be reasonably expected to extend the rebate deadlines in view of the inexplicable and uncalled for delay in shipping? After all, I ordered on the first day and if it was sold out I should have been so informed. So far, my inquiries about these issues have only gotten me boilerplate back about the "setback." On top of that, since I ordered through Google Checkout, my credit card has already been charged. Any concepts concerning what I should or might do in that circumstance? Thanks!

You a bad man. That's pretty impressive.

I do have my T60 Thinkpad from Lenovo's holiday sale. Should receive my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wireless router tomorrow, but may have to cancel my 2 GB flash drive because Buy.com looks like they won't come through before the rebate expires, the bastids (I ordered on the first day, sheesh).

Ha! Just got an email from Buy.com that my order is on its way. Maybe the 4 or 5 emails/online contacts I sent them in the last 24 hours did the trick. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!"

I picked up a KitchenAid 7-Quart Slow Cooker and a KitchenAid Hand Blender for $110 at Amazon. The slow cooker is usually $130 by itself, and the hand blender is usually $50. Two excellent sale prices combined with a $25 off of $125 coupon made for a great deal.

Brag, or rather gloat

Got inks for my R220, nice little photo/disc printer from Epson. Staples wanted $81.24 for a full cartridge set (6 colors). With Swiftink (see sticky in Hot Deals), I got TWO sets of each cartridge for $43.04 shipped (free shipping over $50 plus 30% off code posted in Hot Deals). I used to buy these inks for my R200 before it got damaged when I was moving, great quality. Yay!

Update on my Verizon FIOS. I ordered it at the new price, $39.99/month for the lowest speed. Then a week later I went back to Verizon's webpage and saw they're offering a $100 reward card with new orders. I called customer service trying to get that offer for my order. I got bounced around *a lot* of phone menus, but finally got someone in billing. She couldn't apply the offer to my order, but did offer me $100 credit on my account. ka-ching!
