Hi all,
I know this is a very popular place (NE) but it ain't all good over there.
Also this was not my first 1GHz chip, but still... Pisses ya off.
Fed Ex just dropped off my order from NEWEGG... Opened the box, first thing noticed is a blob of sticky residue on one of the corners of the core.
So out comes the magnifying glass. This chip must've been someones return.
It's an oem 1.0/266 so it only comes in a lil plastic thingy so the pins don't squash. AVIA btw.
[MOAN] My gripe is I can clearly see smudge marks etc. on and around the bridges area...
L1's are cut. Could I be imagining eraser marks? [/MOAN] End rant. hehe
Oh yeah, I called them immediately... they agreed to replace it, RMA is being e-mailed to me blah, blah, blah... but wtf I still have to go for $hipping back to them and wait another week or so...
I wanted to at least try it out but passed, coz maybe the corners are soft, brittle or cracked underneath that blob of gunk.
Prolly should've bought a retail box. But so many were scoring a hot deal i rolled the dice.
Oh well on to the next hot deal.
late.
update:
Another sh*tty thing bout Newegg is when you RMA anything or are involved in a return, an exchange and or replacment, regardless of fault, Your guarrantee/warranty is running while in transit... The RMA does not extend or put on hold the refund period.
edit: <snip>
Your 30 day refund period will still end on the 30th day from the original invoice day, regardless of RMA issue
update2:
Short and sweet, as this rant is getting kinda long.
NewEgg replaced the used cpu they first sent me with a brand spanking new (stickers and all) AXIA stepping A1000AMT3C 0114 MPMW K007460043 chip!
The gooey stuff on the original one turned out to be phase change material from the previous HSF's TIM. I am VERY satisfied with the way and in the timely manner they responded to my complaint, hopefully this was an isolated incident.
Newegg is officially out of the Doghouse as far as I'm concered!
$127.00 worth of power
1.0/266 oem cpu from newegg
default voltage | first boot
HSF GW FOP38 7000RPM fan, using the stock TIM.
