The Viking rep was extremely rude when I told her it had been 12 weeks since I submitted my rebate (I'm always polite, however). She told me that it went out 12/1. When I told her that it is now 12/10 and my rebate still hasn't arrived she said I have to wait 60 days for them to send me a new rebate check. WTF is that? Just cancel the bloody check and send a new one.

The OD rep was polite and courteous. I at least appreciate this, but I don't appreciate waiting 12+ weeks for my check. It also went out 12/1, but went out "bulk mail" which means I should allow 15 business days for delivery (what the hell could take so long?)

Fuji has "lost" BOTH of my rebates, submitted at different times for different offers. I faxed them copies of my rebate form, receipt, and UPC over 3 weeks ago. When I called this time, they said they had spelled my name wrong and that it will go out this week or next week. I have a feeling I'll be calling again. They also "lost" my second rebate submission (different offer, mind you) which I'll have to fax in today. The rep online said it would be a couple weeks after he approved it, but couldn't give me a clear date. I'll be calling in another 2-3 weeks, no doubt. What a nightmare! I'd had nothing but good luck with rebates prior to these.

Moral of the story: keep a record of EVERYTHING and stick to your guns! I'm going after the manager next time I call these places.

Agreed. Fuji's in the crap house in my books now. I'm still waiting on two rebates from August. I haven't got around to calling them yet but will try to do so today.

**UPDATE** BLOCKBUSTER MADE IT RIGHT WITH ME!!!

I just got a call from the local manager and they credited my account for the $5. They originally participated in the program, but they had a problem with it. They rent VHS for $0.99. People were renting 5 VHS for $4.95, and getting a $5.00 gift card. And they were coming in every day. They had to discontinue participation because of the situation. Apparently, other parts of the country rent VHS for $2. Anyway, I sent an edited version of the original complaint below to blockbuster.com and it made it's way back to my local manager.

BLOCKBUSTER has regained favor with me.

--- original moaning below---

BLOCKBUSTER has a "frequent flyer" club called BLOCKBUSTER REWARDS. Members ($10/year I think) get a free video every month after 5 rentals, and they send you a coupon for rent one/get one free every month.

Anyway, the latest mailing indicated that there were mulitple ways for REWARD members to get a $5 gift card. One of the ways was to rent 5 DVDs at once. So here is the deal: I rent 5 DVDs at once, I get a free rental (and it can be a new release!) and a $5 gift card! Too sweet!

So last night I go to our local BLOCKBUSTER. I spot the poster advertising the $5 gift cards on the wall. WTF? 2" wide swathes of white tape cover over sections of the poster... including the part where renting 5 DVDs at once results in a $5 gift card. Appears my local BLOCKBUSTER opted out of participating in this particular advertised special.

Now that burns my ass. How can a national chain franchise shop opt out of an advertised special, when the mother company sent me the advertisement to my mailbox? Both me and that damn store have the same zip code. I'm going to complain to BLOCKBUSTER. Local stores shouldn't be able to simply not participate in an advertised special, especially when that ad reaches their clientele directly. I honestly was not planning on going to BLOCKBUSTER last night except for that special. :|

The rewards club is still worth it, and you get a $5 GC just for signing up. If you live near a Consolidated Theatres movie theater, they're running some kind of promotion right now, dunno what it's about... but they give out scratch-off tix at the concessions counters for blockbuster stuff. I know someone who works there that gave me a stack of them (so many it's been a week and I still haven't scratched them all off) and I've gotten around 10 free 1-week rentals, 25 or so rent-1-get-a-1-week-rental-free's, and a bunch of rent-2-get-a-1-week-rental-free's. But anyway, back to the point. I had a rent-1-get-1 with me when I went to blockbuster to renew my rewards, and got 2 movies (one from the $5 gc, then the rent-1-get-1) for $10 plus a renewed membership... Definitely worth it.

(OT: Am I allowed to sell coupons?)

I went to Best Buy a couple of weeks ago to look at some DVD burners (it was on 12/12/03 I believe). I saw a price tag for 64.99 and about 4 Memorex Dual Format DVD Burners above the tag on the shelf. I was like WHOA but when I looked, the tag was for a 16x DVD-ROM drive so I was rather disappointed... Now a little off the point, but necessary to the story, you must know that I work at CompUSA as a cashier. When there is a tag wrong for an item and if you get the right manager, they will change the price of the item to the one on the tag. I thought what the heck and took up the drive to the cashier. She rang it out and it came up as 149.99 and I told her the tag said 64.99 back on the shelf. She requested to have a sales associate get the tag for me and bring it up to her, so I proceeded to do so. I asked a guy stocking stuff back there what was up with the drive, and he said he didn't know why it was ringing up so much. He gave me the tag and I took it up to the cashier. After trying to find a 'model number' on the drive and not being able to do so, she called another cashier over and they both looked at the tag and the burner. After what seemed like forever, he said to just change the price because a salesperson gave me the tag. With tax on the 64.99 changed price it came to 69 something and I was thoroughly excited! Oh yeah, there's also a 20$ MIR on the drive, so all-in-all, I got one of the Memorex Dual DVD Format drives for 50 bucks AR! Sweet huh!

Wow! I think that's about the best "hot deal" I've seen posted here, not for the price, but simply getting a local store mgr to charge the price on the tag, for a mis-stocked shelf item. I see those all the time at my local stores, I guess they're either lazy or overworked, probably the latter, given how busy this area is for shopping centers, and being the x-mas season and all. (I'll forgive them for that. I felt bad for some of the workers at the mall, they have to clean the place all day, and even on Sunday, the mall stayed open until 11pm. Unreal! Those poor people don't get much time off at all on the weekends, to be with their family, etc., during the holiday season. )

It seems as if they make the price difference up on me lol. When people get awesome deals I always get the bad end of the stick when, typically when it comes to rebates. I think for every price mistake they have they don't send out 2 rebates lol.

Not that anyone ever reads this thread, but...

I'm registered with Fidelity Investments online, and they sent me an email offering Turbotax 2004 for free. I signed up for it, and got a confirmation email from Intuit. I'll just wait awhile to install it just in case their special copy protection rears its ugly head again.

i dont understand why i cant post coupon numbers here. I must be missing something, since it is a number, put on the internet, for people to use. Why is it taboo to post that number. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad revenue are lost by some fat kid posting a few digit instead of everyone searching for it which takes 5 seconds. If what I did was wrong, why do they let anyone who stumbles apon it see the code? I guess I'm just missing the big picture or something. I am sorry for breaking the forum rules, and I dont join forums because I cant remember rules since they always impeed the nature of the forum itself and I break them. So, #1 I'm sorry and #2 Why should people not post the coupy digits?

I order an Antec Sonata case for $119.99 with $40 MIR on 1/9/2004. The item is backordered and still has not shipped, and 1/9/2004 is the last day I can buy the item for the MIR.

I call my local Best Buy last night to see if they have any in stock. They have 2 in stock, and I ask if I can pick it up at the store. They say no.

I check online at BestBuy.com and it says I can pick it up in-store if I call a number. I get some lady on the phone and she asks me my zip code, and says that there are no stores near me that have the item in stock so in-store pick-up is impossible. Plus, if I DO pick it up in-store, I will pay a different price than if I were to wait indefinitely for the online order.

cliff notes: item I ordered a week ago doesn't arrive and I can't pick it up at the store for the price I ordered it. Customer Service lady says there are no items in stock at store, store itself says it has 2.

On 11-30-03 I purchased a Minolta 2300w color laser printer from Staples. I applied 3 coupons ($80 total) and used 2 gift cards ($272.00 total) with the balance paid by cc. Rebateshq had four $200 rebates listed on this item. Many people on another board were screaming how there was no way Rebateshq would pay all 4 rebates.

Little did they know since I've already rec'd 1 of the rebate checks and the other 3 are showing "valid in the final stages of processing"

It gets alittle better as on 12-6-03, Staples had a 12% customer appreciation coupon. The Mgr did a return rebuy for me so I could apply the add'l coupon and when he does this, he always returns the item at full price. So I actually rec'd $164.00 in coupon credit towards the printer!

I accidently went to Office Depot for an Office Max ad for the Canon SD100 with free battery and 128mb cf card for 299.99. They couldnt pm me the same deal since they didnt offer the Canon SD100 so instead gave me the Canon A80 with 128 mb CF card for 299.99. I'm so happy.

I have to brag about a Newegg refurb deal.

Last week I stumbled into Newegg right when they were updating the refurbs. I checked video cards and saw a PNY Nvidia FX5600 256MB card for $5. Free shipping, no tax. I jumped all over this, figuring maybe it was paperweight quality, but worth a small gamble. I got the card today and I think it is brand new OEM. It isn't in a box, but inside a shrink wrap OEM setup. The card works beautiful, and just as cool, it includes all accessories, including: Tom Clancy 3 disk Splinter Cell game; DVI to VGA adapter; driver disk and manual; and, finally, a S-video cable. For me this is the deal of the century. Handily beats my Radeon 9000 in most aspects.

At this same time I bought a Western Digital 80GB external drive for $75 with free shipping. Maybe not the best deal, but not bad, and this thing is brand new, never even been opened.

Go Newegg refurbs. It doesn't hurt to gamble on these refurbs.

I just priced this same exact card on Pricewatch. The cheapest I could find was $176. A couple of places had it for over $200.

After further investigation, the Western Digital external is a refurb direct from WD. It appears Newegg sent it in for service and when they got the return, they didn't even open the box, just dropped into the refurb. So in my opinion, it is almost new.

Just got a dell 400sc with all the basics - $299 after rebate. Ok, no big deal. However, when I opened the box I found that the machine was configured with the 20/40gig tape drive option. Bonus!
