Had a couple hours off today, so I visited the Nissan, Mazda and Infiniti dealers. Got sign off for a Kenneth Cole Watch, $35 Internet GC and a Palm m100. And I didn't have to drive a single car!. Nissan and Mazda are next door to each other at the motor mall...very convenient. Thanks to all who posted test drive offers in the last month...

Crap USA ripped me off for a Teac $50 rebate, never notified me of the denial, and now refuses to do anything about it. If you've been ripped off by Comp USA's rebates, file a complaint with the FTC link for filing is on the bottom left "file a complaint" of the web page.

The guy that handles problems with rebates is Joe Alvarez 1-800-crap-usa (oops, meant to say 1-800-COMPUSA (266-7872), extention 3758.

The FTC can fine for violations, go get em...

Just came back from Staples where I scored a very good deal on the remainder rack.

Picked up a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse for $10.00 each. I
didn't go there to buy this but just couldn't resist at this price.

Moan:

Had to make several calls re my RK-Byte rebate since April. Finally got word tonight that check was cut on 11/20/01. Now 12/04/01. How long
does it take for a check to arrive?
Also got word today that my $30.00 rebate from HP is also on its way.

When these come I will have most of my outstanding rebates.

I photocopy all my rebates and track them. Don't be afraid to complain when they don't arrive.

Got Office Depot coupon for buy one get one free copy paper (box of 10 reams of 500=5000) for about $29, added a prepaid TracFone card $20, and 3 pens for $1.50. Used $15 off $50 and got everything for about $38, and there is a rebate on the pens for $1.50. More than $45 off not including tax. Sweet!

Minor Moan:

CompUSA had the pricing error on Shadows of Luclin about half-a-year ago. I ordered 10 of them (for $0.88 each). Now, the order is processed, shows the right number of copies, and it's been sent.... except that they charged me the full game price. Now, I have to wait for my package to arrive, then call them and argue about that - or go through the hassle of disputing charges.

I wouldn't mind if order got cancelled (it is their pricing error and it is up to them to honor it or not), but they aren't supposed to charge me different price than is shown in my order.

Big-Time Braggin'

I've been silently following this "Hot Deals" forum for awhile now, and I just got such a great deal that I just had to register and post it.

I walked into my local CompUSA, and noticed a Compaq iPAQ 3635 in their clearance (demo) rack. Knowing (thanks to this forum) that Compaq has a $150.00 rebate on these suckers, I wheeled-and-dealed with them, finally buying it for $275, with them throwing in the 2-year replacement warranty for free. Now, this package included the Compact Flash Adaptor (CFA), but was missing the software and stylus. No biggie, either way. However, when I got home, and charged the battery, I found out that the sound was not working on the iPAQ. So... I took it back, and they replaced it (because of that free replacement warranty). They didn't have a 3635 however, since it's a closeout item, so they replaced it with the "comparable" model, the 3765 (which has double the memory, or 64MB). Since the new one didn't come with the CFA, they let me keep that, and they rang up the new iPAQ with a new 2-Year warranty!!!

So, here's the bottom line. A brand new iPAQ 3765, including a CFA and a 2-year replacement warranty for $275, minus the $150 I'll get from the rebate I sent in on the 3635 (before I took it back). All in all, I got this sucker for $125 (plus tax). WooHoo!!!

Oh guys I hope you all are sitting down. A friend of mine won/bought 2 elcheapo VCR's on UBID.com. Well when they showed up they were 2 Sony SDM-N50 LCD monitors!!! She paid just about $100 bucks and got 2 of these bad boys. Oh wait it gets better. She gave them both to me for 256MB of RDRAM and a 40GB hard drive. Now don't say I took advantage, she knew full well what they were worth versus what I was trading her for them. So long story short I got 2 Sony SDM-N50 LCD's for about $200.00 instead of the $1600.00 Sony wants to sell them for on their site.

MOAN!!!

Order detail - order placed 11/29/01 12:34:22 PM

NEC TECHNOLOGIES
PlasmaSync 42MP2 42 Inches (42 Inches V.I.S.) Plasma Monitor. 16:9 Aspect Ration Qty: 1 Unit Price: $444.76

Sub-Total $521.95
Discount -$77.19
Shipping $0.00
Estimated Tax $0.00
Total Price $444.76

Dell called my house yesterday and told my mom that they had talked to their lawyers and were not going to uphold their price mistake and had cancelled my order. APPARENTLY it wasn't their fault... because they didn't list the price on their OWN website.

Funny thing is that my order still shows up on their web and has a shipping date also. I'm currently talkin to my roommates dad and see if I have a legal edge against them to get this TV.

hopefully this moan will turn into a brag

Yep, UPS service does indeed suck. I shall relate my bad UPS story that I recently had occur here as well.

Last month I purchased Toshiba Portege 660CDT from one of the forum members. He sent it to me carefully packed via UPS 2nd Day Air & it arrived on time. Unfortunately when I turned on the laptop (there was no damage to the casing) there was a white bar across the top of the TFT display. Upon close inspection I noticed a crack in the TFT film, these morons had somehow managed to damage this carefully packaged laptop. Guess by playing football with it in the warehouse. But it doesn't end there folks, I of course sent it back to him so that he could claim the insurance on it & we could figure something out. I shipped it via UPS Ground since that's what he suggested. These jokers took TWO WEEKS to ship this package via UPS Ground. They misrouted it multiple times & even sent it back to the MailBoxes Etc. location I sent it from because it was missing his apartment number. Which is TOTAL BS since I know I put that on the form for Mailboxes Etc & they print out a nice and neat label. From there (without having me come back to Mailboxes Etc to correct the error which verifies that it was BS) they UPS 2nd Dayed it back since he and I both had a few words with their customer service reps and he finally received it. I think it may have been because I told them to change the shipping address to his business address instead of residential these jerks seem to give priority to those addresses. When he finally received it the white bar was even further down the screen which meant that they had stressed it even more. It all went well in the end, I found a good deal on a replacement screen for the laptop on eBay and had it sent to him. He replaced the screen, sent it to me via FedEx (which delivered it even more quickly than UPS Ground using their own Ground service) and it is now working perfectly.

Frankly this experience & others have contributed to me no longer using UPS. I have two FedEx dropoff points closeby that are easy to use so its no hassle for me. As far as I'm concerned UPS can go jump off a cliff for the poor service & damaged packages that I've had from them. Screw UPS, GO FEDEX!!

BIG BRAGGER!

Finally got my Turkey Sale VisionTek Xtasy 6564 Geforce3 Ti200!!!!

Net cost: $49.95+tax!!!

I had ordered the item through BestBuy.com ($149.95) Thursday night since some in this thread had realized that Friday morning you could have one reserved in your name and then price match it instore when picking it up. However, most people here didn't have their orders go through, or never got their confirmation number. Friday morning at 9:14 AM however, I received a confirmation email letting me know my item was ready. I was already out shopping that morning, but I managed to retrieve my confirmation number (gotta love RoadRunner kiosks in the mall!) and headed back to BestBuy. Unfortunately, they did NOT have my card in stock. The manager apologized for their error and gave me a $50 gift card (cha-ching!) The next week I received a reminder notice letting me know that my item was ready for pickup. I went back to the store (exactly one week after the sale) and proceeded to the customer service counters. Lo and behold, no product in stock!!! I'm starting to get peeved, because now this is wasting my time!!! Before I cancel my order, I go the BestBuy.com phone service route. Cha-ching!!! Apparently these guys had heard of stores NOT giving preorder customers their GeForces because they were hoarding for friends or themselves. After a week of haggling, I finally got the $50 credit applied to my card after picking up the board yesterday.

This just goes to show that Best Buy may be difficult, but in the end they know when its their fault and they will honor their customers!

"2 Day Priority Mail... THAT'S 5 DAYS CUZ!" - Men In Brown
Well going on 7 days now.
Word of advice, be wary of shipping anything Usps priority this time of year.
Ordered an Alpha 8045 from Silicon Valley Compucycle. They were great. Ordered it Sunday December 2nd, They shipped it the next day.
USPS on the other hand has been taking their sweet time getting my priority package to me.
I know it's an obviously busy time of year and I can see it taking 5 maybe 6 days but considering my package has been sitting in Pennsylvania since Saturday I'm beginning to wonder if it'll even get here this week.

I am extremely pissed at the post office to say the least. :|
Even their site is down now. Sheesh.

Edit: On the other hand Fedex is absofrickingloutley amazing. Ordered some memory for my notebook from crucial yesterday. Missed the cutoff by like 6 minutes but they shipped it yesterday anyhow. Just checked the tracking #. Damn thing is already on the truck for delivery to me. Should be here in about an hour!

For those who got the free XP, I got two questions about that. One, how come there is no COA? Two, what does it mean by the line on the back "Unlicensed software..." and blah blah?

And yes, I got the free XP too!!
