Set yourself up with a NetZero account for posting and such. I've always had one just for when the cable modem goes out or any other disasters. Nice backup. (Ok, ya gotta look at crappy ads and such, but it's worth it in most cases.)

My OWN moan...

Am I the only one amazed at the fact that NONE of the PS2 games were put on sale after Christmas??? Went to 3 different malls here in Southern California and NOBODY had reduced price games. Sigh. I could understand XBox and GameBoob games, since those platforms just came out, but the PS2 has been out for a year now! Sheesh. :frown:

Moan:

Target has a new crappy return policy. Check the back of your receipts. On it you will find:

"All returns and exchanges must be new, unused, and contain all original packaging and accessories. Some items cannot be returned if opened, including music, movies, video games, software & collectibles. Some items are subject to a 15% restocking fee, including camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD and portable electronics. Other restrictions may apply.

Holiday and seasonal merchandise on clearance at time of return will be refunded at the current clearance price. Any purchase made by check may be refunded as a merchandise voucher.

All other returns or exchanges - including those without a receipt - will be offered manufacturers' warranty & repair assistance at 1-800-303-0308."

In other words expect a 15% restocking fee on electronics, and expect to get back less money than you may have paid on a holiday or seasonal item if it goes on clearance after you purchased it and you decide to return it. It doesn't matter if you have a receipt showing what you paid. You'll only get back the clearance price. Grrrr.

I thought I got a good deal on a 19" monitor (made by Miradex, a brand i never heard of) for $270+ after shipping and a $40 rebate. The monitor started crapping out on me after as of Dec 01. I also missed the rebate because I didn't sent it in asap. I learned 2 lessons:

1. A monitor is an important investment. Don't go buy the cheapest brand.

2. Always send rebates as soon as u get the item and everything is working.

Moan - Kinda

Kicking myself for not taking advantage of an Officemax deal I just saw but it was from just before
Christmas.

24 Speed Cendyne for 109 less 20 IR
Buy 100 pack HiVal CD's for 29 to get to 118.00
Apply the Staples 25 off coupon to get to 93.00(some OM stores will accept the Staples coupons)
Apply for the 20 rebate on the Cendyne and ditto the HiVal. to get a net of 53.00 + tax on 93.00.

Final out of pocket price ... $60.00 for a 24 speed CD burner and 100 blank CDs

Brag1

Picked up the Pacific Data CD writer (8/8/322) for 28 (after 20 rebate it will be 8.00). Just sold it at the
weekend for 59.00

Brag2

Was out of town over the weekend and I went to OD and inquired about price matching and coupon
acceptance policies (Staples coupons). The manager said that we would PM and accept coupons. I was
with a friend and he picked up some tape and CDs for about 41.00. Apply the 10 off 30 to get it to 31. Now
apply the 5.00 adjustment (effective 12/30/01) and apply for the 10.00 rebate on the CDs to get a net
price of some 16.00. Not bad for 50 CD's and 12 rolls of packing tape.
While there I also cashed in the 10 off 10 coupon that I had. I had to pick up an item for a few cents to get me
over $ 10.00. Paid about 2.00 for 12 rolls of packing tape. I took two back with me and gave the rest to my
friend. I would have paid more than 1.00 per roll anyway so altogether the deal was not too bad.

I tried the coupon at Staples but the manager would not accept it.

Well this may be an insight for some people. About a little over a year ago I bought a 1.3 MP Digital camera for $350 +/- from Sears. I got Sears Protection plan for two years for like $40. Just went to sears and told them I was having problems with the colors. They no longer carry the camera that I bought, so I had $350 to put towards another camera. Since the prices on digital cameras has dropped over the last few years I could get an even better one for the same price. That isn't even the best part. They didn't have any cameras I liked in stock, so they guy just credited my sears mastercard (which can be used anywhere) for the amount of the camera. Now it's time to save a little more for a Canon G2!

Hey AT people. I've heard a few people have gotten their rebates from the After Thanksgiving Best Buy sale. I have yet to receive any of my rebates. When I checked online at those rebate tracking sites, the only one that showed up was the 100 PNY cds from RebatesHQ.com. I haven't been checking this thread so I apologize if this is a repost.

if you have any info on these rebates, i'd appreciate it. i don't remember who was handling them (i think i sent them to NY). thanks!

Was at BB yesterday ... just browsing for open box items.

Found a 24 speed RW (Pac Digital) for 99.00 that was open box. Asked the sales rep about a discount on the
open box. Suggested that if I got it for 80.00 I would purchase it. He said mayby 85.00 and spoke to a
supervisor. She said no. The box had to go to tech to check it out.

The cds inside were even broken. I said that I didn't care about the CDs . Just needed the drive. No go for me.

I should have made the argument at the time that it would save them the labor costs associated with testing etc.
and that legally they can not sell it as "new" again. Oh well ... it was worth a try.

Found out that my AMEX blue was a student card so I can't pricematch. Just a warning for you guys who might have one. The student card is similar to the regular one except for pricematching and the car rental benefit. Sigh...helped my friend buy a camera and he wanted to pricematch it. singing the amex blues....

I did a decent deal at OM today.

They had Khybermedia CD - 50 pack on sale for 12.99 less 5.00 rebate.
I asked them if they matched Staples and took Staples' coupons. They said yes so I
immediately whipped out my 10 off 10 coupon from Staples (the infamous one!!1). The
manager hesitated for a moment then gave the ok to go ahead.

Net Result

50 pack at 12.99 less 10 off 10 for 2.99 plus tax for less than $3.25.

I wouldn't try it again at this OM though. The manager loooked pi$$ed, especially since that's all
that I bought.

I will try again tomorrow evening on the way home from work. Get 2 * 50 packs at 12.99 each and a
can of compressed air for 3.99 and maybe some gum to bump over 30.00. Use the 10 off 30
coupon that expires tomorrow to net 20.00 plus tax.

Use the rebate coupon with the CD's 2*5.00 = 10.00
Rebate on the air 3.99

Out of pocket cost approximately 6.00 + tax

I want to warn everybody about Z-buy.com. Heh, well I have only bought a video card from them, but their service is horrible. Their toll free support number is constantly busy, I dont even get put on hold. Second, the video card (Visiontek Geforce 3 Ti200) I received had one of its RAM heatsinks off (it had fallen off). This is also Visionteks fault, but the fact that I cant even contact Z-buy is quite annoying. BTW would you trust an online reseller that seems to have used WordArt to make its logo? They were slow to shipment and now I might have a hard time returning the card.

http://www.resellerratings.com/cgi-bin/reseller/comview.cgi?z-buy
It is funny to read those first two reviews...they are by the same person...heh
The horror story by bluelite further shows problems with z-buy.com

NEWEGG IS AWESOME...although I have only bought a mobo from them (a case is on its way), their emails/communication is great. Their customer support line was quick (only a couple of minutes on hold) and they were fast (excellent prices, too)

It probably should be, as they do not have a disclaimer anywhere on that site regarding typos.

I decided to go there because of the above statements, and I found it funny that they guarantee the lowest prices. They aren't that low.
