I agree, the removal of the BB thread is proof that BB has you by the nipples.

Another reason why advertising is gay and leads to biased actions on websites.

You should not have deleted that thread.

Is there another forum for those of us interested in discussing the GF4 /Best Buy deal?

Post from Ghouldini on f***wallet :

Hello. I just joined up. Even though I woke up way to late to even order this before the price changed, I have been following this thread over at Anandtech. I can honestly say I have scored me some very good deals because of that place (although I wouldn't be surprised if the same deals were listed here) but am finding it harder to take what has been happening over there the last few months.

I am sick of the slow load times. This all started when they came up with that "pay" for the extra PM space and bandwidth thing. I thought, OK, they got too much traffic, so they will set aside some better bandwidth for the ones who pony up. I mean all them people are taking a lot of space. I didn't expect that they would cut back the current non-paying bandwidth though. OK, so you figure they had to because the current usage was about to crash the site out, but since the price wasn't all that bad for what one got from there, and most are "willing" to help out, I figured by now that the site would have less non-paying members than they did when this started, which might even relieve the newly aquired "slowdown". Instead, I have seen the site get slower and slower, which I believe is a direct attempt to get the users pissed off enough to just say screw it and pay up. And it's not like Anad is poor or something. I saw a show with him on it on the satelite, and he is part of a new magazine out. And with all the banner ads and even ad threads (2 of them).....it's cash cow time.

But the NAZI action that happened there today is going to send them on a downward spiral. Who knows, maybe they end up like NoWonder one day. Quite obvious is a change in the place starting a few months back, but seeling out to an advertiser by yanking the thread is too much. We all know BB was going to not live up to this. But there was always hope. And since that thread had not been proven to be "dead" yet, they never should have deleted it. Lock it maybe because of all the abuse posts, but they locked it because BB doesn't want it going when the cancel emails started coming out. And they don't want further threads when talk of BBB and suits pop up. BB knows that site is heavily viewed. And Anand knows who their master is.

Hopefully this site has as much traffic, as it is the most mentioned alternative to them. I surely will not give them one frigg'n dime. I will still scoot by there, but I will look in here a lot more from now on.

Thanks for the diatribe. I know such a post, even in OT there, would be locked and I would get vacation. I will not do anymore ramblings in here so don't worry.

As for this card, I would have loved to score this. The only way I could afford a card like this is if they screwed up like they did. I really don't think they should be sued over this, but maybe by making it seem like something along that line will happen, maybe they will do something that covers both "mental anguish" compensation to those that scammed eerrrr got in on this deal and also to show you just can't put a price up and change your mind like that. Pricing error or not. B&M's can't get away with it, so why should they. I sure wouldn't want to be the dude that put in the typo.

At least I got that 5.5ns GTS-V for $50 over at Newegg.

Nice site, and good luck to all .

I fell much the sameway, but the thing about anandtech that keeps me hooked is the members in the forums . Seems to me f***wallet dosent have that kind of community right now.

hmm now there are two advertisement posts at the top of the threads?
whats next? we have to click through an ad to see each post in a thread?
i think either

(1) someone is getting greedy
or
(2) someone is not doing this for the fun they originally did it for

So what's the latest on the BB GF4 deal? Did they cancel the orders? Just curious.

I don't know if I got a cancellation email because I had some problems with my email server, but when I log in to my account at BB it is still "On Order".

BB GeForce4 advocacy lives on at HardOCP/Hypothermia, where the folks there are actually trying to do something.

The thread removal was pretty nasty. I think that Anand and co. should just fess up and say: "We did it for the money". Nothing wrong with honesty.

Some on at the fat fallet thread posted these links:

FTC Complaint Form

BBB Complaint Page

I went ahead and filled out the FTC one. Can't hurt? Perhaps with enough pressure, BB will at least throw us a GC bone.

Also Steve over at HardOCP/Hypothermia is starting a list of people who have had their orders canceled:

GF4 List signup

<< Here's a strange one... we found an Advertisement at BestBuy.com yesterday that proclaimed "VisionTek GeForce4 Ti4600 for Special Pre-Order Price of $129.00..the savings is a $200.00 Value". Normally a "typo" or mistake would be something to the effect of a misplaced decimal point or an accidental wrong price. It usually doesn't consist of adding terms like Special Pre-Order Price and savings is a $200.00 Value, ( since it sounds reasonable $129.00 + $200.00 savings for a card announced that day with no real set price yet ) all over the advertisement. So we did the right thing and CALLED. BestBuy.com confirmed the price of $129.00 twice. After a whole day of ordering, they reneged on the deal and cancelled all orders. The money has yet to be refunded. I have made a sign-up page for all of you that placed orders with BestBuy so that we may get as many people taken care of as possible. I have been in contact with them all day....

Enter your name, e-mail address and confirmation / order number
>>

I never saw the part on the web site that said "Special Pre-Order Price of $129.00..the savings is a $200.00 Value" All I saw was the $129 price. Anyone confirm this? I puts a new twist of this so called "pricing error" if BB actually KNEW that the price was a $200 savings and not just a "simple" pricing error.

It seems like I've seen them delete or lock threads that were getting out of hand. It looked there at the end like an angry mob was forming. I am completely ticked too, just cause this isn't the first time Best Buy lack of care for the customer has been seen. I would have liked to continue discussing it also, because we as a group could maybe put a stop to these BS practices. There's strength in numbers. But when people started saying, "I'll poop in a bag and leave it the store where they can't find it", grow up, I mean really. There would have to be civil ways to go about it like filing reports in ResellerRatings, Better Business Bureau, flooding BestBuy customer service phone and e-mail and express our outrage, and possibly bringing the press into. The moderators must explain the removal of the thread and allow us an Off-Topic thread or whatever to vent and figure out how we're going to stop Retailers from doing this time and again.

Obviously I was kidding when I wrote that. I didn't think people would start discussing the idea and joking about it to the point where I was afraid some were serious.

I have filed my complaints via FTC, BBB and called BB themselves (who angrily sounding was like "AGAIN SIR I APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCON...etc bs"

This whole GF4 thing is funny as hell! I have never seen such crybabies. Sheesh, it was a mistake folks, GET OVER IT.

Lets imagine for a moment, that the price was OVERMARKED, and everybody paid an extra 10 bucks or something. You can bet your sweet a$$ that everyone would be all over that! Since it was a price mismark, the True price is what should have been honored. Same goes in this case.

WAAAAAAaaaa, sheesh. I see we are slowly turning into an Oprah-ized culture of whining ninnies...

Alright, first of all, I am tired of this happening. Something has to be done to stop it. It's serious false-advertising that they get away with all the time. How in the hell can Best Buy release a product that's a Promotional Item linked on the FRONT PAGE with a PROMOTIONAL PRICE with a product as anticipated as the GEFORCE 4 and put a incorrect price on that. Just an honest mistake...I'm not buying it. A big company like that should have checks and balances in place to prevent that from happening, but they don't care. If they were held accountable for their mistakes, maybe they will start have a three people check prices before they are made public on their site. If you just want to ignore it...it will keep happening and Best Buy will keep on giving their customers the shaft.
But if you disagree and don't really care, then why the hell did you come in here and post. Take your apothy elsewhere, Junior.

...it will keep happening and Best Buy will keep on giving their customers the shaft.

But no one GOT the shaft. Just their hopes dashed, and even that is a strong wording, since most probably figured it was a pricing error.

The reason I posted was because I hate to see so much bandwidth wasted in such things. On the other hand, I bothers me to see deleted threads, but putting everything into consideration, I can understand.

As for them having to "pay" for it, I am sure its been a hassle and an embarrassment. You say they don't care, but thats ridiculous. Some moron at BB didnt realize what they had entered into the computer, and now other people have to go around doing damage control. That costs time and money.

Oh well, I'll let you folks get on with the whining. AT has provided a great service, and has saved me hundreds, and others THOUSANDS of dollars, so I will defer to their judgement on the handling of this matter.

I wouldn't be surprised if I get a ban for this from the local forum mod nazis. Hell, it'll probably get deleted, but I don't care. Here goes anyway -

You know, I was one of the folks that got in on the Best Buy GeForce4 deal. Did I honestly expect to get the thing for that price? Hell, no. But it's like the lottery, nothing ventured - nothing gained. Am I pissed off that Best Buy didn't honor that price? Not really - a bit disappointed yes. However, what has pissed me off is the double standards that the Anand gestapo have applied here. Because Best Buy is one of their advertisers, they feel a compelling need to sweep everything under the carpet like it never even happened. And what bull$!t justification do they give for doing so? None! All they state is "It was a price mistake, so deal with it in a mature manner please." Umm...I'd like to direct you to this thread -

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=653044&highlight_key=y&keyword1

This thread was also an obvious pricing error. Who the hell would honestly expect to buy a set of Altec Lansing ADA880s for ~$24? This thread was also full of people that were p!$$ed off at Dell. But this thread was not locked. This thread was also not moved from the Hot Deals forum. Also, this thread continued to generate interest long after Dell cancelled the orders. What the hell is the difference? That's easy - Dell is not one of their sugar daddies, plain and simple. Screw it - I'm done with AT. I'm going to the w@!!et that is fat site to get all my deals. Way to go AT mods!

Wfalcon:

I agree whole heartedly.

Don't get me wrong, I love anandtech and the community. But I think the mods should follow a standardized procedure and not start being biased, ever.
