Why is everything you buy at any store now a friggen rebate!!!! It's out of control I tell you. I myself refuse to buy anything with a rebate nowadays, I wish everyone else would follow suit.

I think Staples screwed me but cant be sure. I ordered the Viewsonic E90f from them and
when it arrived the box looked awful. It was blackened with dirt and the top was opened.
This didnt bother me a first until i plugged it in. When in standby mode it emits a high squeal.
Did I get an open box item? Or is this all just coincidental?

PM me please with any suggestions of what to do.

woohoo-- I scored an opened Sony D-CJ01 mp3 CD player at GoodGuys yesterday for $90. NINETY FREAKIN BUCKS. Not a scratch, but no box. I'd never pay twice this price for a Rio SP250.

I had the high bid for 5 of 12 GeForce2 GTSers at $37/each and Ubid extended the auction way past 10 minutes from the last bid (12:53p EST). The auction closed at 1:15p EST and it should have closed (per their rules) at 1:03p EST. I guess it's their game and they can do whatever the H@ll they like.

MSN sucks. Got screwed by them with the eshop Holiday reward.

Ordered my camera on Dec. 20th through Ritz camera, and as of this date, MSN still CANNOT confirm my holiday reward. I have emailed them more than five times, and every time they claim that they are researching the issue. Ritz camera was at least able to tell me that my name was part of the Excel file that was sent to MSN. Unfortunately, if MSN did not honor my Reward, there isn't anything that Ritz can do. What sucks even more is that now that it's been more than 30 days, and Ritz won't even take back my camera.

Any idea or recourse? (disputing the charge with the CC company would be pretty difficult I think)

Do not do business with this company. They have screwed me twice now. The first time I bought a ISA serial card and it was damaged when it arrived to my house. CSR told me if I wanted to return it I'd have to pay for shipping. Well, the card only cost $20 and shipping back would be almost half that so, I just keep it. And I did get it to work after some repair.

Because they sell this item for so cheap, I decided to purchase two more ISA serial cards. This time they sent differet cards, not what I ordered. This time CSR told me they have the right to substitute out of stock items, but this was not a suitable substitute. It was a cheaper, slower card. CSR told me if I wanted an exchange I'd be responsible for shipping the cards back.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. You get the idea. I've been dealing with this company on the phone so much over the past month that I know half their staff by name. The bottem line is I still don't have the cards or my money... Either way I'm out the $8 it cost to ship the cards back.

They are very polite on the phone, but continue to quote their BS policies and give me the run around. "Call back in a couple days" "We'll take care of this today".

I know this is a small purchase to a company like this and we're not talking much money, but it's the principle of the matter.


I hope someone reads this and aviods doing business with them. Or if you can offer a better way of getting satisfaction, please let me know. Thanks Rick

I checked out Best Buy because a fellow Anandtecher from here in town said there were some good deals.
Brand new 802.11b wireless access point with 4 port switch and built-in router, firewall, and all of that jazz, $109.50 minus a $30 rebate brings the grand total to $80. On top of that, I had about $20 in gift card to get rid of, so really I paid $60 for a wireless access point. It's nice typing out a brag from the couch with no wires dangling from my laptop. Retail store sucks because you really really need rebate to get anything at a decent price but still comparing to ordering online is much of a hassle! All I do is make stupid trips to BB, officemax just to find out that it was too good to be true and it was!
I don't know how this is convenient when you gotta fight with traffic to get their and then turn around because someone blah blah said they got this at blab blah blah. great for people with no patient but a a few day to a week for mail ordering, is not a long wait is it?
BB was selling 128meg of ram for 39.95 with 5 buck rebate, oh wow I am saving lotsa money!!!
256mb of ram was 79.95 with 10 dollars rebates, that's even more saving! giggle.
If I remember right, I got 4 stick of 256mb dimm pc133 for 16.50 bucks a piece from DELL not too long ago. (BRAGS) damn, that rocks.

I went to Best Buy when I head about the "open box specials". I went into the hub/switch/NIC asile, and noticed an open box Compaq 10/100 auto-sensing 5 port switch with a "12.60" sticker on it. I also saw that there was a $10 rebate on it!

Bottom Line: I got a 5-port 10/100 switch for $2.60+tax

Ok this is a moan, that no one will prolly read but here goes. Sometime on Sat, our debit card was charged $10 and some odd cents to a casino and porn company in France!!! Neither me or my wife use such services, and we are now ticked!!! Most recent purchases would have been from home depot and footlocker.com, but then they could have hacked a site where we bought from or they could have been sitting on our card number for weeks!!! Argh, its not the money cause it will be refunded, its the invasion of privacy thats the worse. Does this warrent a new thread? Has this happened to more people then us in the last week?

Credit Card Billing Grace period - Take a close look at your credit card bills . One of my CC cos has shorten the grace period from 28 days to 2 weeks ! And yes I pay my balance in full ever moonth. A blip in the mail could make it late. Obviously I am closing that account and will substitute for one with a longer grace period.

We had a kitchen sink which was a mess, cracking and discolored, so when the faucet started to leak bigtime lastnight it was time to replace both. So we go to Lowes and we see a nice sink for $217 in a "linen" color, and there in the shelf was one almost the same color called "bone", but on the side of the box it says "clearance" for $40.67. Super deal $176 off!!! Only wish I could have had somebody install it for me for the same amount!

They shipped my printer to the wrong address. This happened even though I had called Dell more than once to have the shipping address changed, several weeks before the backordered printer was shipped. The second time I called the CSR even confirmed the correct shipping address before I gave it to her. I hate calling them only of hear 20+ minutes of "ask Dudley" before ever speaking to a real person. >>




I personally find that the most effective way, is to state your complaint mostly calmly. Then, the clencher is to say something to the effect of, " I have recomended 'X-company' to several friends of mine, but if this is the kind of customer service you offer, I will have to start warning all my friends instead of recomending you."

That usually works pretty well for me. Good luck.
