I'm not sure they are allowed to charge your credit card without your authorization. Its probably too late now, but you should have told them you do NOT authorize them to add that charge. They were probably trying to bluff you. You could have said you were not going to let them charge you, then if they did you could dispute it with the credit card company. BTW, this is another reason why you DO NOT CALL on pricing errors I mean the person answering the phone is usually some clueless phone operator just checking the price on the computer and telling you. If you say something like oh this is a price error will I get it? They will just tell you yes, then go talk to thier boss most likely.

I found out something interesting yesterday. Buy.com doesn't have a customer support phone number. All you can do is email them. The story goes I ordered the Audiosource speaker deal, the ones for $24.95, from Buy.com. They were the price mistake of the day. Anyways they come ahead of schedule. Well they come alright and the box looks like its gone thru a meatgrinder. It's got what looks like a KICK into the side of the box. Anyways I'm pissed so I decided to contact Customer Service. Well the only phone number on their site is thier Fax number. So I goto yahoo and look for contact info for Buy.com and I get their sales number. Well I call and tell the guy what happened and he tells me that they don't take service calls. He tells me to email thier support staff. What a load of cr@p. So if my order gets fubared by the delivery company, which wasn't the case, Buy.com hadn't packed it right, then I'm out of luck. I'm so pissed over this that I don't think I'm going to order from them again. All AT'ers beware of Buy.com.

My wife tells me I got my MSN Holiday Reward rebate in the mail today. Funny thing is, I originally ordered the Canon S110 from PhotoAlley, which they promptly cancelled for no reason. I just re-ordered at RitzCamera.com and both purchases were applied to my reward rebate, so I got $100 instead of $80. Thanks, Microsoft!

Zales hooked me up!
I scored a Seiko Chronograph (yellow & blue) in 1998 for half off for $300 cause the manager was my buddies wife. The battery died in 2001. Got it replaced and it just stopped working last week. I took it into Zales knowing it would cost alot to fix and when I told the manager it was broken and the last thing i had done was the battery change in 2001, she said that zales doesn't do battery changes to chronographs due to the pressure settings. That's why it doesn't work.
Well, I showed her the receipt which proved that a Zales employee changed my battery and low and behold she takes my watch and gives me a brand spankin' new one. My old one was even all scratched and gunked up. Needless to say I have been smiling all day with a new choice time piece on my wrist.
I guess all that price matching and scamming doesn't build bad karma. haha
Sorry, but had to brag

Brag!

I got three of these bad boys! $25 - 20% = $20 for the monitor. $15 for cable + $5 shipping. total price = $40 each!

"The IBM 6555 Model 773 P200 Color Monitor has a 20-inch Trinitron** CRT with a viewable image size of 19.1 inches (486 mm), that incorporates a 0.31mm aperture grille. A maximum horizontal frequency of 96kHz delivers an optimum 1600x1200 pels at up to 75Hz non-interlaced with a maximum addressability of 1600x1280 pels. It has Universal Voltage for the Northern Hemisphere."
they're used, but the people my dad works with have bought several of these and they all have worked great.

(BTW, I didnt get them from argecy.com, I just searched for specs on em and that is what I found)

Free Magazine Subscription Woes

I subscribed for the 4 free magazine issues from Business Week( the kind of annoying stuff that pops on their web site) . After 4 weeks, I phoned them and cancelled my subscription. The fu***** kept on sending me bills but I kind od ignored them , thinking that this might be of no use since I had already cancelled the subscription.
Now today I have received a letter from the debtt recovery company ( a threating letter)....

This is totally uncalled for...... Thoought u all must know about this.

has someone dealt with this kind od stuff before??

Do u think I must poay the company???

I gotta say that McAfee Antivirus is the WORST software product I have ever used...or attempted to use. It constantly breaks itself when updating over the internet so I have to reinstall from scratch. If I have the Virus scanner on when running, it'll occassionally hang Win2000 (which never hangs for me when McAfee is not running.) I have to kill it before burning CD's. It crashes Outlook if I have HAWK on. It keeps my computer from going to low power mode...and on and on. This ranks up there with IBM's ViaVoice as the biggest scam in the history of over-sold software...

{BRAG} Worldwide Direct (buydig.com) for your digital camera needs.

http://www.buydig.com/cgi-local/sho...n=yes&exact_match=on&category=DIGITAL+CAMERAS

UNLIKE typical computer parts shopping that I have done exstensively now for 3+ years online and have had one bad experience - the online camera retailers are for the most part a group of cut-throat bait and switchers. Luckily, I research all my purchases quite thoroughly, especially when they get much over $100. Due to the numer of complaints I was seeing in the digicam forums; I began scrutinizing the RESELLER RATINGS of each company I found a good price from. 95% would NOT sell at the advertised price without the purchase of high priced add-ons (flash cards, camera bags, batteries, etc at more than even retail price). If they did take your order it was never shipped and suddenly "out of stock" when the buyer called to check. Also many received Gray market (European models) that came with NO US Warranty.

WORLDWIDE engaged me in NONE of theses tactics!!! They were considerate and professional. Although addons were offered there was no pressure to buy them and we quickly got the ordered placed for the camera ONLY at an amazing price. I had it in 2 DAYS for standard FEDEX rates. When my camera developed a problem it was quickly replaced. I HIGHLY recommend this company for any digital camera purchase. Their prices are nearly as low as anyone (Probably the lowest of any that you can ACTUALLY purchase) and the service is second to none.

{MOAN} COMP-U-PLUS.......OK, so it's been over a year! I still want everyone to know that this company treats it's customers like dirt. They hangup on you if you have a problem. Their customer (dis)service line is a TOLL call and they enjoy putting you on hold and leaving you there. I e-mailed everyone listed in the customer service dept. and never received a single reply to my courtesous pleas for help....even from the HEAD of the dept. ONLY after Gordon Ung (the WATCHDOG @ MAximum PC) contacted them on my behalf, did I receive any reply. There are so many other e-tailers with better prices and worlds better service (Newegg.com comes immediately to mind), that I can't understand how these people are still in business. STAY AWAY!!

JUST DEALS.....stay away!! Ordered 4 Logitech Force Wheels @ $45/wheel for resale on EBAY (the original RED Wheel and the picture that they used in their ad). Received 4 Force GP Wheels which are, although newer, a much poorer design and virtually worthless to resell (they knew the differnce because they also sold these wheels at $35 per wheel). It took over 4 months to get the credit for the return, which I did promptly. They were still advertising the wrong wheel for over a week after I notified them of their error and they had told me they were no longer available. How many others they ripped off in that time?? Who can say.

<< I gotta say that McAfee Antivirus is the WORST software product I have ever used...... >>

Thanks for reminding me CYFAN2001.

YES, I second this motion to STAY AWAY from McAFEE!! I bought the AV/Firewall combo in August. The firewall never worked as well as the FREE Zonealarm. The Antivirus worked until 10-25 when I bought WINXP and did a fresh install. When I tried to load McAfee AV I got the error that it was incompatible with this version of Windows. I contacted them and they gave me a patch. Recently I began having problems with Internet Explorer and upon the advice of MS uninstalled McAfee. That did not solve the problem but went I tried to reinstall, I got the incompatibilty error. Would McAfee give me the patch again.....NO!

"The only solution we can offer you is to upgrade to version 6.0." MY solution was to tell them I will NEVER buy one of their products again AND will tell everyone who will listen how they treat their customers. $50 worth of software = worthless in 4 months!!!!

If anybody has ever heard of anything like this please let me know, PM or otherwise...

I was reading THIS, and thought to myself why not go to CompUSA, who did not have this drive on sale, and say "Best Buy has this on sale for $79.99 after rebates can you price match?" I then planned on taking that receipt to BB and having them price match the $79.99, and then I would get the $50 in GC/MIR. Well here's what CUSA did, they said they would match the price, but instead of just marking the drive down, he put $50 on a gift card and then ran that through before I paid for the item, so the receipt just shows the regular price for the drive, and was paid for with a $50 gift card and the remaining on a credit card. Well this was no help at BB because it doesn't show the drive as being marked down. I'm thinking CUSA did it this way just for that reason, BB and CUSA are virtually next door to each other in this shopping center. So, I don't really need this drive at that price, so I take it back the next day. The refund guy credits the WHOLE AMOUNT back to my credit card, that's $50 in my pocket for free. Did the original guy think of this when he rang it up that way? Did I get them back at their own game? Anyone else ever hear of doing a price match this way?

keyman923:
I belive there was a post about the .99 cent ones going out of stock. Anyway, they had two differant case badges, one was the .99 cent one, the other was the $6 one. I think the .99 ones were non domed. Anyway, a few days after the post about them on the hotdeals forum, the .99 cent ones went away, I've seen that happen before with items that go out of stock, they remove them. Hopefully newegg will get some more in.

Ok first, normally the procedure is to return the bill and write CANCEL across it. So you should have done that. Hopefully you remember or wrote down at the very least the date you called to cancel, and hopefully the name of the person you spoke to and perhaps the time. What you need to do is write a nice letter to the debt recovery company and explain to them what happened. That it was 4 free issues, and that you called and cancel them on such and such a date. Make sure to run it through a spell checker Make SURE you do something about this, its not a good idea to just ignore them. Its not nessasary to just pay though, you can usually straighten it out by calling and/or writing the mag company and the debt recovery company.

So who scored the free Microsoft software at UCLA and got the Frys Athlon 1700+ / Raid MOBO combo for $129.00? I got the combo on Friday and went to UCLA tonight. I have missed so many deals, this makes up for all of them! Thank you all at Anandtech for making me carry a credit card balance ( I never used to do that). Saving so much money is killing me.
