actually my goldbox is usually crap too. but we needed a heater and the overpriced heaters he bought everyone else was on sale in the goldbox for 60 bucks. personally i'd never buy a 60 dollar heater, but it's not my money ... so i figured get one everyone else got and get the best. anyhow, today when i was spending my free $30, i got the office space dvd in my gold box for $12. grabbed that. =) today was a good day.

Just wanted to relate a good experience at STAPLES. I went there today with a $20 coupon that was valid for one day only--October 21. I asked the customer service desk if I could use it today instead because I'll be out of town on Monday. The CSR looked at it and said OK. Cool. Got me a Belkin 10/100 switch for $20.

Sold the $130 Northwood 2.0B for $150, bought a 2.4B for $157. Running it right now at 2.7GHz. A 2.7 Northwood for $137, not too shabby IMHO

Well, I went to Best Buy to buy a TDK 48X CDRW and a pack of Imation CDR's. She rang me up for the pack of CDR's then she started talking to the people behind me and got kind of distracted. So she scanned the Serial number on the bottom of the TDK instead of the UPC. It gave her an error and she cleared it then scanned the CDR's again. So all in all, she rang me up for 2 packs of CDR's and I got the TDK for the cost of 1 pack of CDR's.

A week later I went to Best Buy and actually bought the TDK to get the rebate receipt and sent in the rebate and returned the second TDK. So I ended up with a FREE TDK 48X CDRW, but I ended up selling the TDK for $100 on Ebay and getting a Yamaha CRW-F1.

Ended up paying $30 for the Yamaha after the whole deal and rebates.

Is that great or what?

I ordered the I/O MP3 player from OD and had to return it. When I checked my credit card, the credited my account for the full amount of the MP3 player, without considering that I used a coupon for the order. Since I don't want to be getting money that doesn't belong to me, I called CS and told them about their mistake. I was shocked to find out that their recommendation for rectifying the situation was to do nothing! I can't believe they wouldn't want their money back. It sounds to me like CS laziness. Oh well, I made money of the deal, but it doesn't seem very honest.

I just got thirty Palm i705's from Staples from Staples at $1.99 each

I saw the deal yesterday morning and jumped on it quickly. The status was "processing" all day. The price was corrected to $199.99 later that morning, so I thought I would get a cancellation e-mail. This morning when I checked the order had changed to shipped!

Brilliant!

I was going to post the deal when i got into work but they had already changed the price.

Nothing super amazing, but I lucked out and bought my new 19" MAG monitor from Best Buy on a good day. I was planning to buy it for the 199 - 60 $139 price. Thing is, that rebate ended that very day, and a new rebate for $50 had started the day before, so I got both rebates. A new 19" monitor for $89! I was happy, been using a 14" for 5 years before this.

Minor rant with admonition:

First the minor rant: After seeing the KFC.com "anniversary special" pointed out kindly by folks here, I decided I had to get in on it during the 4 days offered. The deal was buy one 3 pc dinner and get one free. The meal itself was mediocre, not bad, but I was surprised that it cost me almost $6 for the single dinner (without drink mind you!). Next time kfc can celebrate their anniversary alone


And now the admonition: I see so many stories here and elsewhere about how people get burned, and often they start off with "..so I went to this place I found on pricewatch..." heh. Well for months before building my pc I visited pricewatch daily looking for this place and that to shave a few bucks off of a component. SOOOO many of those places were very secretive about added costs and shipping etc.

Once I realized that newegg.com was at or near the low price on everything I wanted, I stopped visiting most of the others. I'm not saying "get it all at newegg", I know there are a good handful of reputable online stores, I'm just highly recommending that people consider the risk factor and at least look for seller ratings and so forth before going with the lowball outfits.

YMMV, but I went "garage-saling" with the wife last Sunday, and found a parallel port Zip 250 drive with cartridge marked $25.00. It was in the box, with all components, and had apparently only been used once (the guy's registration form was still in the box). Since it was late on Sunday afternoon they'd marked everything "half off," thus making this deal even sweeter: $12.50! However, my wife, being the nice Italian girl that she is, offered $9.00--and they accepted! It works beautifully, and has given me the external storage I was lacking on an old IBM notebook I've got. YMMV, but don't skip those garage sales!

Got the m515 for $149.99 from Circuit City, with the $199 price mistake deal. They caved b/c I got a confirmation email from CC, had it, etc. The girl REDUCED it by $199 instead of TO $199. I told her, that is wrong, (I'll jump on a misadvertised price, but I think her making a mistake ringing it up isn't honest, plus she might get screwed.) She said oh well. Okaayyy.....

Then I might still get the amazon $20 GC, the $50 rebate, and my credit card had a 20% off on next purchase deal up to $30. DAMN, an m515 for $62.xx ($149 + tax - 100). If I get it all of course.

after five flawless orders they messed one up......

i ordered 2 stick of Samsung Original 256MB PC3200. i recieved generic samsung PC3200.... first they complained that the shipping address wasn't on file with the credit card company(it was). i had to email them reminding them thats this is the 5th order and the bill to has changed(i have moved) but the ship to has not(i still have the smae job). take care of the credit card thing and four days later still nothing. i send another email asking whats up? they say they are out of stock and waiting for deleivery so they delayed shipment.. thats cool besides the fact that i had to email them twice to find that out.

so order monday october 28th
tell them that the ship to address is on file with the CC company 29th
email asking about ram nov 1st
find out the RAM is OOS nov 2nd
ships nov 6th
arrives nov 8th
back at work on tuesday and the get package 12th
email about the wrong item the 13th
call and leave voicemail 14st
email all three emails i can find rma,rwang,sroohparvar and leave another voicemail 15nd
FINALLY A RESPONSE!!
they email me back again apologizing for the delay and asking me to pay to ship it back... i tell them i will not pay more shipping since this is their mistake.

if they have not responded by the end the business day friday the 15th i will call the CC company and start a chargeback.

I got a little song and dance from the cashier lady. I showed the printout to another guy and he said no problem. He brought the drive to the cashier, she rang it up at $89, I said oh wait it should be this... "I don't know if I can do that." Luckily the other guy was standing right there and he came over and told her to override it. Then she said, "You know this comes right off our P&L, if you'd wait until tomorrow then we get reimbursed". I'm smiling and thinking to myself, "like I care, and if it's really a big deal like you say it is, then OM wouldn't let me do this", it's called a Sneak Preview lady!!
