Just wanted to let you guys know of my post-holiday scavenger hunt deals at Best Buy:
I happen to be visting my hometown near Chicago. Day after Christmas, I was driving by a Best Buy. Of course, gotta stop in and see what they have open box. I see that they have a Pronto Neo (a cool programmable remote). Now, BB is supposed to have these discontinued. So I asked the sales droid to get me a price. He comes back after talking to the manager, says $150 ($199 was their price). I tell the sales guy that BB has discontinued these, take the thing from his hands, and I march over to the manager, and I said: I'll take it for $100.00 right now, out the door! He let's me have it!
Even better: Just went to the local BB here in Metro Atlanta. I've been looking for open-box IPODS. They had one there, at first I couldn't tell it's size (because they had the open-box sticker over it), but then examining it closely, I see that it's the Windows 20GB IPOD! But, the price, they've marked like it's the 10GB version (price was marked down to $369!!!) :Q
But, being the shopper that I am, I had to of course ask the manager if I could have even more of a discount off. After checking, he realized the pricing mistake, but said that all open-box items were an additional 10% off. And if I didn't buy it, it would be re-priced correctly. He said that they would be selling it much below cost to me! Well, I though about it for 5 minutes, and told him to let me go home and get my gift certificate. I did, came back and bought it! I also took the service plan (since it was essentially free after the 10% discount) Oh yeah, they tried to weasel their way out of the 10%, saying that all the open box tags had already been adjusted, but I pointed out to them the various signs that said 10% off marked price. So, after my gift certificates and discount, I paid approx $230 for the 20GB IPOD!
I also purchased an open box Samsung Combo DVD-reader and CD-RW. Open box price was $99.00, then 10% off that, and there's also a $30.00 rebate that brings this sucker down to $60.00 after rebate. You can tell I've got some toys to play with after the holidays!
