Posting coupon codes is against the rules of the forum.

If you look close enough its there.

this one has faster -R DL speeds, looks about it. IMO, I would go for the NEC, only because of the modified firmware availible. The pioneer 109 firmware has yet to be modified, so if your into using those then this isnt the drive for you, atleast not at this time. The NEC 3540 has some bitsetting firmware, and probably riplock removed as well.

NEC 3540 is a great drive, gets my recommendation... This Pioneer is useful if U were into DVD writing back in the day and still have the old school DVD-RAMs. I still got a few of those sitting around and my first generation DVD-RAM drive.

Riplock is a limit on how fast you can RIP a DVD to your hard drive. Most have a 2X limit. If you have a DVD drive with riplock it can slow down the DVD backup process.

you can check some review sites; pretty much there are four criteria for reviewing a DVD/R drive. "Write Quality", "Write Speed", "Features", "Read/Rip speed"

features include like bit setting, overburn, etc.

personally, write quality is at the top of my list and I mostly have problems ripping CD stuff (games, audio, etc) which is why I got a Plextor Premium. As for DVDs, rip speed can be slow, but personally i'd rather have a better burn over a fast one.

pretty good price. For me, i would stay away from pioneer since i have a bad experience with the burn quality. Even with good media like TY, MCC, and rico

Exactly and Best Read Ability for me.

I have had a few Disc's that no one else could read but the Pioneer was able to recover them.

There was one model that didnt get DVD+R correct but that has been corrected in these newer ones.

I use Verbatims mainly now.

STAY AWAY FROM RITEK. THEY ARE JUNK. Look at the inner ring and you will see bubbles and disc seperation on them. They also changed the dye used about a year ago.

I'm kinda curious if this is the DVR-110 or the DVR-110D. The ones that have shown up in Japan are the DVR-110D and do NOT support DVD-RAM.

yeah, i've had every Pioneer DVR-AXX (DVR-1XX) since the DVR-A03 (DVR-103)

burn quality is good, especially with verbatim and taiyo yuden.

you might ask how about other brands... if you want good burn quality, use good media and a good burner. i used to use Ritek too, but the dye started to show discoloration after 12 months; in a lot of cases I was not able to recover the data.

If you go to a B&M store and get FUJI (Made in Japan) you are purchasing Taiyo Yuden. Check cdrinfo forums; they even have a "buyer beware of this media" section.

Make that free 2nd day shipping, but also "Bulk" model.
I'm guessing it means almost OEM.

Shop4tech's site doesn't have much description on if it is a new retail, but i'm guessing it is "bulk" also.

I dunno. If you're planning on putting them in a Primera DVD duplicator... then Pioneer are about the only drive that will work.

Bulk/OEM just means it doesn't come with software or a cable. I have a gazjillion cables around I dont care about that, and I have a couple of purchased nero versions around I can use so I dont care about that either.
I'm kinda leaning towards the Nec though, for the firmware as people have mentioned.

I'll bite, I just returned the NEC 3450 due to tons of burn issues, I have the retail DVR-109 Pioneer in my one rig and have never once had an issue with it, so this should hopefully make for a good burner for my second PC.
