Make that free 2nd day shipping, but also "Bulk" model.
I'm guessing it means almost OEM.

Shop4tech's site doesn't have much description on if it is a new retail, but i'm guessing it is "bulk" also.

Bulk/OEM just means it doesn't come with software or a cable. I have a gazjillion cables around I dont care about that, and I have a couple of purchased nero versions around I can use so I dont care about that either.
I'm kinda leaning towards the Nec though, for the firmware as people have mentioned.

For Pioneer it actually does make a difference. Full retail box model (up until now) has a waffle type cover that mutes noise - and can be recognized by the round silver eject button instead of rectangular plastic. I hate DVD CD whining noises.

I have had most of the Pioneers and Plextors - I like my DVR_AOXALA-108 better than my 109, and was about to try a NEC 3520A before they go away, but I would now buy the 110 instead when retail comes out - assuming they still will have a dif version. Perhaps they may abandon retail like the other manuf's.

Would be nice to know what chip they are using.

Also, DVD OEM burners are projected to be at $35 dollar level by fourth quarter = crazy heh?

Thanks Kristopher!!!

Does anyone have any idea if this has good spin-up speeds? My 3500 takes for EVER to spin up and read the disc... Which is really annoying because I use it to read game CD's. Looking for a second drive.

Pioneer is known for their fast spin up times, I have the retail version of the DVR-109 and couldn't be happier.

I just ordered the DVR-110 from zipzoomfly for $56 shipped for my other computer.

DVR-110 arrived today;

man i lub this drive. even though the drive spin is not as quiet as the XL retail series, i think my system is still louder than this bulk 110. 110's noise doesn't bother me, b/c so many whirring-spinning noises from my case and my fridge is frikkin loud too (1bdrm apt).

going to check write quality on this, pretty sure my Taiyo Yuden's will be fine though; same with the Verbatim DLs.

Does this one have RIPLOCK enabled ?

Also, I mostly use DVD+RW ... which other drives do DVD+RW writes at 8X ?

It has better write quality than my 109, so I am happy.

I haven't played with the DL yet, but i'll prolly stick with 4x or possibly 6x burning anyway.

As for riplock, it probably is turned on, but there are firmwares for the other drives out there that turn it off... (I used to use Nil and Gradius firmwares, but I don't think they are still developing)

Exactly and Best Read Ability for me.

I have had a few Disc's that no one else could read but the Pioneer was able to recover them.

There was one model that didnt get DVD+R correct but that has been corrected in these newer ones.

I use Verbatims mainly now.

STAY AWAY FROM RITEK. THEY ARE JUNK. Look at the inner ring and you will see bubbles and disc seperation on them. They also changed the dye used about a year ago.

The exact same story for me.

it's the 110D, i'll hold out for the 110

Seriously ... what does DVD-RAM write ability do for us mere mortals ? Can a DVD-RAM blank be cheaper than a DVD-R or a DVD+R ? Help me understand.

DVD-RAM has the ability to write, and rewrite, and rewrite like nobody's business... I read somewhere that DVD-RAM can rewrite up to as much as 1000 times. Think of it as a USB pen drive, U can drag and drop files from Windows Explorer without having to use a burning program like Nero.

Is this the successor to the Pioneer 108/109 drives that were so popular? I have a 108 which is awesome...

Except that you can't take DVD-RAM disks to just anyone's house

Get an external case for the drive and think of it as a really big, unwieldy USB pen drive for those special moments. Then weep when you realize that they now have 8 gig pen drives

I have a Pioneer DVD-120 reader and Pioneer DVR-A05 writer since the A05 came out and it has been an awesome work horse. I started with Taiyo Yuden and now use the Sony DVD-R and I have had 100% great luck. But it is time to upgrade and I have a friend that loves his NEC 3540 but I am seriously leaning toward the DVR-110. His main reason is the firmware upgrades available for the 3540, but my tendency is toward what I have known and what has proved itself DVR-A05. What the forums consensus? Any know issues with either drive? Anyone one have specific problems with either?

Also, my burning software is RecordNowMax 4.50e with pxEngine 507, will it be able to utilize either drive?
