Sara Lee Wheat bread:

I decided to make my own lunches again.
2 sandwiches for lunch.

then I felt lazy for dinner and had 2 sandwiches as well.
then 4 more slices with just butter as a snack.

a couple of hrs later, my gums felt like I just ate a whole bag of potato chips.
aka like I just poured a ton of salt into my mouth.

this morning I looked at the nutritional info of the bread.
12 slices of bread = 60% of daily value salt!
holy WTF!

plus add the salt from the deli slices and butter and whatever else I ate that day.
I was probably well over 150%+ of salt values.
Bread is not a good thing to overdo. Nothing is really good when over done though.

Reading this, it seems that potato bread is healthier then wheat bread.
http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/potato-bread-vs-wheat-bread-6033.html

That's wheat, not whole wheat.
I personally have always liked sourdough (also supposedly better than white/wheat in areas like impact blood sugar), rye, pumpernickel, etc over potato bread - which is tasty - but I don't eat potato bread anymore since it has eggs.

Also this stat makes me

A sandwich made with wheat bread has 300 grams of sodium, compared to a potato bread sandwich's 24 grams of sodium.

I know they mean milligrams, but number still seems off for potato bread, especially if using the word "sandwich", which implies two slices of bread and some filling. Poorly written article. I hope it was written by a bot.

Well I like sourdough, rye, and pumpernickel as well. When I go to Ruler Foods, I get a couple of loaves of dark rye. And what is wrong with eggs?

Good time to bump RideFree's bread recipe, although it's in Hot Deals so I'll just link it:

There are plenty of other recipes out there, but that's the one I used when I first got a bread machine, and it makes a good loaf. You can also just do traditional oven baking, of course, but a machine saves some work.

The good thing about making your own bread (and it's stupid-simple with a bread machine) besides the aroma and wonderful soft fresh bread itself is you can control the amount/ratio of all the ingredients including salt. Though you quickly realize you need *some* amount of salt for flavor and to control rise, but not necessarily as much as the higher prepared breads.

I end up eating a lot more bread when I bake it, though, so it's a little counterproductive as far as nutrition.
