Breaking Bad. Let's be honest - this is a terrible show, right?

I have to assume this is some sort of Internet joke that I'm just not in on - hey everyone, let's all sing the praises of Breaking Bad and lure unsuspecting victims to waste hours of their life watching this nonsense show.

I really can't think of any other plausible explanation. I'm four episodes into Season 3, and I just don't see this show improving markedly such that it would actually be enjoyable. The show meanders along, the characters are not likable, there's way too much Walter White underwear, etc.

I feel like I've already invested so many hours in this garbage that I should just finish the series, but that's just several more hours down the drain. At this point, I'll finish the season and perhaps just read about the rest on wikipedia. 5 minutes of my time on wiki sounds a lot less tortuous than several more seasons of this show.

Yeah same here. However I do have the boxed set and plan on sitting down to watch the whole thing eventually.

So you don't like watching people sitting at a table eating dinner silently for minutes at a time? You sir have high expectations for entertainment. Watch the last couple episodes of season 4 and the final episode. At least those have some decent payoff if you have watched the first three seasons.

Maybe the hype made you expect too much. I think that was my problem. I thought it was good but no where near as good as the internet claimed.

Breaking Bad is the finest serialized drama ever created. It's really today's analogue to Shakespearean drama. I would argue there has been no finer work of art, regardless of medium, created in my lifetime. Unless one simply can't deal with the violence on the show (and I know people like that), I find it hard to understand any person of discernment not enjoying it.

Frankly I would find it hard to respect anyone who would use a world like "sucked" to describe Breaking Bad - it's like saying The Godfather "sucked." Breaking Bad is kind of like Seinfeld in that way - I just know I am not going to get along with anyone who doesn't like it.

This is one of my favourite TV shows of all time. In fact, I'd have to say it's #1.

As for Seinfeld, it was good, but after a while I got sick of it. That is definitely not the case for Breaking Bad.

Note: I went in with expectations it was going to be merely good, but came out thinking it was totally frickin' amazing.

I got to the whole chicken-chain-used-to-distribute drugs part of the series (season 3?) and the mega-cook, and I stopped. That is so idiotic and would get busted within a year. There were WAAAAAYYYYY too many people involved to keep a drug ring operating without getting caught.

As a tv drama about walter white, it's good. But, as a crime drama it is laughably bad. The Wire >>>>>>>>>>> Breaking Bad.

Not sure how me not liking a show and being too lazy to search for some other Breaking Bad thread makes me a bad ass, but umm, thank you I guess.

I'm sure the show appeals to a wide swath of people - it is extremely popular afterall and won all sorts of awards. I just find it terribly uninteresting. The acting is great, but that does not overcome my disinterest in the show. I guess that makes me some sort of pariah, but such is life.

I totally missed the boat on it because I've been too busy to invest in this kind of television these days.

I am going to say that I've seen Cranston do improv before that proved to me he is an amazing actor. He's very quick witted in real life and the fact that he was part of Malcolm in the Middle was probably good because he had steady work, but those years could have been invested in other Cinematic breakthroughs.

What makes Breaking Bad so good is the situational irony of the base storyline. As for the actual execution of the acting and whatever drama pops up past that, I'll have to watch it some day in the future when I've got the time to invest.

Everyone I spoke with said it gets better after the first season and I don't think the first two episodes sucked, they just felt pretty uneven and uninteresting, however the pretty much universal praise for the show led me to buy the set and I will go through it all at some point.

When a dramatic series gets praise from everyone like this, I tend to take notice; comedies less so, since comedy is so subjective.

Same. It's on Netflix, so I watched a couple episodes, but it just never really managed to hook me.

I feel the same way about The Walking Dead and the hype it keeps getting. The first season really blew me away. Amazing. Second season was really meh, so I just stopped watching.
