Agreed on the first count - The Walking Dead has never really been anything more than an ultra-violent soap opera. I have still watched most of it, but quality wise it is a 60th percentile show. I thought the second season of Justified was great, but other than that it has been good, not great. I have only watched the first season of GoT, and it seems good but I am not really a fantasy guy, and unless you are a diehard fan it seems almost impossible to keep track of all the characters and subplots.
The comic isn't much better, despite what people say. I watch because it's filmed here and it's expected. I do like the setting, though I don't like the execution.

Yeah, I just can't get into the Walking Dead--well, I can't be bothered with it. I think I am still some 3 episodes into the most recent season, and that was maybe 2 months ago, last time I watched an episode.

I agree with GoT. For me, it is just very very good entertainment, and it isn't cheap--which is saying something. I don't think it's close to the best that HBO has done: Deadwood, The Wire, Sopranos, even Rome are "better," I think--but none of those are as entertaining as GoT.

I'm not into fantasy stuff either. But I approach GoT as more of a Dynasty/feudal type succession story, which is really what it's about. I am into that sort of stuff, so I appreciate it on those merits.

This. I've always particularly despised most fantasy but that's not what GoT is about.

I think Breaking Bad certainly is one of the best shows of all time.

I don't disagree with people who argue that it is, it definitely could be at this point and most shows are mediocre or suck so there is virtually no danger of Breaking Bad falling off of the "best drama" or "best of all time" lists.

I will say that Breaking Bad didn't start its first season (or two) as the above. It definitely improved greatly as the seasons progressed.

The show definitely had a great finale that properly honored the character development over the previous seasons and ended logically without being groan inducing on any level.

I'd argue that Breaking Bad finale deserves to be in the top two or three spots of any top 10 list of great television series finales if it is not number one.

Even quality shows will not appeal to everyone. Just the way personal tastes are.

But walking dead is just generic drama with zombies. Breaking bad has something that ranks it above generic. Not the best show of all time, but still really good.

I may have watched everything but the last season (note: that being both halves, not just the "final season"), but I don't really understand why people like it that much. I don't think it's bad, but there's way too many lulls in the plot. People tend to come back at comments like that with ad hominem attacks such as, "It shouldn't have to keep you entertained all the time! Go back to your Big Bang Theory!" :| ...or some people like to call it "build up". I'm pretty sure the Great Pyramids, or hell... even Half Life 3 (we're using that instead of Duke Nukem Forever, right?), took less time to "build up".

I do mean to eventually go back and finish the show, but part of the problem is... you kind of know what's going to happen. It was pretty evident after a season or two that things weren't going to turn around, and they'd just end up getting much, much worse. I think that's part of the reason why I say that the show never ends up surprising me.

I think my biggest problem with the show is I see Bryan Cranston, and he's Hal to me. He was so perfect on Malcom In The Middle. I see him on BB and go "how the fuck is the bumbling fool Hal creating Blue Meth!" He's a good actor I just can't get past Hal being this evil genius.

I got around to watching Breaking Bad a few months ago, having never seen any of it. I started slow but quickly got into absolute marathon watching.

I fully understand the hype, it was great. And I'm not even much of a TV guy.

You're right, it's much different - it's generic drama with meth.

Walking Dead is by no means a great show and it often posses me off... just keep coming back for more.

I don't like TV at all but Breaking Bad is one of the very few shining exceptions for me. But of course it is all subjective. If someone can't get to like it, that's fine.

I can't believe more people don't think that season 2 was one of the greatest seasons of any show, IMO it's only narrowly beaten out by the last season. Yeah all the fireworks happen at the end of season 3 and through season 4, but everything was still so raw in season 2 and there was so much going on between Walt and Jesse trying to sell, meeting Saul and Gus and Mike, and then the drama with Jane. Plus the scene where Walt gets a text that Skylar was going into labor while trying to beat to clock to sell their meth was pure awesome. This was where Hank shined too, I loved how his character was in season 2. And Seinfeld is the best sitcom ever, deal with it.

Sanford & Son, Seinfeld would be somewhere top 6 right below Cheers.

And I just went to get the mail and saw 2 hipsters in Heisenberg shirts which made me remember this show is clearly #1 with hipsters. I often forget just how popular it is until I spot a hipster in the shirt lol.

I got to the whole chicken-chain-used-to-distribute drugs part of the series (season 3?) and the mega-cook, and I stopped. That is so idiotic and would get busted within a year. There were WAAAAAYYYYY too many people involved to keep a drug ring operating without getting caught.

As a tv drama about walter white, it's good. But, as a crime drama it is laughably bad. The Wire >>>>>>>>>>> Breaking Bad.

This is the problem you have with it right here. It is not a crime drama. It is a Walter White drama about a guy who risks it all for his family in maybe a really stupid way, but you are routing for him at first, and his steady decline into being a complete and utter trash person you don't feel sorry for and hoping he gets caught.

Yes, the cops are stupid in this show, but I think you went in expecting it to be something it wasn't.

BB isn't my favorite show of all time, but as for quality throughout its run, it is pretty high overall. Most shows either start out really good and get worse, or start out bad and get better. I didn't feel that with BB. And hell, it actually finished. That is not something that happens much these days on TV shows.

Caution spoilers for the finale but, this is pure awesomeness on Bryan Cranstons part and why he is officially my hero. A guy who gets it.

Also a little bit of Hal does come through in Walter's character which makes it pretty awesome as no matter how bad ass he gets, you can still see his roots as a mild manner science teacher that is comically awkward.

Also Sir Anthony Hopkins wrote him a letter raving about how he loved it after he binged watched BB. That's pretty awesome in and of itself.

If OP is serious, I think he missed a season early on and nothing was built-up correctly.

Who the fuck has time to watch TV these days?

Its "OK" IMO. I never really got into it. But I can't help but laugh at the people who say its one of the greatest shows of all time. They have no clue.

I loved the show, but I watch very little television so I don't really have any standards. As a biochem major, I got sick of other chem majors asking me if I've watched it all the time. I thought it actually started about as strong as it would ever get tbh, but the whole thing was pretty consistent. Biggest problem was with the ending of season 2 which ham-fisted the moral of "Bad actions may have even worse consequences" in such an embarrassing way, but having Walt justify it to himself at the beginning of season 3 almost made up for it. :awe:

The lover's spats between Walt and Jesse got kind of annoying as the show went on as well, though.
