I don't think this relationship with Todd is going to work out well for Walt. I think he'll use his previously mentioned prison contacts to help Walt with the 9, but I think he's also going to play a part in Walt's downfall. Teaching him how to cook seems like a bad idea. Clearly he doesn't seem to be any sort of mastermind, but he's also a sociopath who may not feel any real loyalty toward Walt once he learns how to cook for himself.

I try to forgive Walt's shortcomings, but what he did at the end mean the writers are angling him to ultimately go down unsympathetically - Scarface style.

Does anyone know what Mike Erhmantraut did in his previous life, before Gus? Looks like a former cop from Philly or NYC if I had to guess. Just wondering if it was ever divulged in a previous episode where his skillset came from.

They made Mike way too careless in this season, and especially in this episode. Did not like.

I love this show but it needs to go and it's good that it will soon.

Walter White has become too much of a caracature of a typical drug ring operation leader. It's no longer about slowly losing perspective as much as having a completely different perspective and personality, which is so far off from the original foundation that made the show a hit.

The irony that the operation has gotten too dirty for the original thug, Jesse, but not for Walter is cute but predictable and an over the top conflict imo that doesn't do much for me.

Not that I'll sit this season out.

Here is the genius that would have contrived a better story

I think he was rocked after realizing he had to walk away from his granddaughter.

True, but he has gone through his whole career in working in extremely high stress scenarios (aka him taking our the cartel at the distribution plant, taking out Chris in this season). And the fact his life revolves around the necessity of being cautious, it should be completely natural to him (especially with keeping an eye an Walter from his car in the end).

The only train of thought I see that can be applicable is Mike losing his will to live/care anymore. His main motivation was his granddaughter, and in the end, he failed.

He was a Philadelphia cop. We learned that he was a former cop in his monologue about "half measures" in season three, and he told Hank and Gomez that he was a Philadelphia cop when they were interrogating him earlier this season. They referred to his tenure as a cop ending badly, but we don't know specifically what happened.

yes you do, in Half measures he talks about how he was a cop and he was called to a domestic abuse situation, and he let it slide arresting no one and giving warnings "half measures" the dude ended up killing his wife, and mike killed him, which is why he is no longer a cop and is the basis for the no more half measures

You are mistaken. He never said anything about killing the guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3u-6UFLubI

To those who (in obvious hindsight) say they saw this coming, I call bullshit. MAYBE you thought it MIGHT happen, but it really didn't pan out as a viable plot line beforehand.

I was actually pissed at Walt last night. Then my gf reminded me "It's just a show"

ha forgot about that.

anyone thinking todd's gonna take over, slowly - or is walt already factoring that in to the operation?

i'm really hoping that M60 plays out in the next ep. but being a year ahead, it's probably in the series finale.

todd wont take over, todd will end up getting killed IMO by walt, which will cause all hell to break lose, those "prision connection" and those on the outside associated with them will come for walt, which is the reason for his M60

I think Walt is going to scream "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND", and try to fire the m60 and it won't fire. He'll forget to turn off the safety. Then he gets blown away.

Yup, that's how it's gonna end.

I kept saying..dont kill him walt, dont kill him..then the asshat killed him. I was mad about that. I think todd is going to steal the formula or betray walt to the new distributors. If they could get their hands on his formula hes a dead man. I dont think Jesse will kill walt. I doubt Skylar will either its not her MO. I honestly dont know where this is going.

RIP Mike, one of the best secondary characters a show will ever develop. I'm glad he was able to give Walt a piece of his mind about screwing up the good thing they had going though, he was spot on with everything he said. It was a good thing and it ran like a clock, Walt should have known his place and just cooked, and it was his pride/ego that caused him to "blow it all up". Safe to say the German company didn't play as big of a role as I thought they might at the beginning of the season/end of last season, but we'll see, maybe there's more to Lydia then we're being shown.

the more i think about it the more i was genuinely angry with walt after he offed mike. i think i even said something out loud to myself when walt pulled the trigger, even though i saw it coming from a mile away. in my head i was really hoping it would not happen, but you cuold tell with the way they filmed the parts leading up, as well as that scene, that it was going to be something dramatic going down. then when it actually happened, i was like 'wtf walt why you do that?'. probably was also because mike's character is one of the best characters on the show.

That's what I took away from the episode too. There is no way in hell that Mike would agree to Walt delivering the bag and no way in hell that he would turn his back on Walt in that situation. Up until this season every moment in the show has been believable with the sole exception of Gus walking out of the room and straightening his tie. But every characters actions have been completely in character. And for 2 minutes they turn Mike from the smartest guy in the operation to a complete moron just so Walt could whack him/ That was complete bullshit.

while mike is ALWAYS on the ball with everything, ever since that one episode a few episodes back when hank said something along the lines of 'everyone makes mistakes' it seemed like that was foreshadowing something with mike.

and ever since mike went in for his first interrogation, and they brought up his grand daughter, i remember the look on mike's face as he walked out of the interrogation room was a face we had never seen mike show before. it was almost as if that was THE point in the series where his head started to get screwed up and not being as careful about everything.
