Am I the only one who was disappointed with the season opener? It was good episode but I guess I was expecting something with a lot more HOLY (@*$ to start the season.

Na, not alone. Episode was more like 'Breaking Mediocre' but I was hoping for more dialog so I might be jaded. It did answer a lot of questions like Ted and Brock's poisoning and the whole laptop plan was fun, but Mike knows something important about Gus and I wanted him to come out with it in the desert. I guess we have to wait for these pieces to fall into place. Last years first episode was the gold standard.

No need for the spoiler tags... If anyone isn't caught up, and they choose to enter this thread, it's their problem.

I can't believe it didn't occur to me to make any 'fucking magnets, how do they work?' jokes last night. :hmm:

Occurred to me right away once he was celebrating the test run at the junkyard, and not a joke but the junkyard guy mentioned something like "We live in a world of god particles and string theories" only a week or so after the god particle was finally proven to exist, thought that was pretty neat.

One thing I loved about the opening scene (which presumably foreshadows events at the end of the season/series):

It was interesting how Walt seemed to go out of his way to be remembered by the Denny's employees (making "52" with the bacon, saying it was his birthday, showing ID, leaving a $100 bill). Obviously one would expect he would want the opposite, and he's more than smart enough to be careful, so he is either doing it intentionally or is so desperate that he wants to get caught and so he is acting reckless.

It's nice to see Hank finally up and walking around (with assistance of a cane). IMHO he was bed ridden for too long, didn't it last like 2 seasons?

I thought it was great. Like many people I can't stand Walt Jr., I honestly fast forwarded through alot of the Walt Jr. parts in the previous seasons.

Great catch. To be honest I had the volume on a little low at that particular point of the show and I hadn't devoted all my attention, so I didn't notice what he was making with the bacon.

I really want to see what he does with the M60 though.

Keep in mind that his ID was a fake name from New Hampshire.

Another observation... It seems as though his cancer is back, due to the hacking and pill popping.

The 52 is a reference to the pilot episode. Skyler makes Walt breakfast with veggie bacon in the shape of a 50 for his 50th bday. He is given two years to live by his doc.

We did not see the ID, but I imagine it has a fake name. Perhaps he used the services of Saul's "new life" connection for 600K.

Regardless, I do agree that he is being reckless. Perhaps he imagines he is going into a final battle with Jesse/Mike/Hank/Madrigal Electromotive/Whoever, and it doesn't matter anymore.

We know it has a fake name cause the waitress calls him by it.

makes sense to use a fake name when setting up an illigal gun purchase, get other to remember someone who is not really you so you dont have any connection to it. also i would agree that it seems his cancer is back, ive always held the belief that it would come back into play and walt would have to decide if he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory or let cancer take him

i hope the payoff for the M60 machine gun purchase comes through in these 8 episodes, but it's probably going in the 2nd 8 episodes, being over a year off.

Good point, I didn't even catch that.

Well he is the kingpin of breakfast and will be the true winner in the show.

Despite the impressive ratings, "Breaking Bad" isn't the highest-rated show on AMC. That honor still goes to "The Walking Dead," which drew a record 8.99 million viewers.
Wow. I knew it was a hit, but I had no idea it was so huge.
