These were soldiers that volunteered late in the war under a division of the SS, yes, but they were the only division not required to take an oath of loyalty to Hitler.

Wrong.
http://www.historia.lv/alfabets/L/la/latviesu_legions/dokumenti/1943.24.07.krievu.htm

An NKVD report with full archival index (which means you could look it up) indicates that an oath was taken on March 28, 1943 by at least the first formed regiment. I'm listing a Latvian website just for kicks. The report is available elsewhere as well.

None of them were German sympathizers

Wrong. You must be very well aware that the numbers of volunteers in police units far exceeded two Divisions that were assigned to the fighting duty. The rotation between the two was constant, and it were the police units that exhibited extreme brutality and genocide against the civil population in Latvia (jews), Belorussia and Poland.

They fought, simply, to keep Russia the fuck out of Latvia

Half truth. All the operations of the 2 divisions were under the command of the German Headquarters. The official commander was Heinrich Himmler. They did not have their own flag, and fought under the banners of Nazi Germany.

They were officially recognized by the UN and the Allied nations as non-nazi, non German combatants.

Half truth. They were recognized as mobilized through force. hence they got an exception. However, SS organization was found guilty of genocide, and Waffen SS was mentioned specifically. This decision has no statues of limitations. In my mind, Latvian legionaries are active participants of the SS organization.

You know who recognizes S Osetia as an independent today? Russia, N Korea, Venezuala, Nicaragua.

You do know that 95% of S. Ossetia population holds Russian citizenship, right? And that in the latest referendum the majority was willing to be annexed with Russia?

To this day, Putin and Russian apologists claim that the Baltics readily voted themselves into the USSR.

Yep, I totally agree with you on everything you described further on. I already stated that I am no apologist for the annexation of Baltic states. There are certain facts which I don't like getting spinned, but I'll be the first one to admit straight facts as they are.

Chechnya is not an area that I delve deeply into. It's easy for me to chalk it up to yet another Russian invasion into sovereign territory, but I don't make such bold assertions.

How about starting from Catherine the Great and the Caucasian War.

Though the apartment bombings, blamed on Chechen separatists by Putin, and for what Litveninko [sic] was killed. That's what I was thinking.

Now, let's see. A film by Boris Berezovskiy, an oligarch who placed Putin into power, and then Putin went out of control. Yep, total truth. It was all FSB operation all along. Now excuse me, would you like to talk about 9/11 conspiracies?

The director of the EU department responded

And when we ask EU commission about Israel vs Palestine issue...

I assume you aren't living in Russia.

if so....why?

It's easy to answer. I don't like Putin's regime. I don't like where Russia is going, and there's not much that can be done. So, I moved. Feel free to ask more.

Based on my own eyes, my own travels, my own conversations.

You claim to be a Russian.

Where do you live...and why?

I already answered this partially, but I'll do it again. I live in San Jose, CA. I moved about 12 years ago when I realized where things were heading. Things have not improved much since then.

I do actively maintain my connections with friends, and while I have sworn my loyalty to the US, and will defend it, I do actively monitor events in Russia.

The bending of facts typical for representations from a westerner and resident of one of the Baltic states irked me, so I decided to poke around, although normally I do not - don't have time for lengthy forum battles.

Here's a spin: I'm partially Estonian. My father's line is Estonia, I've visited Estonia as a kid, back in the Soviet Union and again just recently, as I happen to work for a Finnish company, and while I was visiting my native St. Pete, I also dropped by Tallinn. The plight of Baltic states is not unfamiliar to me. Yet, I try to look at things from both sides of the coin.

No, they resorted to terrism over occupied territories right away, continue to do so over recoginzed borders...

It's not like that reminds you of anything else Islamic terrorist have been doing is it?

I do like the "taste of their own medicine" is that what the US got on 9/11, kinda sad for the indivudual citisens though?

If insanity was a genetic thing, i'd link Lemon Law to be your father.

You have no clue and talk way too much on issues you don't know SHIT about, stop doing that and we'll be just fine, continue doing that and all you will ever spread is false information.

Did you know that you can be charged with criminal intent from what you wrote?

I'd report your stupid arse every day of the week until you say "my apologies for being exceptionally stupid...
