Yeah, look at the TrailBlazers. Many people thought they had a super star line up, bu they didn't get into the finals. But I gotta say this IS a pretty darn impressive lineup for th elakers though.

huge difference. Pippen wasn't hungry (he'd already won his championships) wallace doesn't have a clue . . .

on the lakers, Payton is hungry, the fact that he's willing to take a mid level exception instead of a Max contract like he could get tells you what his priority is. Malone will probably now sign with the lakers and HE's hungry, Kobe and shaq have already proven they can work together.

comparing them to the blazers is an apples to oranges comparison.

If they get Malone,
Kobe definitely won't be having his 30+ games.

Think about it. Malone would average 20-25, GP would average about 16ish Shaq 30ish

When is Kobe gonna shot ?

if Kobe does ball hog and shoot, when is the rest of the team gonna shoot ?

you cannot compare the lakers with the blazers. the attitudes of each individual players on both teams are completely opposite.

karl will only get 8 to 10 shots a game. payton will also limit himself to 8 - 10 shots a game. Kobe and Shaq will still get the majority of shots.

neither Malone NOR payton are signing with the lakers to pad their stats, they want to win it all and the way to do it is let kobe and shaq score.

malone is there for Rebounding, mid range jump shots when shaq or kobe are doubled and Low post scoring when Shaq isn't in the game. Payton is there to distribute the ball, bring it down court, Serious D, and the occasional open THREE.

It's still Shaq's team with Kobe a close 2nd.

uhhh malone will not average 20-25. his role would be to hit the mid range jumper whenever he's open and D up on the other PFs in the league. he's not the main guy. if he signs, he would knowingly do so on the agreement that he will be a role player. Shaq and Kobe will definately still contribute for 2/3rds of the teams point. kobe will of course not have his streaky nine 40+ point game but i am sure he can still average 25+. shaq will be about the same. with the addition of malone and payton, what we have is now two more consistent player who can average 10+ points easily, which the laker bench were unable to do the previous seasons.

True, but there's still some validity to the general question of whether these two would make the Lakers unbeatable. The 2000 Blazers were better (primarily depth) than the Lakers, but they ultimately choked because they didn't have a go-to guy in the crunch. Even now, Wallace is their only superstar, but he's not somebody you can feel comfortable entrusting the franchise to.

Anyhow, obviously adding Malone & GP would seriously improve this Lakers team. But the question is will it result in 75 regular season victories, and an unblemished 16-0 playoffs run? Or for unforeseen reasons, would this dream team falter and underachieve? Of course, most people would expect something closer to the former. But we won't know until they start playing the games.

I know this is the NBA and baseball is completely different, but nobody expected the Yankees to lose in 2001 or get blown out by the Anaheim Angels last year. Personally, I'll be less interested in watching Malone and GP ride the backs of Shaq and Kobe for easy rings, and I'm a Lakers fan.

nobody expected the angels to win it all, BUT not many people really thought the yankees were that good last season either. they were DEFINITELY beatable.

i believe them (yankees) to be beatable this season also, mb more so than last season.

IMHO i think the lakers take it all again next year, and the year after and the year after, and then shaq retires, and they turn into a first/second round playoff team...

With GP comin in, the lakers are SET. i mean he scores without dominating the ball so much...
he'll get his 10-15 on fast breaks, postin up other pgs (which probably happens like 4-5 times a game) and the occasional open shots (which would be taken by other benchies anyways, only diff is GP would make more)

Karl Malone is what worries me...dunno if he's willing to get moved to the 3rd/4th option...His minutes and shots and etc HAS been decreasing, but this is not going to be some small decrease if he joins...
If he DOES accept it, I know he'll get us about 10pts and 8boards or so...which we could have gotten in PJ Brown....

but who cares?

WE GOT GP~ WE GOT GP~

Some people like BamBam identify with their fav sports franchise a little too much. Notice how many times he used 1st person PLURAL in the above posts. Obsess much?

If the Spurs get J.Kidd and possibly a center/pf to play with Duncan, they can compete with the Lakers next year. It'll be fun to watch this matchup!!

Go Lakers!!
